West Norwood - a lost afternoon

I wrote little thing about West Norwood, past and present, that may be of interest to some of you.

I'm ashamed to say that it's full of swearing, sex and drug references. They keep asking me to desist, but I can't, they're my favourite things.

An Australian friend of mine used to have The Hope in WN, a little Young's pub. Was quite nice back then, but I believe it's gone to shit now.

Saw Star Wars at West Norwood Library in '77 on a primary school trip, moved out of there to ED in '80 due to heroin needles being left in the green outside our house, dad made the right choice. I bet West Norwood has changed a bit, used to drink at The Rosendale in the mid-late 90s when it was a rowdy boozer (the best kind).

My parents moved to West Norwood in '76. I hated it. When we moved there my dad and I did a pub crawl. Jack Stamps was then the Thurlow Arms. I saw Wreckless Eric do a cracking gig there in 1980. The Hope I have to say was probably the only decent boozer around in those days, though The Horns was ok ish. The rest of 'em were all hell holes. As soon as I could afford to leave home and move back to Dulwich I did.

I see him as an alcoholic, dysfunctional, abusive, six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall invisible rabbit.

I think I met him in Margate. He's not that tall a rabbit, he had on a natty shirt and was complaining that the Deserter nicks all his jokes
