Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to us with a possible reaction to the MMR. J had his 2 weeks ago under the new schedule where they basically get the 12 and 13 month jabs together. The nurse offered to do them seperately as they had only just started combining them but I was a bit flustered and just said do them all. Wished I hadn't almost immediately but anyway.

Basically since about a week after J hasn't slept well waking every 2-3 hours screaming hysterically, and often doesn't want to be comforted or held, and has had a niggly temperature and been off his food. I took him to the gp today after a particularly traumatic and short nap as I was really concerned that he was in pain and was finding it all very upsetting. The gp wanted to treat the sore throat and cold he has had since friday ie at least four days since the symptoms began, so he is now on a course of antibiotics. I did ask about the possibility of this being a reaction to the injections but didn't get much of a responce, other than its very important childrn have their injections. I happened to ask about some lumps on the back of his head, that i hadn't noticed before and he said they were probably lymph nodes and oh you can get that with rubella! (or just a virus)

Anyone else had any experience of this??? If so how long did it last for your little ones as I am on my knees with sleep deprivation, feel like i have a new born again! Plus feel awful that he obviously feels so crap and we are about to take out shares in calpol!

I've also been thinking along the lines of night terrors, and reaction to cows milk as he does get very windy overnight, but just feel waking up 7 times in one night screaming can't just be put down to these things. J was previously sleeping through apart from the odd teething nights. Have tried him on goats milk and dosed him up with gripe water thou just in case as basically grasping at straws now.

If anyone has any ideas will be gratefully recieved.

Hi, I dont understand, was this a combination of MMR and another vaccine or a double dose of MMR. Has your son an intolerance to eggs as I know egg protein is used in the MMR vaccine. Did your doctor say the lymph nodes were related to infection, if so, has there been any improvement since starting the antibiotics.

I'm sorry cant offer much help, I decided against vaccination, as my mother also decided for me.

If your doctor is with a group surgery I would take your son to a diffrent doctor in the group.

Bathing him with diluted apple cider vinegar is very good for bringing down fever, and swollen lymph glands.

It must be so worrying for you, I hope someone can offer some reassurance who may have had similar reactions, hope he

gets better soon.

Hi

A week after my son had his MMR he was really off it - had one of the worst nights sleep since he was a newborn, his temp was 39 for a couple of days and he had a rash.

I don't know if it was the MMR but I mentioned it to the nurse when we went in for his swine flu jab and she said it probably was as some babies do react badly to it.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for your replies. It was the first of the 2 MMR which they now give at the same time as the men c and hib boosters so poor poor little thing had 3 injections. GP did say the lymph nodes could either be as a result of a virus but then casually slipped in that you would get that with rubella, as essentially they are giving him a small dose of the disease so that the body builds up an immunity to it. There is no treatment for rubella other than wait and if its a viral illness then atibiotics have no effect anyway. He felt he had a bacterial throat infection, which wasn't really why I went in the first place as that had only started 3 days previously!

Anyway whatever worked we all got 6 hours sleep last night which is the best we've had in over a week, so whilst i don't quite feel like a new woman yet i certainly feel better than I did!

Hopefully if its only three weeks I think we can all survive it. Grandma coming on thursday too so she can take over!!

My 2 had the hib and men C jab (only - not MMR) last Tuesday (late - was due at 12 months and I allowed it at 18 months because of fear of bombarding them with jabss when they are little.

That evening they were both very crabby and had high temps. Since then both got a cough (a bacterial throat infection) for which my son (the worst hit) was given pencillin. He has been horribly poorly ever since (tuesday evening to monday) and is only just through the worst of it - temps up to 40, cough, sweats, moaning, screaming, sleeping all day and so on. I had the Dr on the phone 3 times over the weekend and am told I am a very "un-neurotic Mum".

Oh - and they both got a (probably unrelated) eye infection that began on Weds night...

I am absolutely convinced the viral-sounding parts of this were linked to the vaccination.

My little girl had a horrific reaction to the 4 month jab (which I let them have at 6 months) - fevers for 4 days, head to toe raised angry rash etc.

I have read Richard Halvorsen's book on vaccinations (worth a read if you are concerned about this area) and following this most recent nightmare I am more concerned than EVER about MMR, but all medical professionals you speak to (our GP, Paediatrician, hospital doctors) will tell you how irresponsible you are for delaying / deciding not to have it.

It is a bloody mine field and I for one really don't know what to do about MMR.

Having had measles, mumps and rubella as a child I am glad my children will not have to go through these now. My brother was hospitalised with measles and I certainly wouldn't want to see my children as ill as he was. As a parent you have to weigh it up, a week of sore throat and fever or the possibility of something much worse.

I posted this in lounge earlier.

If you click on foia wins mmr appeal, and then the archives, where warnings were given about the MMR in 1988,

the year my brother was born. My mother told me at that time there were two diffrent companies making the vaccines,

each with same strains except for the mumps, which had 10 times more international units of the strain,

after attending an appointment,

a health visitor made for her, to see a doctor because she was refusng to give us vaccines, he had no idea which one they used at the clinic.

    • Surprise, surprise. It didn't take them long, did it. This will be something of a test as to how much the council really care about parks and the environment. A footfall of 60,000. Are they mad? There is no way this park is designed for or can sustain that sort of use.
    • There was another unprovoked attack on Monday this week on a young woman nearby (Anstey Road) at 6.45pm. Don't have any other details, it was posted on a Facebook group by her flatmate. Pretty worrying  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EGfDrCAST/
    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.
