esme
i received a letter from a conservative mp last year who was campaigning for a safe crossing and changes to the traffic lights at the junction of dulwich common and lordship lane but have heard nothing about this since - having written to london transport several times only to be told that they won't change the traffic lights as it would slow down the trafficand that they did not see it as a problem having checked the number of fatalities at this junction(!) i would love someone to look into this issue again.basically the point is that the traffic can CONSTANTLY turn left into dulwich common, there is no break for pedestrians to cross the road so it is a question of running across as fast as possible which is extremely dangerous - especially considering there is a blind persons shelter on underhill road and the area is full of families with young children (myself included). the only safe option is to cross on to the other side of lordship lane (i.e. across from the harvester) then back over towards the harvester, which is time consuming and just plain ridiculous.the only way you can cross over is when no vehicles want to turn left into dulwich common. how can this be a safe and practical crossing? there ideally needs to be a pelican crossing and signs telling people when it is safe to cross and warning drivers to slow down - as they go at crazy speeds, especially at night when there is not much traffic. James Barber
Hi esme,I suspect it was one of the concervative College ward councillors who contacted you OR the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.I'll ask Cllr Lewis Robinson what the latest is and report back. I know he's been trying to make this happen for some considerable time. So they contain rubbish people have disposed of responsibly. So those people are treated to the sight of their rubbish ending up on the streets anyway -half mauled and regurgitated by the foxes! So....Urban fox hunting league, anyone?Tally ho! James Barber
Hi esme,Cllr Lewis Robinson has provided the following update regaridng the south circular junction at the Harvester restaurant."TfL have undertaken to put a pedestrian phasing insat this juncton and its in their works programme for late summer this year. They have already completed a traffic count to facilitate this as I ran into them on site.I am expecting them to improve the phasing of the lights for traffic at the same time to mitigate traffic flow issues at the junction at the same time."So plans afoot. James Barber
Thames Water and its contractors need to undertake 40metres of mains repairs from outside 60 East Dulwich Road towards Adys Road. They propose to start the works 8am 1 June until 5pm 2 June. Seems ambitious. So expect some parking pressures in the general area and disruption to this route. Carrie
James - this may fall just outside your area - but do you know why the council intendes to cut down the plane trees at the Goose Green end of Grove Vale - notices say for health and safety reasons but the trees look pretty healthy to me. James Barber
Hi Carrie,I don't know. They look healthy to me and without them suspect that part of Goose Green would be boggier. I've emailed the head tree officer in the council asking. NB these trees are in South Camberwell ward.Hi tommy,Ady's Road forms the borders between South Camberwell and The Lane wards. Clear that Ady's Road needs serious patching. I thought I'd explained that each Community Council area has funds it can allocate to such repairs and renewals. One of the The Lane ward councillors is Barrie Hargrove. He is the new Labour Cabinet member for Environment and his portfolio covers highways. You should email him directly on [email protected] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7779-former-east-dulwich-councillor-how-can-i-help/page/34/#findComment-329214 Share on other sites
James Barber
The Londis at 93 Lordship Lane has applied to sell alcohol 24/7 and change the layout to promote the sale of alcohol more. Please see attached for more details. If you wish to object/support this licence variation reference 832135 contact [email protected] stating a reason. This premise is at the southern tip of an alcohol induced crime warm spot. Hotspot would be over egging it but definately more alcohol crime between this shop and Goose Green roundabout than expected. SimonM
James,The Council has done a lot of good work improving many pavements and adding dropped curbs at various junctions over the last few years. I am not sure if this is even your area, but wonder if you could advise me how I go about finding out what plans there are for adding dropped curbs at the junction of Ryedale and Forest Hill Road? It seems anomalous this had not already been done, given all the additions and improvements to many roads close by. As it is, crossing this road can be quite awkward.ThanksSimonM Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7779-former-east-dulwich-councillor-how-can-i-help/page/34/#findComment-330072 Share on other sites

Ant
Hi James,Do you know if the resurfacing on Landells Road is still going ahead from tomorrow as planned? I haven't seen any evidence: nothing through the door, no signs up along the road etc. Thanks,Ant Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7779-former-east-dulwich-councillor-how-can-i-help/page/34/#findComment-330127 Share on other sites
James Barber
Hi Ant,That is strange.I cna only presume it is but if nmo signs or letters it must be delayed.I've received an emergency traffic order notification of road resurfacing on Hindmans Road between Upland Road and Tyrell's Road starting 15 minutes ago (this morning at 8am). Perhaps the resources have had to be diverted.Eitherway, I contacted the officer in charge to ask. As soon as I have any information I'll let you know. Nero
James, there are lots of weeds growing up out of the cracks at the bottom of walls on Goodrich Road, especially from the Barry junction upwards to Donkey Alley. Cd you tell me whether the sprayers will be coming around soon, and how often they are meant to do their job? Thanks. James Barber
Dulwich Leisure Centre.New letter from the new labour Cabinet member in charge of Leisure. It will cost circa ?5,000 to post out. Thankful the project so far progressed that Labour have'nt canned this flagship Lib Dem strategy. Attached FAQ's state reopening of the pool in August. Slipped another month since the election. TarahC
I live on Melbourne Grove, the station end. We are all very fed up with the road works down this road. We understand that the work needs to be done but it is the notification of it that has been a problem. Last night I came home to find traffic cones along the road, inbetween the cars and white spray paint on the road surface saying 'no parking 8/6' - this has given us 1 day notice. Luckily we weren't away for any reason but a few unlucky people are still parked there probably blissfully unaware that they should have moved. This happened with the pavement works in the winter as well (along with us all bring given parking tickets the day after the road works finished as they took away a little sign saying we could park with our wheels on the curb but didn't tell anyone - luckily enough people complained so the tickets were deleted) Surely some sort of notification could have been given earlier than less than 24hrs? I assume that it was not spur of the moment? Also, there is some confusion about the parking restrictions on Melbourne Grove by the shop and the closed back entrance to Dulwich Hospital - some people park there but no-one is really sure that we can (and it would help alot due to the bad condition the sides of my car are in from scrapes since the pavements were renewed and seem wider)Can you confirm whether you can park along those sides in the daytime? I believe there are also 2 doctor spaces. thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7779-former-east-dulwich-councillor-how-can-i-help/page/34/#findComment-330473 Share on other sites
apmuso
Hi TarahC - did you not get a letter from the council in the last two weeks outlining the work still to be done and the timetable for it? We certainly did and like you live at the station end of MG. Understand your frustration re damage to parked cars. Thought the removal of the pavement parking signs would reduce the flow of traffic down the road, but it just seems to be the same but with more wing mirrors being wrecked! It seems you can't change the mindset of drivers who have used MG as a ratrun since time began. What really hacks me off is that no-one stops to fess up to damaging your car. They must surely know they've scraped along the side of it?The only solution to the problem once the resurfacing is finished and the bumps are in, is to make the road one-way and send the other direction down Elsie. Don't know why this plan seems to have been shelved?
