barty
I've been a member of a few forums over the years. For those of you who are a member of a few different ones, how does this one differ from others you're part of? What are its good points and its bad points? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6781-sooowhat-can-a-newby-expect/ Share on other sites

Marmora Man
Barty, you can expect to be amused, engaged, annoyed, frustrated, titillated, buy some stuff, sell some stuff, find a handyman, find a soul mate, meet some people for drinks, curry, runs, over a book club or a book swap, locate that elusive "thing", service, record, song name, song lyric, piece of poetry by seeking an answer from the collective wisdom of the forum.Political views range from well to the right of centre to well to the left of centre - the normal distribution is a little skewed to the left - don't try to defend Thatcherism! You must have an opinion on buggies (passionately for or passionately against - no middle ground allowed). Other passionate subjects:W Rose - either a rip off for snobs or a fantastic butcher.Chandelier - dittoLuca's - dittoEast Dulwich Deli - dittoCrime - it's either all their parents fault and both yoof and parents should be locked up or hung, or it's all society's fault and we should hug a hoodie today. louisiana
Dear Marmora Man, meat is hung while people are hanged. Or do you think ED residents are a bunch of piggies? :)(Removes pedant's cap and leaps into slurry pit.) Keef
It's much more lively than any local forum I've seen. It has good points, and bad points, but my good points will be other's bad, which I guess is why it's so popular. barty
Ahhhh, now we're talking.First some spilling of beans....I am not from East Dulwich.......before the collective huffing and turning up of noses, I lived in Forest Hill and now in Sydenham, so I'm not a total stranger to the locality, it's not like I live in Edinburgh or something. What you can expect from me is a little sarcasm, a little information, a passionate defence of QPR FC and the nation's railway system, an opinion on a range of wildly different subjects, a liberal sprinking of typo's (there being a vast difference between typing errors and spelling errors), and a fairly good game of chess if anyone wants to take me up on that!I can't get into politics until we have a political system that accurately reflects the number of people who vote for each party - how can the party in power have 55% of the seats on 35% of the vote?Buggies.....jury's out on that one.Cyclists.....tax em or shoot em. louisiana
Bart, the natives on EDF are generally friendly, and the moderation is light touch. I'm a member of other forums where the complete lack of moderation has almost led to forum self destruction as a few individuals attempted to conduct virtual WW3 and many others left in despair. barty
Pedants.........to me it is more important to get my point across quickly than to get it across accurately!!! In the rush to spill the contents of my brain out onto the forum, speed is of the essence! bigbadwolf
Right you lot, I essentially invited Barty to this neck of the woods so stand aside whilst I make all the introductions.Seanmacgabhan is the all round good guy but sometimes bites.Mockney piers is the forums prince among men.David Carnell is a gentleman and a scholar.Marmora Man is an ex-nuclear submarine captain (swiftsure class) aka Uncle Albert.Tony.London suburbs likes to think he's the south London old guard but we also call him Tony.Tonbridge wells. Louisa is our little agitator but as much as we like to shout her down we also love her to bits, even *Bob*.*Bob* is our consistently impressive comedian.Ted Max is *Bobs* nemesis/counterpart but doesn't wear quite as much Box fresh.Moos is our stand up with a heart.Mic Mack and ???? are the forum gamblers and tipsters.Peckham Rose is our own Shakespeareess. She's also a biker.HonaloochieB once kissed Ian Hunters hand.Dulwichmum is convellessing but she'll be back soon. You may fall for her as so many have before. She's our PR mogul/show off/snob. Don't look her in the eye!Brendan is our eccentric Saffa.Keef is our musician and pot head.Jah Lush has had a tab at just about every pub in south London past and present. He likes a drop.Jeremy isn't afraid of anyone.Huguenot isn't in the country.KalamityKel does a lot of text speak.Admin is our eye in the sky. He sends his regards by the way.Woofmarkthedog is our mutt.Michael Paleagolus is our ruby expert.Tillietrotter is our Kiera Knightley and nobody says any different O.K!Georgia is our social butterfly.I'm me.We're an odd bunch that like to squabble and bitch at each other but generally get along but most of all we like to make each other laugh.I'll only say this once.Welcome aboard.
