I prefer Haddock too.. if it's cooked well.

To answer the question, The Sea Cow consistently cooks the fish the best, but the chips are those 'posh chips' which I consider to be 'not proper'. The best chips can be bought at 'The Walstead Fryer', but the 260 mile round trip might put you off, and it's possible your fish (from The Sea Cow) may be cold by the time you get back.

Thanks Bob, but I'm sure someone here posted about a place where you could get great fish AND chips IN East Dulwich.

I have not read the thread fully, but with all due respK , your C&P isnt correct - Im not a predant, but I know my fish a bit

Haddock are not young cod, yes, that are part of the Gadd ( not Paul Gadd ) clan but distinct from cods in both appearence & form the consumer, in flesh texture

Dont eat Cods

Indeed, and I apologise for the oversight. As mentioned I looked it up, and was parlously misinformed on the Haddock subject.

It seems Haddock are of the Melanogrammus genus, but as Snorks observes, they are with Gadidae.

I shall explore this conflicting information further.

Moire to the point....

I just watched Soylent Green! What a frickin' coincidence. Turner Classic Movies, today of all days!

Glad you made the right chioce Pilsbury, the sea cow is brilliant. The Coley is cheaper (if I remember correctly) and nicer than the cod. And Yes, we should all eat no more cod, especially when there are such tasty other fishes about...

welcome to the area, enjoy the fish & Chips!

Sema's on Underhill Road are the best! Went there last night and had some really fresh fish. One portion of their scrummy chips is enough for two. Friendly people too. Have never been to the Sea Cow as I couldn't justify it when Sema's is so good and at a snip of the price. Could the thread starter go to Sema's and write a comparison?
Yes, Ken's is the best - before Ken's, we always went to Sema who do lovely fish and chips and are very obliging. Ken's is just that bit better, simply the best. I don't know why I'm saying this, as there will be a long queue next time I go!! Don't bother with the over-priced places. The quality and content don't justify the price. They need to up their game!

    • Yiddish is written in Hebrew script, traditionally, so any attempt to use 'Roman' script will be transliteration, as noted. Hebrew script does not have vowels as such, so any vowels used will try to copy the Yiddish sound of the word. Bagel and Beigel are both correct transliterations of the Yiddish word.
    • Have they still not fixed it? that's pretty shabby. I took this picture on New Year's Day and it's been like this at least since before Xmas.
    • To be fair, if I saw you eating any of the parcels I'd have walked out. I noticed last night that the illuminated sign now describes this place as the POT OFFICE. Presumably THC vapes are more profitable than being a drop-off point for bloody Evri
    • Housebuilding isn't that profitable and housebuilders don't have social responsibilities. The affordable housing component is just a tax on new builds. It's a total failure by government - a fantasy belief that the private sector is going to solve the state's social housing crisis for free. It's like expecting Tesco to solve child humgrr by giving away a percentage of its products. It's not gonna work - it just slows down and disincentivises private sector construction of new housing. The only solution to the housing crisis is a massive increase in the supply of housing, not a couple of "affordable" flats in a new development. The state needs to solve the problem of NIMBYs (one of whom is prominent on this thread), get out of the way of private sector developers building private rentals and homes for sale, and borrow to build a huge amount of social housing.
