I'm new to this so please bear with me, but I had to comment on how down hill the 'Seacow' has gone of late. We had take away from there last night and it was awful Why??? I'm sure your all going to write back and say I should be using some local chippie run by some ED locals, but I've enjoyed the food in there since it's opened and have fallen for the feeling that I'm not eaten some greasy, deep fried heart attack food- even though I know I am. It's looking like I need a new chippie I hear 'Olly's' is good?

i've been to both seacow recently and it seemed okay. although, having said that, the mushy peas last time were more runny than mushy. no reason not to go though.

Seconded on the mushy peas - more a case of pea puree! Other than that I have always had nice fish and chips in and takeaway from Seacow

I have found it to be hit and miss, but more hit to be honest. Had a dodgy one a month or two ago and a fabulous one last week!

Hmm I only ever got take out from there once, it was dire so I never went back. I'm very fussy about my chips and have found the best fish n chips at Camberwell. The Flying Fish is on Camberwell Church Street and it's fantastic, they buy their fish fresh from Billington market and cook it to order. The guys that run are really lovely and they have a restaurant out the back where you can BYOB.

The one on Uplands Road is good as well.

I love the fish in the Sea Cow but the chips are bloody horrible. I heard they import them half-cooked from Holland or something?

Yeah.. that's my issue with TSC (as I'm sure it will be re-named soon ha ha).

The fish has always been good (apart from once) but the chips aint great.

Hmmm? Is all this fish you lot are scoffing coming from sustainable stocks? Perhaps our local traders should set up some kind of karma offsetting scheme where, say two mugs of fair-trade coffee allows you to have one portion of line caught swordfish? ;-)

I think the fish at TSC is generally very good (must admit I usually just plump for the cod). I had one very ropey piece of cod there a few weeks back and actually complained about it - couldn't even finish it. They were fine about it and didn't charge me and seemed concerned. In terms of sustainable fishing - they used to have a card there showing the various types of fish served and indicating the sustainable manner in which it was sourced.

Added benefit - the waitresses are generally pretty tasty.

Although in my (admittedy limited one off) experience they just keep the change assuming it's a tip. The fact she got half as much as she would have seemed like a fair outcome to me.

One of the good things about Seacow is how they have removed certain fish from their menu because of sea-stocks which should be applauded

As I've said I'm not a fish-man but I do remember getting a carton of chips in there and loving them..

I really don't see what the place on Upland Road has to recommend it to anyone. Every time I've been there it's been bog-standard greasefest all the way. Can it really be that I'm just unlucky each time I visit?

Yes I agree fish was tasteless.I highly recommend the one opposite
