North Dulwich is not quite as cultured as West Dulwich (clearly), it is virtually Herne Hill which protects us from Brixton, so I suppose that it does merit a strong police presence afterall. But I wonder if at least 9 of those police officers would have been better deployed on the number 3 bus, where parents openly drink Carlsberg export from cans on the school run?

I think it's just the name of the station rather than an actual area... but people often describe an area by the name of the closest station (at least they do in London). I don't think there's any snobbery at play.

Bellenden Village, on the other hand, is basically just estate agent language for Peckham.

When I worked for Lewisham Council prospective Council Tenants were directed to North Lewisham, which I understood to be, Deptford!

Cab Drivers would rarely want to venture "South" of the River back in the day (not sure about now) and when I did some Mini-Cabbing no-one ever said "take me to Brixton" though I had plenty of fares requesting "S.W.2"..

I used to work for Pizza hut in Forest hill and I'd usually have an air pistol in my pocket but never used it. I was attached to the Lewisham branch who delivered to the 'jack move' areas of Deptford, Rotherhithe and Bermondsey and I had to refill the magazine several time. I'm not joking!

I can't believe I'm getting into this discussion but hey - isn't West Kensington W14 and Shepherd's Bush W12 and aren't they next door to one another?

Also, I thought North Dulwich was the same as Dulwich Village, or am I talking through my hat? What do I know, I'm just a Peckhamite...

I've said b4 Wolfie.

The A.A. Man patrolling The Brixton Area arrived with an axe back in 1988 (?) !!

Moos, please don't take this the wrong way but please leave a serious, thoughtful and considered discussion to those better equiiped mentally on EDF.

North Dulwich Station lies South-South West of East Dulwich Station and West Dulwich Station lies almost due South of North Dulwich Station.

If the neighbourhoods were going to be named by their station and the stations in turn by their positions North Dulwich would just be Dulwich or Dulwich central, West Dulwich would be South Dulwich and East Dulwich would be North Dulwich or possibly North-and-East-a-little-bit Dulwich.

    • A lot to agree with here - don’t get me started on Irish people complaining about immigration! - but that final paragraph is once again a cop out  there’s a lot of extreme right wing money stirring up the division that people are feeling - but there is zero excuse for handing power to these people. We live in a democracy and if we have enough people willing to give it up then judging those people foolish enough to do so is not only something that will happen, it is something that the rest of us should be morally compelled to do  if someone wouldn’t “normally” vote for a racist party yet somehow will do so because they hear someone like me saying that would be bad, then you better believe I’m judging them

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
