  1. But let's face it, they'll never commit any crimes will they. That's what I call effective justice.
  2. You do realise that we don't vote for a prime minister don't you. You vote for your own elected representative, the majority party(ies) form a government and choose a first minister, the electorate have never voted one in. Blair may have behaved like a presidential executive but that doesn't mean he was one. No wonder people don't engage wih the political process if even old warhorses like Steve don't understand it.
  3. Though there are certainly horrific cynical predators, and though it's hard for me to say, glitter seems to be one of them, plenty of paedophiles see mentally ill, often profoundly damaged as victims of sexual abuse themselves. Surely to demand death for them is tantamount to euthenasia, what next, cerebral palsy? Plus the whole 'they'll never do it again' thing, where lines drawn, death by drink driving, drink driving full stop (prevention being better than cure)?
  4. He's made some mistakes in the past, but he worked with some class directors and really understands cinema as art and entertainment. I think he's been one of the most interesting directors in recent times, weirdly considering his acting background and his larger than life character learnt that less is more. Millin dollar baby a bit schmaltzy for me but no denying the performances, likewise unforgivrn and great deconstruction of the western myth that helped make him too. One of the better ones put it that way, though give me Leone (no, not lewis) any day of the week!!
  5. Double dvd of that and flags of our fathers is about four quid in sainsburys. Recomend them both but keef spot on, letters from iwo jimo is a powerful and affecting film.
  6. Spain will win. England are irrelevant. That said I hope they go out atthe quarters in style instead of meekly like they always did under Sven. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them win it, but then I'd live to see West Ham win the premiership.
  7. yes yes yes, very excited by that. Hurrah!!
  8. We'll probably be in the castle, unless the weather stays this miserable then probably hoopers.
  9. Yes. Brown is largely to blame (if not specifically for the sub prime mortgages, certainly for our exposure to it). Plus he's been responsible for enourmous financial mismangement hat was largely off balance sheet during his time as chancellor. Seriously, it's like getting Bush senior to sort out the War on drugs on war and it's monstrous creations like Noriega .... Oh.
  10. Interesting points jimmyjimmy, but you forget hat even during the war he was attacked in parliament and by the media, the retrospective glow of victory meant people quickly chose to forget the doubts and attacks, and of course he was rewarded by promptly being voted out of power. He was a dman good orator though, which let's face it (as brilliantly written and inspirationalmas many of those speeches were) is more about style than substance isn't it. As someone mentioned earlier it was ever thus. I'm with bob, I'd lOve people to have a bit more imaginatin and take a leap of faith. Tome and again the liberals are the only ones whomever seem to make much sense about anything and seem focussed on issues and policies. The very least we can do is give them a chance. As dulwichmum SSS labour needs a long long break to take stock and away from self-serving career politicking may be abl to come tomterks with their behavior whilst In power. Anyone whomthjnks these Tories will be any different idle frankly mad, they may seem more like they're born to power (a disturbing thing in itself) but I see very little genuine ability among their big (or little for that matter) hitters. Blimey have you seen a more paranthesised post outside of a java forum?

    Damn!!
  13. Quietly?!?! ;-P
  14. All fair points sox. I actually dint really have a problem with the numbers limitations as the levels so well designed and the game types so nicely balanced that actually it doesn't make much of a difference to me. Plus the dying thing was a put off when I embarked on COD multiplayer in WaW, then I realised that noone else really cares and I just ploughed through the dying alot stage until I started dying less then got to the point where I was holding my own. I find it's less about reaction and much more about knowing the level inside out and anticipaing where people will be. The touches like the uav's air support, artillery (now predator drones) and now you get bonuses if you're dying alot to help those finding heir feet. But it is much less tactical than say the battlefield games. As I said, give ARMA 2 a go (I'm guessing you're talking PC, judging by talk of modding). It's endlessly customizable, huge and you can define your own scenarios to the nth degree.
  15. In all fairness there's nothing nasty about MM's comment, he's just imploring for a little more decorum, something I entirely applaud! I'm sorry if I got a little prams there but I felt I'd been personally insulted, undermined and had my integrity questioned (not that it's above reproach obviously). It got my goat to say the least.
  16. *Possible spoiler alert* ?Sandperson look away now! right, so that level. Am I the only one who thinks that the next time therenis either a Mumbai style atrocity or a columbine style massacre that a big fuss will be made about this game? I guarantee with the latter they'll find a copy of it in their house (mind you I'm currently 2,500,000th in the online leaderboards, that doesn't include people who play offline, and that's after three days on the Market!!) they won mention that everyone of those massacres was perpetrated by someone who had a fridge in their house though will they. On the other hand, I can believe some bitter nihilistic teen that goes on to a shooting spree will probably play that scene with a little too much glee!
  17. Gracefully? A slew of personal insults and insinuations juxtaposed with faecal euphemisms and that's graceful? Give me a break. But I understand, the nasty moderators are ganging up, because we like to abuse out power and lord it over everyone, again spot on, I can't believe I'd never realised what an arse (doubtless explains my hitherto unrealised coprophilia too) I am. Mea culpa mea maxima culpa.
  18. No you're right, I can see how a clearing up of a minor misundertanding is skating on thin ice. Consider my resignation tendered.
  19. If you have issues with my moderator activities I suggest you take them up with admin, if I've failed in my duties I shall take the criicism happily on board. When I speak as mockeny then that's my voice only, as per BBC style disclaimers, I do not necessarily reflect the views of the forum. I also appreciated the apology. Cheers quids, ver much appreciate the kind words.
  20. Firstly the Burns poem asking Huguenot to see himself as others see him, by which you mean you of course. Now you're hoping that others don't view my reputation as tarnished as a shit-eating lackey, which you would obviously never think, oh no, but others might of course, far be it from you to suggest. Pretty fucking insulting posts if you ask me. But Huguenot doesn't need my help, he's perfectly capable of looking after himself; if I ever step in it's because I find your rhetorical techniques disingenuous and distasteful, and hey, you're at it again.
  21. Very cryptic post sox, whats the requisite feature that's missing, I'm curious. Have finished main campaign andstill have no idea whatsoever what it was all about. Ratty, use your claymores by the ladders and entry hatches so you can concentrate on the approaching forces.
  22. Your one fallback matthew seems to be the deterrence value, but it simply isnt. For instance murder, if you're rational you won't do it, if you do it cold bloodedly its because you think you'll get away with it and if it's passion, drug psychosis or mental illness then, well you can guess the rest yourself. Deterrence is 6 points on your licence and losing your job as a rep. Capital punishment has been proved time and again to have little or no deterrent value. If you just think the man should die because what he did was horrible and wrong or even evil then I totally understand where you're coming from (though I'm always opposed to state sponsored murder full stop on principle) but give the deterrence thing a rest.
  23. Oh, poor thing (both of you). I'll be on til late so ping if you fancy it, though perhaps I'll let you get on with the campaign first in all fairness.
  24. I think he may have been referring to imbezzled (sic)
  25. Let me know when you want to team up on spec ops, get the feeling it's going to get very hard above regular.
