Music Techies - Wireless Active Speakers - Logitech
mockney piers replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
I know you like to condescend to us all sometimes bob, but fact is music sounds shite through a fifty quid aiwa stereo. There is a middle ground between an ongaku valve amplifier and liquid nitrogen cooled speaker cable and 3 gram piece of plastic that purports to recreate recorded sounds. -

Seriously though, how do you get anything but for under ?500? Especially off a laptop, he just wanted something better than a crappy laptop speaker. I'd have still gone for something with a sub woofer for a little oomph. Actually not to hijack the thread but am pondering getting some new speakers, budget ?4-600. Any good recomendations? -
Huguenot, this forum is beset with enough real trolls to bandy about this word at genuine posters. Curly is a self-confessed literal interpreter (ooh there's that word again) of the bible. The world is 5000 years old, all the animals in the world (apart from the fish presumably, well maybe the fresh water ones) were on the ark etc etc he's simply arguing from a specific viewpoint much like the rest of us, surely this forum is big enough to encompass polar opposite views without us getting upset about them?

"What does exist is a wholly illogical breakdown of our cerebral capabilities, this causing a blindness to reality and a compound of forced indoctrination, weakness, gullibility and sadness." That's really rather unfair. I'd say religion and supersttion are the very products of mans amazing capacity for observation, analysis and learning. Look at sonehenge for instance as a testament about how we are able to learn and quantify that which is predictable through empirical observation. Contrast that wih the vagaries of climate, disease, food supply and natural disasters and in lieu of a more complete scientific picture, then I'd say that greater beings control these things according to their incomprehensible motives and/or whims, is probably a pretty understandable conclusion to come to. I mean, I still believe in Sod's law, it's just I have faith that there's a mathematical algorithm to quantify it somewhere that'll help us understand why. If that why turns out to be Loki then hats off to our ancients frankly! The second part of your statement is bad science, a doesn't cause b. B is a facet of social cohesiveness, traditions as well as maintenance of power and fear of change among many other things, not badly working brains surely.

Is the I-Phone ever going to come out on T-Mobile?

Poaching your eggs, there's an app for it. Actually I wonder if there's a rhythm method app? -

Sturdy they ain't. You need to get a decent protective case immediately. I seem to recall giving someone this advice prior to their cracked screen incident ... If I could just remeber who that was ... hmmm. As I've said before fantastic things, But poor batteries and poor phones and made of wet slippery soap. -
I'd be inclined to avoid any UIey stuff and do as the boys above suggested, particularly in Vista. Or just write a little python script and run that. Did you know if you hold shift and right click in a directory in explorer you get an 'open command window here' option which is nice to avoid typing those hideously long diectory paths.

Here you go mick, these are quite funky and unobtrusive. http://www.amazon.co.uk/JBL-Spot-2-1-Speakers-Interchangeable/dp/B000KVRBS8/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1260286191&sr=1-28 Ignore bob's funky minimalism for those who mono their radios. If you want pricey quality minimalism get one of these http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/musicalfidelity_a32.htm -

Young Betsy sill be due exactly two days after this so can't think of anything better to help take missus mocneys mind off the impending horror of childbirth. As wassername on five live said the other day, with all this amazing technology we have it's amazing we still give birth in this fashion, can't we just install a zip or something? -

Thinking about it, if music is important then MP3s off a laptop full stop is asking for trouble. How about just a decent pair of headphones? -

Generally any n.1 (ie with a subwoofer) system will give you decent enough volume, though the quality will not be hifi quality if music is your main thing, but if it's mostly iplayer and games it'll be grand. I can also see the attraction of wireless on a surround type system as the wires do get everywhere. I've a little 2.1 thing that cost about 40 quid for my pc upstairs and does the job absolutely fine. -
Here, just for keef, the whole of the Mariner's Revenge (aka the whale song) that he missed but could have seen at the Coronet the other night. great great gig. Every bit as good as the pixies, perhaps for me better. I will now live out my days in fear of Brendan!!!

You can't actually blame harry for our woes, but analysis of his reputation for canny wheeler dealing doesn't bear scrutiny and he did more harm than good overall. Wouldn't have changed his time there for anything. Some great players and lots of ups and downs.

ode to a pitchfork Overhears man grooming children on the green. Send him photos he said, am I hearing things? The world ails and sickens. Policeman nowhere to be found. Should I grasp the burden to challenge him? It's someone elses problem.

Weird thing is a decade ago we were one of the best run clubs financially there was. A succession of ground expansions, ill timed relegations and terrible chairmen/directors/financiers and credit crunch* have put paid to all of that. We may not have quite done a Leeds (especially as we haven't even got a moment of near glory to remeber unless being cheated out of an FA cup counts) bit we're not a million miles off. :( I suppose I should mention the woeful financial dealings of redknapp, Portsmouth and west ham? No coincidence there!!

"I tried watching, but didn't last past the chicken fillets." yeah. I was beginning to switch between that and batman at the chicken fillets, luckily I stuck wih it. Remembering batman as having perhaps the most confusingly nosensical denoument, thanks to the editors having clearly turned up to work then necking a bottle of JD, helped in the decision process. Give it a go keef.

Not seen it but will keep an eye out. LTROI thirded here, and much touted in this room. I watched Hapy Go Lucky on channel four. I do like mike Leigh but after the opening scene I wondered if I was goi g to last more than ten minutes. Luckily it picks up quite quickly and I found it really good, very warm and subtle. Loved sally Hawkins, great performance that conveyed Poppy's almost irritating optimism and her deep sensitivity and darker corners just brilliantly. Weirdly I suddenly realised that I'd watched one of the scenes being filmed in my lunch hour when I worked in Camden a couple of years back. I had had no idea what I'd been witnessing at the time, bu immediately recognised the shot. Bonkers.

Barack Obama...is it too soon?
mockney piers replied to tonyw3's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Seeing as he was awarded it when escalation was at that point his stated intention I suspect nthin would have changed. I think it was mote to do with bringing the USA back in to the family of nations and multilateral approaches. Utterly necessary if we are all to make progress on today's issues, and the fact that he was awarded it on such small scraps is a reflecting of just how aghast the planet was at the autarchical policies of the last 'orrible lot. -
We spaniards fry our rice prior to adding cold water to lock in the starch. *Bob* all I can say is I'm hoping to god alan dale doesn't see this thread and the two of you start having another bake off!!! It was uncomfortable viewing last time :-/ don't you have a bread maker?

Is anyone else finding the Everyman a bit odd today? What's with the general knowledgey bits? As for: Row about Diane being neater (6) what is this, the sun crosswordor an excerpt from Bob the Builder's big book of blindlingly obvious clues?

Oh well, that's one fewer than I predicted, so that's almost like a win. Ho hum. England should get through that group though they may struggle against the USA; Italy have been given a bye and I think Spain should make short work of their group before going on to become world as well as European champions.
