I know excatly what you mean :)-D

stupid abbreviations annoy me ..... Mayo instead of Mayonaise ,and the use of ( sorry Cassius ) Air Con instead of Air Conditioning

and the use of the word Customers instead of Passengers

Also use of the word "Customer" in situations when you're not actually buying anything , I think the dole office have started using it , feckin idiots.

oh there was something else too .... can't remember it might come back to me in a minute .

The use of emoticons.

There are people I have repect for who use them, but are they not really just the devil's puntuation?

And not even the good devil implied in Rosemary's Baby, more like the shit one in To The Devil A Daughter.

If something is written and it's amusing, then we'll get it. If it's tongue in cheek, we might not. If it's obscure/esoteric/in-jokey then many may not get it.

Aaaand. Next post!

Why have something more irritating than canned laughter on a comedy, littering up perfectly good, or for that matter imperfect or lousy posts.

Let them stand or fall by their own merits. I know the pro arguement, that they can soften what might appear in the naked written word as sarcastic, rude offensive etc, that in a face to face interaction would be leavened by body language and greater explanation.

So this is a written medium, but through the written word we can to some extent form opinions about people, I've done so on other MBs, gone on to meet them and became friends with them.

Even some who use bastard emiticons.

I'm not sure I constantly take the piss, out of whom?

But why does anyone need to include cartoons in their sensibleish comment, personal insults and light hearted irony?

Eeerm, you twat.

You take the p1ss not out of individuals in a general and lighthearted sense...

I started using emocions after I litterally posted something like

"It's ridiculous to think that poeple have characteristics based on their nationality...apart from the French who are all ****"....and people thought I wasn't being serious ;-)

And worse, people who include PhD in their email address field, as part of their name.

Americans are the worst culprits.

But aren't they always :-S

A thing that gets on my tits are people who think they are not littering as they have put their rubbish on top of a post box or cabinet in the street. Where do you think its going to go?

Actually while we're at it, another pet hate is people who put water into an empty bottle of washing liquid or soap to make it last longer. FFS

    • Some of you may remember Patrick Kelly who I recently found out died a couple of years ago.  He was a ward Councillor in the 90s and 00s. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/oct/31/patrick-kelly-obituary I knew him outside of politics. https://x.com/SouthwarkLabour/status/1760382926846357657 https://patrickjkelly.muchloved.com/
    • Have you read Scouting for Boys by Baden Powell?  Racist and full of right-wing ideology; the movement has a historical association with colonialism and authoritarian regimes. Whilst you can say it was of its time, the Scouting movement has fortunately long since moved on,
    • There have always been union flags displayed all over the city (e.g. regents street, oxford street, the mall etc). They're done properly, placed appropriately, and well maintained. No one has a problem with genuine displays of patriotism. Spray painting roundabouts and hanging cheap flags from motorway bridges in response to a campaign organised by well known right wing extremists is not about patriotism and I don't think anyone really believes it is. What exactly are these concerns around immigration? They seem to be largely based on the idea that immigration is costing the economy (it actually boosts public finances and contributes to economic growth) and fears of crime (again there is no evidence that immigrants are more likely to commit crime, in fact research suggest that those born in the UK are). It's also worth noting that immigration has actually been falling. Largely, this comes down to xenophobia and racism, fed by misinformation from the usual suspects - for example the 'Centre for Migration Control' (which is actually just one person, the Reform UK activist Robert Bates), and which regularly seeds fake / made up statistics to GB News etc. which then get repeated by the Telegraph etc. It blows my mind that people like Farage, who's Brexit actually did significantly damage our economy and led to a massive rise in irregular migration, is still being given the time of day.
    • I miss the good old days where guides and scouts saluted the flag at the start of a meeting, old soldiers proudly ran a flag up every morning and it was seen as a symbol of pride, not division  What has happened to the world?
