Ofcom have created a website so you can see where the nearest masts to your house are http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/ Anyone concerned about these things, or is it more useful to see which provider will offer the best coverage down your street ?

New organic, fairtrade shop on Bellenden Road
tommy replied to tommy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Popped in tonight - very nice man serving, with loads of interesting produce. Business apparently is good, with lots of comments about local support - and the EDF... He showed us the space in the back which is going to be a cafe, and also told us about the shop across the road is going to be a beauty treatment place. Lots of shops along Bellenden Road are apparently being filled -
Come on - there are loads of ATMs that don't charge anything for getting out your money. The only time I've been charged is when I've either been lazy or drunk - the screen also tells you that you are about to be charged so there should really not be an excuse
-
M.M - like the name (!) but sounds a little like a no-go zone Reminds me of a newspaper article calling the Bellenden Rd / Maxted Rd / Oglander Rd area as the "Golden Goose Triangle"...

Golden Anchor in Tooting is really excellent for both fish and chips When I was living there, friends in E.D decided on a food "off" - E.D Vs Tooting F&C - Sea Cow Vs Golden Anchor Chinese - Golden Lee Vs Peters Indian - Pistachio Club Vs Samrat Votes were cast for food, service, decor and atmosphere - it was a gruelling contest, and a close run thing

Few other thread about the Montpelier (Lounged I think...) - but I think they have learnt a few lessons since their recent opening. Hope the initial feedback doesn't put people off what could be a great pub. Obviously service charge is optional - and can be declined Nero - I do agree that it should be put on menus / forewarned though I think they have lots of space upstairs - so maybe potential for comedy / bands ? I'm glad it went really well Rob - did they wheel out a birthday cake ?

Say what you like, but she makes exceeding good cakes

New organic, fairtrade shop on Bellenden Road

Good luck and welcome to the area - great to see Bellenden Rd getting some more interesting and unique shops. You'll find the other owners / shop staff very friendly, helpful and interested in your business doing well -
Bombay Bicycle Club to open in Upper East Side
tommy replied to Nero's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Best authentic curry in the local area must be Ganapati - great fish curry (although the two sittings timing is a little annoying)- so something like that on LL would be a winner I agree with the comments about Tooting - spoilt for choice indeed, many Time Out winners and cheap to boot. Radha Krishna across the road from Tooting Broadway tube / Sainsburys does a great Masala Dosa I've also always liked Samrat (including the etched glass panels) - next to Tooting station for cheap curry favourites Whenever I've had Bombay Bicycle (Wimbledon) I've been disappointed with the price / quality ratio -
Hi Asset, yes that is with VM - tried pasting the link here but check out the website under offers (Broadband, Home phone and free TV for ?20) Virgin isn't perfect, but I feel they offer value and what I need. Also Sky charge you if/when your box breaks down - Virgin doesn't HD content wise the only channel they have on V+ is BBC HD, and a few programmesusing their On Demand services - although I suppose connecting your V+ box to your HD Ready TV (via HDMI) will upscale the picture - but still not full HD (Sky has over 10 HD channels curently) Am waiting for a deal on V+ (heard rumours it will be soon) - at present am happy with the basic digital TV and my new LCD arriving this morning...

Has anyone used Foxtons introduction 0% sale fee (Lounged)
tommy replied to rogertebbutt5k's topic in The Lounge
Saw my first Foxtons sign on Maxted Road - booo -
1. Zone 2, 10-15 mins train to Blackfriars, London Bridge and Victoria 2. Great selection of welcoming pubs - and will only get better 3. Lovely Victorian houses and open spaces 4. One of the cheapest cinemas in London withing walking distance 5. The mixed grill in Hizar Bad thing - people thinking you need a flak jacket to walk back from Peckam Rye station
-
We've got TV, broadband and home phone for ?20 - EXCELLENT value but if you want the HD content, and the easy of the EPG then maybe Sky is for you Considering V+ but ?150 installation (!) and ?5 a month after that (if you are not on the top TV package) is a little steep

Teething trouble probably - hope you mentioned it to the manager at the time ? Am sure if enough of their new customers pointed it out they would take it on board

This guy is obviously good at making a clean getaway ;-)

Thanks for the confirmation Keef Going back to what a pub has to do to encourage a decent (non trouble making, etc) clientele - what do people suggest is the best approach ? The Montpelier has tried with its music, candles, food, doorman on Friday night and now maybe pricing - so I will be supporting them, and hope like minded people will do the same. As another thread about anti social behaviour and gangs summed up, by using public spaces, parks and areas people can reclaim them or change behaviour of people around them. I sure the same thing can apply to pubs

Service charge on food brought to your table (although if drinks are in your order I suppose you end up paying service on those being brought to your table as well) No service on drinks bought on the door - that would be a tad extreme Bouncer on the door on Friday - looked very nice an atmospheric with candles on tables when I wandered past around 10pm
-
Went after the cinema yesterday, and was impressed. Nice atmosphere, lovely stripped floorboards and chocolate brown everywhere. I had the burger, my wife had the fishcakes (B.B - snap..) Wine list good as well, candles made it cozy and staff welcoming Popped in for a guiness this evening as well - lots of people "checking" it out. Good stuff
-
Tis open...candles on the table last night, and people eating oysters this lunchtime...all changes for the better

Somewhere to take the other half in and around LL
tommy replied to downsouth's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A walk around Peckham Rye Park is well worth doing - you can see the Pink Elephant - I mean fountain -
Morning all Having read that Marmora, Therapia, Mundania and Scutari Roads get their names from locations during the Crimean war does anyone else know the history of their road / street name ?

Haven't walked down LL for a while, so being a lovely evening we strolled down the lane, had a drink at EDT and down to the Sea Cow for dinner - got all excited by the huge big glass fronted shop - peered in - what was it going to be ? looked very swanky Then we realised it was going to be the Foxtons - ruined my Friday night... ;-) I mean - its huge

I stand to be corrected, but was the Wishing Well featured in the film "Last Orders" with Michael Caine, Helen Mirren, and Bob Hoskins ? (film royalty in more ways than one) I go past the Montpelier daily and am really hoping that it will be a friendly, good food pub - will prob have the same teething trouble as The Plough, but nothing a hike in prices (albeit unfortunate) and see-through windows can't fix
