I love trees as much as the next tree hugger BUT.

In some streets there are too many big trees which have been neglected and these big trees are undermining foundations the council should have a plan to remove the big trees and replace them with new but I guess they don't want to spend the money.

I've got two trees outside both are way too big and should be cut down and replaced.

There are signs of cracking in my front wall and who takes the blame NOT Southwark?

Maybe they're realising that they need to do something but it?s a little late for a lot of us.

James can you please ask who ever is responsible to stop planting trees like the Sycamore from being planted they self seed and have a lot of rapid leaf and seed drop in a short time causing blocked drains they really should not be planted outside peoples houses.

Who would I contact to ask to have these trees replaced?

The up lighters just outside East dulwich station should be working from 17 December. Three weeks of contractors making slightly bigger holes than currently there and wiring up the new up lighters.

Sadly those ulighters were installed with no view to how they'd be maintained and uplighters are talking to a local electrician often problematic mainteance wise.

So we're getting all new LED up lighters. THey need slightly bigger holes etc.

Here's the fun part - they're programmeable to give different lighting effects. So I've asked for something seasonal and Christmassy. God knows what the council ighting engineers will make with such an imprecise brief but whatever I'm sure it will be fun.

A bit of a moan about rubbish collecting I'm afraid. This morning the guys came and as we're three flats in a house we have 2 normal waste bins which today were full and had a couple of bags next to them for pick up. The guys left the bags next to the wheelie bins - which they had to move to get at the wheelie bins. Now given that collection is 2 every 2 weeks I suppose we'll fill our bins by a week saturday meaning more bags will be left ad infinitum we'll have a tip in our front garden.

It's happened before and last time I spoke to someone in the waset department I got some short shrift on how bags will only be collected if they're in the bins - seriously which jobsworth wrote this policy as it only causing waste to pile up on our streets!

If you email your precise address I'll ask officers to ensure the crew that covers your road shows a little more flexibility and initiative.

NB. They have been berated for taking items next to wheelie bins away that werent out for rubbish collections. So that might have made them overly cautious.

I totally agree with the above post on belvoir road . I too live on the road and have done for nearly 11 years and now have 2 young children and a dog . it is a nightmare on the school run just trying to get all in the car safely without being hit by speeding passers by !I do feel the speed at which cars come down here is utter madness !

I just found out that the 100hrs pharmacy at Dulwich Medical Centre on Crystal Palace Road has been approved by the PCP(?) However it says that DMC still need to apply to the local authority for permission to use the premises as 100hrs. Can people who live close to DMC have their say as part of the process of the local authority reviewing the application?

Hi Mutrik,

That is shocking.

My understanding is that the 100 hours pharmacy on Crystal Palace Road would still need planning permission. So we all need to be vigilant for any notice of a planning application and ensure if council officials were minded to grant permission that it at least goes before a planning committee to be decided.

If you're a patient of DMC let them know what you think - I suspect it might well push some people to find a different more community minded practice.

The fault has been tracked to be with the electricity supply and the provider is aware. They're not usually very quick at fixing such faults.

Noting your new email campaign for this "new school" business James, is there somewhere to register if we do not want a school on the hospital site?

I would have thought, given the current threat to Lewisham A&E and that Kings is already bursting, consideration and future planning for further healthcare should be in place and the hospital space would be ideal and more appropriate rather than a school. Afterall, over the years, if schools werent closed in the first place there would have been plenty of space for LOCAL people. No?

Interesting point. When a planning application is made you should have opportunities to object.

The hospital site from memory is 27,000m2 and typically a new primary school would apparently be around 5,000m2.

The work that that took place to some of teh pavements on Derent Grove have resulted in rubble being left in the road in several places along the length of the road, exacerbating the parking diffciulties and presenting a potential hazard. Given that no work appeared to take place last week, nor as far as I am aware any effort by the contractor to remove the rubble, do you have any way of finding out what's happening? There was very little notice given that any work was going to take place and the continued disruption is rather frustrating.

Several aspects that trouble me. That un barriered piles of rubble etc remain which implies contractors who havent got a clue how they're legally required to work on public highway areas. Quite likely thre works were undertaken to a poor quality and will need redoing sooner than you'd normally expect.

This isn't a request for help, but I notice in the latest edition of Southwark Life that in the article on markets it says that North Cross Road market is "now open Monday to Saturday, opening times vary".

I live just round the corner, and I don't recall seeing any stalls there from Monday to Thursday. Is it really open on those days, or was that a mistake?

Technically the market is open Mon-Sat inclusive. No market stallholders there Mon-Thurs, a very few on Fridays.

Shame they've produced effectively misinformation.

as cars are parked there on those days ??
