I basically stick to a couple of favourite threads in the lounge, and when I did pop in to the main forum it was mental!
-
With regards the cricket, the culture secretary wrote to the cricket board to basically tell them what to do as I understand it.

You hit the nail on the head, if there is no oil, and hence money to be made / stolen, America won't bother. And it would seem that if they don't, then we won't either. It is absolutely unbelievable what he gets away with, and this country seems to think banning the cricket team from playing here will make a statement... Hmm :-S

Doh!!! Oh yeah *checks diary* Mid September??? Maybe we should aim to tag one on the end of the season... Definitely think a return match is needed!
-
Okay, are we going to have a rematch in August (July is chocka for me really, 19th would be the only Saturday I'm free)??? As long as we avoid August 9th I'm in!

... I have made 3 or 4 really good friends through it, and met loads of other nice people :)-D My liver doesn't love it for the above reasons.

Be fair Mockney, she was ever so slightly tipsy too! :-$ -

Ha, alas, much as I enjoy tennis, I am beyond rbbish at playing it!

I enjoy tennis, but Federer's domination has basically made me lose interest recently. He is amazing, but you just know he will win things, and Nadal will win the French open. If he, and ideally both of them get kncked out, I will be glued to it! I know you always have a dominant player, but usually they have someone who will give them genuine competition, like the John Mcenroe to Bjorn Borg, or Andr Agassi to Pete Sampras.

Bloody hell Yellowdee that is quite an introduction to the forum! I agree with your initial points about Peckham and East Dulwich a few years back, I'm from here too. As for I don't know if I'm one of those at whom that's directed, as I was involved in the "debate", but that's like saying you can accuse anyone of anything, and if they defend themselves because they're a bit annoyed at an accusation, it's just proof that the initial accusation was true. That makes no sense! I am also loving It kind of reminds me of saying whatever you like to someone you don't know at all then sticking fingers in your ears and going something like "La la la la la la la la la la". Man this is the first thread I have gotten involved with in the main section of the forum for months. I'm off back to the lounge to talk about football, it's safer there.

Oi Sydenham has lots of beautiful houses, you just need to get off the high street.
-
Note, when I say "rough", I don't mean in a violent / scary way, I meant in a shabby way.

Surely no one would argue with that point, Peckham, Camberwell, Forest Hill, Sydenham and Crystal Palace all have nicer houses than East Dulwich! Also, Lordship Lane isn't perfect, and parts of it (near HSBC) stink at times for reasons I try not to think about. Sydenham High Street (near me) is horridly crowded to walk down, and has far too many rubbish shops. I think people are taking this as a personal assult if they live in Peckham. It's not, it's just a fact that in the last decade or so, Rye Lane has gone down hill and is now rough and, in parts, smells a bit grim.

LOL, good one Louisa, although everyone I speak to who has been to Le Moulin has gone back again because it is great. Alas I don't get to go often as it's far from ideal for vegetarians (Mrs Keef).

I too see where Snoozequeen is coming from, but I find the racist thing incorrect. Clive wrote > And yes it has those big high street stores, but > (as you quite well know) they are overwelmingly > outnumbered by stores selling stuff that few of us > would buy. NOTE THERE IS A FULL STOP AT THE END OF THAT. This makes no mention or even alludes to anything about race. He then goes on to say; > most of the shops are ethinic beauty > salons, food shops and ?1 electronics etc shops. > In fact from the bottom of Rye lane to peckham rye > trainstation (a fair distance) i believe there are > about zero "normal" highstreet shops. You paraphrased that as "You tell us that "normal" stores are "overwhelmingly outnumbered" by "ethnic beauty salons" that few of "us" would buy things in"., which is in no way a fair reflection of what he said! Clive came on here and said Peckham was a good place to live, as did I, but then the conversation somehow gets dragged in to this odd racial arguement, which has nothing to do with anything! Peckham as a whole, the bellenden area in particular, is a good place to live, and there are plenty of places to buy things / eat or drink out. Rye Lane is a crappy High Street. It is no more dangerous than anywhere else, and you will not be offered drugs randomly as you walk down the road, but the fact remains that it is a bit naff. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT COLOUR ANYONE IS. It has plenty do do with the fact that it is a low income shopping area to be brutally honest. People that live in Peckham but who have a bit more to spend will basically go elsewhere to do their shopping. That is the truth.

I don't think that actually bothered Spadetownboy too much Atila, think green shirts.

I'd narrowed it down to 2, and having spoken to our drummer, I believe I do now know.

Snoozequeen, I was in Rye Lane last week, until last year I was there every day. Peckham is an area with a lot of black people, it has been for years, but I still don't think it's true to say that the white faces have all but disappeared. I posted earlier that I find it on the dirty and smelly side (but not dangerous or full of drug dealers). The reason I said that was not because of anyone's skin colour, but simply because that is my observation. Rye Lane is scruffy these days, and could do with some investment or something. One could argue that a high street in an area such as Brixton is equally, if not more black. However, Brixton High Street is miles nicer than Rye Lane. It has nothing to do with skin colour, the street has just gone down hill. That's just my opinion, I can't speak for anyone else, but I've not seen anything on here that I would call racism, but of course, I could have missed something. For the record, I have spoken up for Peckham as a whlole.

snoozequeen1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As for Keef asking me if I am black or white, I find it just baffling. Why are you baffled? I was asking because I wondered what context your opinions / observations came from, and I thought that was clear. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking someone their skin colour. I can see the point you are trying to make, but you take it too far. To suggest that there is a geographical divide between black and white people, as a result of a return to 70s type racism is a huge exaggeration at best!

Really, I heard they were dealing coke in the form of small red cubes or something. -
For the record, Brendan is an actual living African person.
-
Er, you've basically just said that everyone in East Dulwich is racist. Out of interest, are you black, or are you white, and just far more open minded than anyone in East Dulwich (including of course the actual living African people)? I'm just wondering.

There be beasties there!
