I'm just making the point that if you charge as much as a michelin starred restaurant at least serve decent food. It doesn't have to be michelin starred quality, just well cooked, well thought out, basic stuff that any good gastropub would provide. And why should you have to pay more because they are on your doorstep? The rents in ED are nowhere near as high as the rents in central london. Alternatively, go up to Joanna's in Crystal Palace - always great and you never feel ripped off. Or the Rosendale who have slashed their prices and you still get a really classy meal.
I quiet agree Asset. . . There are 3 or 4 recent contributors to this thread who should be totally ashamed of the borish 'one up manship' rants. How they have the time and headspace, god only knows ! I bet they haven't got the balls either to go and speak to the manager direct and are spineless nerdish buffoons who can only limply tap away on the computer all day . Very very sad !

Honest I posted this earlier, but I suppose it got lost in the lounging somehow. But I meant it then and I mean it now.

I really like the Palmerston - the food has always been good, the service friendly and the price is reasonable for a good quality meal. We have been going there periodically for over 4 years and in that time I have never had a bad meal or left feeling disappointed.


We cannot all like the same things, and what an awful place this world would be if we did, and so if you don't like the Palmerston then don't go there - at least it will mean that those who do like it will be able to get a table!

Do you know what? I can't understand the criticism... If wasn't any good, so why The Palmerston is always (and I mean it) always fully booked? I've tried to get a table in there couple of times without booking in advance, not sucessfully though. Then they advised me to call and reserve the table previously. Great, no problems since then... Comfort food, great staff and nice atmosphere. I am a regular. What else can you ask for? Come on folks, lets pay the price of quality. Agreed TJ.

    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic. 
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really? 
    • No party is willing to tackle the "elephant in the room" which is the national debt. It is costing the country circa £100 Billion ANNUALLY to service that debt. That is more than the defence and education budgets. That debt burden has to be reduced which in reality means cost cuts. That means cutting back state pensions, index-linked pensions for civil servants and others such as police, NHS etc. It means cutting back on universal credit and cutting the number of people who are claiming benefits.
