0801 the morning after 22+ people are murdered in Manchester and the Crown and Greyhound tweets: "It's official! We'll be waking up with a brand new pub June 19th! So put it in your diary & let the countdown begin!"

Great to know that some combination of that pub's management/ Mitchells and Butler have such humanity.

Im sure that everyone waking up is shocked and saddened by the news from Manchester. Lets not be so quick to brand anyone as lacking in compassion. Some people may not have seen the news, some people may react by 'getting on with things', and not being 'intimidated'.....

in anycase, perhaps lets just keep this thread to news about the pub I think.....I for one, am cautiously optimistic about it being open again in a month...

The news from Manchester is awful, and prayers go out to everyone involved. But terrorism happens on a daily basis around the world, often never reported in the media. Do we stop going about our business every single time something awful happens? Maybe timing wasn't great, but let's not jump to conclusions. I'm sure it was not intended to be offensive.

An Estate Agent in Manchester took ALL the house pictures out of their window

and replaced them with I love Manchester posters as a sign of respect.

M&B announce the opening of their new pub.

Says it all.

I'm with bgw on this.

It's possible to schedule tweets to go out automatically at some point in the future, so maybe that was done - personally I was working late last night, slept in and so didn't hear the news from Manchester until 8.30AM, quite possibly the same for the tweeter. Nothing to see here, I think.

bgw if you're that offended why don't you contact the author of the tweet ?

he/she may be obliged to promote the opening as of today / may not have checked the news bulletins / may have thought it's not their place to comment on the atrocity using the channel they've (presumably) opened specifically for the pub.

Talk about looking for offence. You fools looking to attack people just for doing their job, because it's not on the terms you've just invented (for other people to oblige to !).

I notice you have no words for the perpetrator, but you do for some unrelated person.

Did you preface YOUR first business/work comms today with a homage to the dead and injured, a minutes silence, by making a donation to charity ? What did YOU do if you're so squeaky clean ?!

Come off it, you plonker. Even you don't actually believe this twaddle.

Used this pub back in the 70's about 1/2 dozen times when I lived in Peckham.

Been once or twice in the 37 years I have lived in East Dulwich.

Last time in 2008 when I had visitors.

Haven't missed it over last couple of years.

Don't drink during the day. Don't travel far at night.

Unlikely to start using it now. Even if they were giving the beer away.

Well I'll be going in to see what's changed. I am enjoying my longer walks after doctors orders. It's the perfect summer time spot, let's just hope it's not been ruined with a unsympathetic refurb. I look forward to seeing some of you there!

    • I wouldn't recommend Forest Hill if you have a child in one of the Dulwich private schools and you intend to cycle. ..that hill is very steep. In my opinion the ideal locations would be around Court Lane/near library - I used to cycle across Dulwich Park with my little one to go to one of these schools - when I used to live there. Houses might be on the smaller side. around North Dulwich/Herne Hill great transport link to the City and you are also close to Brockwell Park  or West Dulwich (not the most exciting area but very quiet and very convenient for DP, pre Prep and DC.)  Nice houses as well.
    • I was born in my Nan's house on Belvoir Road in February 1995 and I lived with my mum and also my younger sister at 185 Ladlands, Overhill Road. I went to nursery and then school at Goodrich Community Primary School and remember the following staff members - Miss Hunter, Mr Coleman & Mr Johnson. A few pupils I remember are - Tanya, Flo, Lauren, Lucy, Arcadeus (not 100% sure of spelling). I moved to Bromley in the early 00s.
    • My mum used to go to a Caribbean shop in Sydenham in the 90s but can't remember the name of the shop. The man's name was Roger. Any ideas?   TIA
    • I look out for them tomorrow over Horniman Gardens.  Separately our garden has been invaded by large birds, magpies, a jay or two, starlings, a couple of wood pigeons and less great and blue tits than usual, virtually no long tailed tits and only the occasional dunnock.  No blue tit nesting this year either..... Here's a lovely picture when the common redpolls visited a few weeks ago, feeding on sunflower chips with the goldfinches.  Note the home made anti-parakeet cage (from a squirrel proof feeder)
