  2. EDT's been an aeon I guess but I remember the CPT changing around the turn of the millennium. I don't think I put any timescales in there though.
  3. First of the albums reviews of the year. The music geek's pitchfork. Can't believe Tianariwen is only 50!! My god, it seems like yesterday we were discussing top albums of 2006 Sean :(
  4. London has a long history of Lushes, right up to our very own Jah. My ancestor was something of an old soak in his day too. He and Pepys frequented many inns and watched London burn from the Anchor on bankside. There's even a pub named after him today, up the road in Deptford, though his town planning left a lot to be desired.
  5. PeckhamRose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I dunno, we managed almost and entire thread of them
  6. I keep getting 953 new threads and 22000 odd new posts on the general issues room, something odd is happening. Or maybe that's just what happened over the last 2 weeks ;)
  7. Why oh why does every thread end up about congealed blood and fat on this forum; and how many times do i have to tell you, it's great!?!
  8. I think I too have mentioned the architectural paucity of east dulwich v the riches of camberwell. I'm a member of the camberwell flickr group and enjoy the odd walk, whereas the "We are what we are and we ain't what we ain't" group meet in East Dulwich rapidly ended up in a pub. That said, we never felt like someone might steal the cameras in East Dulwich, I get a bit nervy in some bits of camberwell on me tod and camera laden. In fact the ED pootle resulted in thre windows, some flowers, a police light, a council vehicle and a woman having a poo Not much architectural splendour other than ant's lovely effort of boarded building
  9. Many a truth told in jest
  10. dans le sac vs scroobius pip offering a free download of "Message from God to Man", good stuff. http://www.myspace.com/lesacvspip "It was You that invented bombs, and the fear that comes with them And it was You that invented money, and the corrupt economic systems You invented terms like just-war and terms like friendly fire And it was You that didn?t know when to stop digging deeper, when to stop building higher It was You that exhausted the resources I carefully laid out on this earth, And it was You that even saw these problems coming but accredited them little worth It was You that used my teachings for your own personal gain And it was You that committed such tragedies, even though they were in my name"
  11. page 6?!?! anyway...Immaculate Machines. Random purchase today in second hand shop. Loved the artwork, strings in the sleeve notes, liked the song titles such as Jarhand, Nothing Ever Happens and C'Mon Sea Legs, so bought it. Turns out the female vocalist's side project is The New Pornographers. Upbeat, clever, catchy laden with hooks. Nice!!! Ooh and found 2 old smog albums too...hurrah!!
  12. Oops typo, I meant the Latt?, the new "arty but unpretentious" cafe on Dovercourt Road.
  13. Plane films Bourne ultimatum: More of the same, but as slick and compelling as ever. Invasion: Pointless remake of bodysnatchers with happy ending - blurgh Shoot 'Em Up: Ultra comic book violence with strangely british script, Clive Owen anti-hero (cool), Paul Giamatti (great bad guy) and Monica Belluci (sigh) Transformers: Predictably dull even by standards of a film based on a toy. Cripes on the love interest mind you.
  14. Herne, Dog, all good suggestions. I'm leaning toward the latter.
  15. Fair dues Keef, hence why were tolerated then asked to leave on our 2 stag do crawl stops there. It is a restaurant really, and a damnably fine one at that. Even my norf london foodies friends doth venture south for Franklins every now and then.
  16. I guess, hence the violence and crime.
  17. More to the point, what would the Palmerston think of us, their pub days are behind them, and we couldn't possibly upset their diners could we.
  18. It's a bit odd the the right wing paper is doing the government line and the left wing one undermining it. Weird. Methinks Murdoch is still still sticking with Brown for the time(s) being.
  19. I guess Major-General Graham Binns was giving a sound bite, he probably would have been happier saying "That was a bit of a sh!tter, glad we're getting the hell out of here, next time give us some decent equipment and enough troops to do the job right, though next time you choose to invade someone illegally and pointlessly, don't" But he's a career to think of.
  20. AS I said *Bob* it's uncomfortable stuff, and as Cuba is my only other example of such a society then perhaps we're to be cursed with poverty, crime, jealousy, racism and hatred while we have the freedoms to express them. Depressing huh?
  21. Yeah, great trip, good to see the lads again, and just nice to have a brief window of warmth and eat tonnes of great food. I wasn't really trying to move the debate away from prohibition, but I guess I saw how the ultimate in nanny states had actually managed to achieve alot, and it was the social cohesion it achieves which troubled me most, as it's what I'm missing most about modern 'me me me' Britain. However i guess what I'm doing is falsely attributing the latter to the former. If anything this state has become much more nannying AND managed to lose social cohesion and mutual respect. Back on topic I by-and-large agree that prohibition really isn't working and anything which takes the power and money out of the hands of illegal criminals - see what I did there ;) - is a good thing, though I don't for a second thing it should be done lightly, and perhaps phased in kicking off with cannabis.
  22. Wahey lively debate. I see both sides, LozzyLoz is right to counter quids' tirade by saying they're all applicable here, too right, but then quids has a point that it is indeed a sterile place that's knocked down its heritage, though there are huge amount of restoration going on in the areas that survived but rotted, such as Joo Chiat, where our own Huguenot now lives. I didn't take to it like a duck to water, but what I sensed there was a buy-in to the social fabric, mutual respect and an absence of intolerance (I avoid saying the word tolerance as people aren't tolerating each other, it just works, the only other place I've witnessed this was Cuba). That said the lack of political freedom does make me very uncomfortable, and the problem with benevolent dictatorship is that it doesn't take an awful lot to turn it into malevolent democracy. Oh, and Goodfellas on TV "Fun your mop you muddy funster" was hilarious!!
  23. Which reminds me, you must have 1 & 2 back. Ping me and I'm sure we can find some time for meetage.
  24. 11 o'clock and still no word as to how it went? My my, must have been a session and a half. I get on a plane in a couple of hours :( !!!!
  25. I normally look for them for 10 minutes only to realise I'm wearing them...doh!!
