Euro zone is looking a little tricky this year for carriers of the pound. Cuba great, but you want more than eight days; at least 11-12 to justify those long flights, preferably 18-21.

If Greece takes your fancy, why not try SW Turkey (Emerald Coast)? You actually sail past it - almost close enough to touch - on the boat from Rhodes to Symi etc. Cheaper than euro zone, lots of lovely hiking, cycling, beaches, diving, historic thingumies, excellent weather etc., and not too far to fly for a week's holiday. There are some old Greek settlements - abandoned - in the area.

Start with a few days in Leysdown and for a complete change of mood and scenery I would suggest trying a few days in Mrs Shepherd's Bed and Breakfast Establishment in Clacton, which I last visited with my Parents in 1964.

Hopefully the cobwebs and kettle lying on the stairs will have gone over the last 45 years.

Let me know if you want further details.

I understand there are still a few seasonal vacancies, if you are quick.

I couldn't escape from the place when I stayed the week in a caravan with my Late Mum and Dog 15 years ago!

The only thing I get is Gout, once/twice a year which makes it hard to walk until I take my Naproxen Tablets which remedy the problem in 2 hours. My Mum was in her 70's and the Dog could not be left in the caravan on her own so all 3 of us held in each other up for support while we hobbled to the Town Centre so I could get some ruddy tablets so that I could drive home and away from there!:))

If you?re looking at England the North Norfolk coast is worth a look. Choose somewhere between Sheringham and Brancaster. Take a stop at Holkham beach. If you?re into films, you could walk over Stiffkey Marsh and take in the place where the ?Get some? scene from Full Metal Jacket was filmed.

Oh did you now. Can I recommend parking your caravan outside the Dungeness power station on your next jaunt to the coast or perhaps the M25 for real atmosphere, preferably in the fast lane. With Sean for company.

daizie your post makes you out to be such a snob! But I absolutely know what you mean. Having worked in construction industry I all too well am aware they all bomb down in their souped up 4x4s of a Friday a'tanoon down to their caravans in Leysdown, Fannet*, and Hernia Bay, and it's all so awful. The richer ones are buying up bits of seaside real estate in Romania so at least they're out the country....

*Isle of Thanet don't you know.

    • Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich. Please have a read and please consider subscribing. Did I mention you can subscribe for free?   https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/  *It would have been 46 but one review didn't run because the meal was so disappointing. I try not to be negative. To paraphrase Boyzone (or is it Westlife?) I said it best by saying nothing at all.
    • I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem. We have booked him again to put in a new bath for us now too as we were so happy with this work.    Lovely fella - thoroughly recommend using! Andy's number is 07983 688 451
    • If you're looking for a reasonably priced gym, there are a couple of PureGyms not too far away in Camberwell and Peckham. They're less than £20 a month with no joining fee. If you're looking to get fitter and / or lose weight, and you don't have any mobility issues, then download the coach to 5k app and start running. It's by far the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to improve your cardiovascular fitness and it's great for clearing your head!
