Blame it on the last ice age - that's when the geology was formed, apparently.

Not really - the ice stopped at the terminal moraine (a sort of ridge pushed forward by the snout of the ice sheet) in Finchley. It never got south of that point. Diverted the Thames to its present location, though - before that it probably reached the sea somewhere near Maldon in Essex.

I was going to say to the OP that she'll be e pensioner before anything happens. But you've said it in another way.

But I do admire her pluck. Go for it Nikki!

Well played nikki, lets make this happen.

Like with many obstacles they can be overcome if the will power is there. The benefits for Camberwell and ED would be significant including house prices.

Can't belive peopple have stood by for so long and not made this a real issue, its about time in London we stood up for something close to home!

I cant believe that with all the tunnelling experience we have in this country (The Underground itself, the Channel, Tom, Dick & Harry) we can't build a tunnel between the Elephant and Camberwell Green and possibly beyond. I did say in a previous post that if you look at a map the next logical stop is Denmark Hill, then North Dulwich, Sydenham Hill (South Dulwich) and then Crystal Palace to join up with the new East London Line extension. We need SMB to get this through.

    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. The Southwark News has a summary of the awful day. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/donnell-rhule-dulwich-knife-murderer-cousins-sentenced-to-life-for-killing-18-year-old/    2) Last week, a female prison officer from Forest Hill was sentenced to eight months in prison for pursuing a relationship with one of the two murderers while at HMP Brixton. https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/15/probation-officer-admits-relationship-prisoner-hmp-belmarsh-25501445/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38203627/probation-officer-jailed-illicit-relationship-murderer-secure-prison/
    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
    • She's responded, but I'm sure I read something in the Guardian consumer advice column. Might be some pointers if you're stuck
    • Two for Ratcliffe, the obvious one:   And one simply because it has the word  "You are nothing but blind fascists" in it.  Oh and a good song too.   Haven't listened to this for years.  Bloody good!
