NatWest fraud dept called me to say that the police have advised them that my card has been compromised...they then checked all transactions which were fine. All they would say that it may have happened at a cash point (apparently the card reading devices are very sophisticated now and you wouldn't be aware of one on the machine!)OR I may have used my card at a store where a member of staff may have taken down my card details.....This is ALL they could tell me, as anymore may compromise the police investigation.

Anyone else had a call like this? Note I called NatWest back on telephone number known to me just to be certain I was speaking with the bank!!

I rarely use this card in shops but always use this card to draw cash out at Sainsburys East Dulwich.........

Cash machines and Chip and Pin devices have been suffering with "technical" issues of late... As long as you keep an eye on your accounts and notify you bank etc as soon as possible of any strange goings on in your account there isn't too much to worry about

I know that the police are not able to access my bank details without warrant.

I am assuming that someone has been arrested and my card details have been found with them........hence compromising police investigation.

Do you think by "compromised" they mean cloned because I have the card.......curiouser and curiouser......

I've just had a call from my bank last Friday saying that they have refused a transaction and when I looked at my account there was another transaction I hadn't made either. Both totalled to around ?350. I don't tend to use Sainsburys cash machines, however I have used one in the last 2 weeks.

They are refunding the transaction that went through and said they will investigate this.

It could be one of a number of things - individual arrested/property searched/goods seized and your card details amongst them - in an e-mail, on a bit of paper, on a clone, or could be failed transactions detected as fraud by a retailer.

'Compromised' just means security has been breached in some way i.e. your private info is in the hands of someone who shouldn't have it.

Compromised can also mean that you have used your card in a place where there has been a victim of fraud - you may not be but you might if you see what I mean. My card was deleted by the bank a while back because I'ld used it in a machine that had been compromised. Didn't affect me but it's a precaution. Doesn't necessarily mean someone has your details.

hmmm, not sure about that... my fiance's bag was pinched one night, and the crooks managed to withdraw cash from four different cards. it took nearly four months for those holding out to pay it back.

not a pleasant experience.

    • Another very strong recommendation for Oddbods. They were extremely responsive, very clear with quotes, suggestions and ideas, willing to work within my budget where possible and very swift and polite once working in my flat. I had various sets of floating shelves installed (including them fixing up a half-finished, slightly failed home diy attempt from us), a rotten cupboard shelf replaced and new set of hinges installed on a cupboard door. We're really pleased with their work, it looks great. They suggested a few little extra details on the work, which were so appreciated and made everything look even neater.   Easily, the best handypeople I've ever worked with. Strongly recommended.
