I used to go to the Half Moon alot in the late 70's early 80's and remember him but after 1984 never really went to the Half Moon.

I saw Tom Robinson there, George Melly and a great blues band '9 Below Zero' I think he played with them from time to time (I may be wrong).

Good luck with you search.

Soundcheck Magazine from January, 2002 states:

OK! Steve Smith, the indefatigable front man harmonicist/vocalist and fun filled South London legend, retreated to his Scottish Highlands abode....and mentions taking 15 hours to come back to Londonfor a Gig with his Group=Ruthless Blues.

I, also used to see SS with Rod Roche and others at The Half Moon and used to see Nine Below Zero, regularly, at various Venues in The Old Kent Road with Dennis Greaves, from Walworth, as their lead guitarist.

Before 9BelowZero he was the Leader of "Stans Blues Band" who played various South London Venues including te lamented "Apples and Pears" Pub in Rotherhithe where he played in the street on an extended lead!

Great Days..

No Eliza.

Used to see "Airship"// "Sprinkler" // "Laurie and Co. a.k.a. "Blunderbuss" who had a Residency every Fri/Sat/Sun for many years at The Thomas A'Beckett Pub, all in The Old Kent Road.

Also used to see Stevie Smith in The Late Steve Waller's Band at various South London Venues and regularly saw "The Foster Brothers" as well...Good Era for Pub Bands.

Hi, did any of you guys ever go to the old Brockwell Park Tavern when the publicans were an old plump guy and an even older thinnish landlady? questions, questions....also, did any of you ever go to the crystal palace park bowl and see such likes as melanie, dylan, did anyone get soaked one time and had to sit in black bin bags? Oh the joy of reminiscing.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
