From my banishment, to gastropubs, the demise and resurrection of the Midland Bank and its various logos. What next? Hang on, I'll sort it for everyone. Hu-Hum........ Yummy mummy, Iceland, prams, gentrification, cheese on toast (pizza), blow-in, working class, ghosts. There we go. As you were.

Isn't this just so stupid?

You participate on a thread in the main section, then go to The Lounge and find that Louisa has started a 'Lounge Response' thread. So do you start the discussion again in the Lounge? Transfer your posts backwards & forwards?

Ridiculous. What is the point of having two threads with the same topic? If Louisa has something to say, she should be able to say it wherever she chooses. And if it's the general section & they can't cope with a difference of opinion, they are the ones with a problem.

Sorry AqM, I just had to respond I should have said its just my take on things and continue as you were in the main section. The minute I say anything these days people assume I'm on some wind up mission. It's disconcerting. I do genuinely believe that the community is for everyone whether that be ED, Peckham, Chelsea or Cannock Chase. Why should Peckham only be for some sections of the community and ed for others.

Let's not get this thread off topic too though. I apologise for taking things into the lounge.

Louisa.

Don't apologise Louisa. You're not at fault.

All I'm saying is that you shouldn't be forced into starting new threads in The Lounge because you can't participate in the general section. I rarely post there either but get the occasional urge. And if you get the occasional urge, you should be allowed to do it.

I had a read of the site. I always like to read computershorty's stuff.

There is a lot on non-ED stuff on there. Or haven't you looked at the site yet?

More ignorance compounded.

WHY ? WHY ? Why was my new post moved to the lounge ? I Was born in East Dulwich in the early 1950s, lived in a Prefab in Underhill Road, East Dulwich in the 1950s/60s, went to Heber Road School in East Dulwich, worked for Southwark Council pruning the trees in East Dulwich in the late 1960s & 1970s, got married and had two children in East Dulwich in the 1970s, my Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, were all born, lived & worked in East Dulwich and last of all my website is not just about Camberwell, there is a lot of memories/photos relating to East Dulwich which I thought might be of interest, seems not, In future I will not bother to inform the East Dulwich Forum of any new Material, Memories or Photos relating to East Dulwich if it is going to be moved to the lounge or is of no interest

JOHNNYBOY please keep posting up on here your website is extremely interesting to me and many other old school residents of ED. Without people like you sharing your memories, this forum would be a very dull place. Seems strange that anything mentioning 'new' stuff for 'new' residents is kept safe and sound in the main section, and yet as old timer ED residents all our stuff gets moved to the lounge. Clearly we aren't that important anymore. Sickening isn't it?

    • Who was Diana Rayworth, when 'resting from acting'. Her successful career was very sadly cut short following a devastating accident.
    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
