Woof dear, you are clearly living in Peckham. Why have you not mentioned this in the past?

Every child on our road is called at least one of the following: Iris, Charlotte, Olympia, Freya, Hector, Columbus, George, Max or "Stone", but his paerents are from North Dublin (lottery winners, clearly!). OHMYGOD!

Here's what to do, think up a munter of a name like say "Montmorency"

Then say

"He can be Monty then, as in python "

She'll say

"God no ! I prefer Rory to Monty anyday "

Bingo, the boy is named ( not "Bingo" but "Rory" BTW )

Poor kid anyway, "Rory" he's bound to have a milk allergy ,Asthma & eczema with that name, I mean really

My Dad uses a plumber with surname Mains, and a carpet fitter with surname Pile. I wonder if they felt they just didn't have any other option when it came to career choice?

My favourite "Dulwich" name is Milo (which in NZ is a type of malty bedtime drink, but here seems to be the choice of name for the nouveau rich).

Ophelia, what was wrong with her parents? They must have been snootical as all hell.

I assume her folks thought she would exist in a rarified world of creatives, bankers, artists or possibly in a PG Wodehouse novel.

Didn't they have domestics to advise them? If in doubt consult the help.

Sharon Balls says soap star, Tracy Balls a girl group 'diva' and Natalie Balls could be a new British artist.

Always opt for a common first name if you have a risible surname.

Oh stop it MM. Ed Balls? Now you're just making stuff up.

No one of any importance could be called Ed Balls. It sounds like a character from an Ian Dury song.

His biographer's name was Kevin Balls, which was good, though no Patricia Plaistow or Trevor Clever.

Still ne'er mind, eh?

All the Tristan's I have meet have turned out to be bratts, but "Beowulf" is shockingly good in the "pardon, come again " stakes. Will it be shortened to "Be-o" or "Wulfy" either way......erm.. "Way"

In the year below my son is a boy called "Tu-pac".

Though when I heard "Tu-pac" someone joked

"Oh yeah, his brother's called Biggy"

My jaw dropped "No"

" No ,not really he's called "Shakur"...."Yeah for real"

My mouth opened again but no words came out

From the ever marvellous Half Man Half Biscuit on this topic

"...a woman who described herself as "a little bit Bridget, a little bit Ally, a little bit Sex In The City" and chose to call her baby boy Fred as a childishly rebellious attempt at a clever reaction to those who might have expected her to call him Julian or Rupert. Bit of advice: call him Rupert. It fits, and besides, its a good name. Don't be calling him Fred or Archie with all its cheeky-but-loveable working-class scamp connotations unless you really do have plans for him to spend his life in William Hill waiting for them to weigh in at Newton Abbott."

I have these dilemmas looming large. Current short list includes Ichabod and Croydon.

    • All the more reason to support the BBC.  The last thing we want is a news service controlled by the likes.
    • I am genuinely curious… what is this obsession with keeping children active with things to do after school. From what I know, most  CV kids to rugby or football of a weekend but do they actually need activities during the week after school? What about going home, relaxing before homework and I don’t know, reading a book, drawing, Lego, constructing a car/plane.. even making some cookies…
    • The BBC is one of the finest, if not the finest, broadcasters in the world.  They have been admired by many across the world for their journalism.  There have been numerous arrests since their recent expose on convenience shops that cover ups for criminals - money laundering, contraband,  illegal workers and the like. By no means perfect and some of what they have done in the modern world is questionable - the website often comes across as tabloid or sensationalist, as do some of their documentaries, and at times it is full of low grade game shows, fly on the wall etc which bring the punters and money, including overseas, in but is not quality TV.  In their desperation for 'balance' they've given too much air time and credibility to some more extreme views, which contributed to Brexit and some of the rise in right wing parties.  I wish they'd say 'the convicted criminal' every time they talk about Yaxley Lenon. The programme was clumsy, why it didn't go through proper clearance including the lawyers, I don't know.  But it created zero stir at the time. Zero.  And had no impact on the election, so Trump has no case.  I hope they don't cave in like many of the US corporations and media.  Oh and well done to South Park using the small p*nis defence in ridiculing him. What I expect is as the Beeb is pretty centrist in it;s reporting in riles some of those who thrive on the toxic populism we have seen since Trump mark 1 and Brexit.  How sad.
    • I understand from Pao that they are taking a short break but will be re-opening on Tuesday 25th November and also that there will be a sign in the window tomorrow, by way of confirmation. Meanwhile, greatly  missed!
