but I'm sure if you look around you will find others. The arcade model has the benefit of being a newer revision hardware with a much better reliability

the extra 120GB of the elite will only be useful if you download a LOT of films and install a LOT of games at the same time

I don't have one, preferring older games, but the thought of playing the HD remix of SF2 and VF5 online are very tempting, but those red rings of death are what keeps me from accepting one.

I just picked up a brand spanking new Elite specifically for the release of Resi 5. If you go through Littlewoods Direct you can pick it up for 160quid(with an online voucher). The matt black finish looks pretty classy too and the oft reported noisy drive has been toned down to a dull roar now. Try it, you might like it.

Its a great entertainment platform but the hardware is unreliable, everybody I know who have had one for a couple of years have suffered the red ring of doom! I'm not saying I don't rate it because I do but Microdross have shot themselves in the foot. it may deter people from buying their next gen console I will certainly think twice about it.

I've a very early model non elite. Had one RRoD, but it's been absolutely fine since.

The main reason for the elite would have to be the improved noise, reminds me of concorde at times ;)

Surely most issues would be more or less ironed out in new models non?

Pretty much every xbox owner i know has had a RRoD, but only one more than once. Mine must be getting on for 4 years old now, still working fine, not bad for any piece of complex consumer electronics frankly.

Yeah it's noisy, but it's not terrible if you're playing a game with your surround sound on, but it's pretty useless as a dvd player. Elite is supposed to be quieter.

I've been thinking of getting one too. Wii is fun's but want to play some more epic RPGs, and xbox seems to be more the way to go.
