Bringing donations for Calais to mine on Sat? PLEASE DO CHECK REVISED list at end of thread!

I'd be very happy to donate and help in any other way needed transport etc. Does anyone know of anything more local than Brighton being set up as I'd really like to do more if possible but haven't found anything that close. Thanks!

Hello all, I'm back from hols and just realised that my inbox was full so I couldn't get messages, so sorry.

EDAus that's brilliant you clarified what they don't need and what they really do need. While I was away a good friend of mine was in contact with the charity on our behalf and has agreed to be the drop off point for South East London, she's in Forest Hill. I'm going to message her now and find out how she'd like to co-ordinate getting people's donations and will post back on here shortly

Anna, Calaid is operating a drop off on 6th Sept in Dalston for sleeping bags and tents. I'm hoping to arrange a local drop off point closer to us before then, but I'll be I and out of town for the next 2 weeks. Calaid will have rolling collections though. I'm planning to set up a SE London person to person Calais support group on FB so we canal coordinate, because there are lots of people doing things and we'll all be more efficient if we know who' sodding what. No need to reinvent the wheel if someone's already doing something!

Some people are dropping off donations of consumables at my house in SE4 until we know where else to amass them. I'll ask a few local cafes and churches if they could be drop points.

Hellosailor thanks for working on this more! Let us know when you can how your friend would like to get donations. I can take what I've accumulated to her.

Thank you so much for everyone who replied, sorry my inbox became full when I was on holiday.

The next London donations drop is in Dalston on Sunday 6th September.

My friend and I are planning to take everyone's donations there. We've had about 60 responses now and they're still coming which is amazing, but it does mean that it isn't feasible for me to arrange separate drop offs at my house with everyone individually, so sorry about that.

Can I ask that drop offs are made to my house which is 147 Upland Rd SE22 0DF either this Saturday 29th between 9:00am - 12:00 noon or Saturday 5th between 9:00am - 12:00 noon? Then we will take them to Dalston, hiring a van if necessary depending on how much is dropped off, on Sunday 6th. The donations will then be distributed in the refugee camp by the charity.

Please remember that EDAus who contributed to this thread has been in contact with the charity in the last week and they said they have been overwhelmed with women's and children's clothes and are not currently taking donations of those.

SO CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING KIDS OR WOMEN'S CLOTHES, BUT STILL VERY MUCH NEED BOYS AGED 13+ UPWARDS TO MEN'S plus the other items listed below.

They're still desperately seeking:

Boys13+ & men's winter shoes anc clothes (leather trainers, warm clothes, warm waterproof coats.

Sleeping bags, tents and blankets

Toys and games, Craft stuff

Balls

Kites

Books including phonic books

Food (tinned and dry goods no pork)

Hygiene products & sanitary wear

Thank you, Gracie

xx

Hi there. I hope you don't mind my butting in, but in case it's helpful, I just wanted to let everyone know that it looks like the requirements have been updated- you can see the updated need/do not need list of Calaid's Facebook page- and attached to this message.

They don't seem to be taking toys anymore (or food- but surely that can't be right?!), and have updated requirements for other things. Anything they don't need, won't go to Calais, so worth double checking.

Thanks Jojoneedham that's very useful. It's tricky cos they alter the required items on an almost daily basis at the mo, I guess as more stuff arrives at the donation centre.

If you're kindly bringing donations to my house on Saturday morning, then please check the REVISED list of what they're accepting and what they don't need which the Calaid charity have just updated today. It's in the attachment that Jojoneedham has put in her post just above this.

If you've already come round to mine and donated stuff which they're now not currently accepting, i.e. nappies and wipes etc, are you happy for me to donate them to a women's refuge or what would you like me to do with those items if they don't accept them? Luckily most of the stuff you've already dropped off is still the stuff they're accepting.

I've just posted on another thread. Would there be anyone interested in helping with local fund raising events with me?? Never done anything like it before but from the looks of the number of posters on this thread there is enough people interested in helping to make it a worthwhile idea??

Hi - I would be willing to help. There is a local fundraiser by DHFC, maybe a good idea to offer help there, too?

    • Ha ha, some people really don't like an opinion that differs to theirs do they! Bravo One Dulwich - you're magnificently rattling the cages of people who don't want to hear a differing opinion and the fact they get so irate about it is the icing on the cake! Some spend so much emotional energy trying to convince themselves One Dulwich is some shadowy, agitator state-funded lobby group when all they are is a group of local residents giving a voice to the majority of residents impacted by the measures.
    • @Earl, Be assured, it is purely a local group. In fact it is a genteel group of Dulwich area residents, mostly ladies , who are a little  reluctant to publish their individual names as they do not wish to be targets for hostility from internet trolls. Local residents who attended the anti-LTN gatherings in Dulwich would have easily recognised the active members of the group. Should you have any queries about funding, it is quite easy to send them an email.
    • Hi  I have a spare old wheelbarrow that you could have for free. You’d need to come and collect it from Telegraph Hill, so drop me a message if you’re still looking and we can arrange a time best wishes carrie
    • This is quite a serious allegation. What evidence is there of this? Pressured how and by whom? This is quite a spin on ‘it’s been agreed with the emergency services’. They think the vehicles pictured driving through with partially covered plates are the result of ‘poor signage’ 🤔  If it is as they say ‘small numbers’ driving through the square, that doesn’t suggest that the signage is unclear. I mean who honestly believes it’s possible to drive through there without noticing the signs / planters (assuming you’re driving with due care and attention)?! 🤨  Also, haven’t ‘One’ opposed any improvements to the layout / landscaping and signage proposed by Southwark? It’s all a bit desperate. At the height of the LTN ‘controversy’ a number of co-ordinated ‘One’ groups popped up across London. It doesn’t feel like a local grassroots movement, but has all the hallmarks of astroturfing. The lack of transparency about it’s funding / sponsorship and structure does not help with this impression.
