  1. Guys - more fool you for judging a book by its cover. It's riddiculous to assume that someone reading the FT is trustworthy. Incidentally, I never touch in on the number 12 because I have a bus pass so please don't assume that everyone who doesn't touch in isn't paying the fare; not everyone is pay-as-you go. I for one will be glad to see the back of the bendy buses - I never feel safe on them.
  2. King Kong falling from the Empire State Building. Really upset me when I was little, EVEN more than Bambi's mother taking a bullet.
  3. Yes Salma is a stunning woman. Definitely ding dong.
  4. And George Clooney was totally hot in that film. Slightly off topic but needs to be said.
  5. It's just a frigging shop! Who cares. So Sydenham has a Waitrose. Good for them. I'm so pleased. I like Sydenham; I have lots of friends there. So if SS is right and the only way ED can get a Waitrose is to get a more upwardly mobile demographic (or words to that effect) then I'd prefer not to have one because I don't want a more upwardly mobile demographic. But what bothers me most about this whole thread is that people really seem to be bothered about it. I don't understand. Personally I use Ocado and I'm very happy. Brendan - if you want to send me your address I'll ship you a Monster Munch care package because I don't like to think of you as being unhappy and going without in Surrey. I wouldn't sleep nights.
  6. I don't answer my front door after dark when I'm alone. Everyone who knows me knows that. Therefore, anyone who knows me will ring me to tell me they are standing on my doorstep and would I answer the door. No phone call, no open door. My house, my rules.
  7. Grease Sandy and Danny got it together. Never saw that coming.
  8. Going back to the in-store Predator. I've been giving it some more thought. In the movie that thing scared me silly but whenever I was queueing at the counter I'd find myself glancing sideways at it and thinking I reckon I could take it. Not that I'm particularly tough or anything, but if I got some good punches in quick. Yup, I could take it.
  9. This is bad - looks like there's been no irrational joy in ED since charliecharlie got herself some total bliss nearly a whole month ago.
  10. Brendan - you don't know an uncomfortable seat if you think Beckenham is bad. For an extra ?2 you can upgrade to a super dooper seat with room for your popcorn and your feet can't even touch the seat in front (OK I guess yours could). Plus, did I mention that there's a Nandos over the road?
  11. So we've established that Beckenham has a Waitrose AND a Nandos AND a brilliant spa/pool. And let's not forget the art deco Odeon on the roundabout. When you think about it we haven't got that much to shout about. But we have the forum though - that's ours.
  12. Louisa, You're assuming that everyone is up to speed on previous Waitrose theads and I, for one, am not. Maybe there's been a whole big Waitrose debate that's simply passed me by. I can't imagine I'm the only one.

  14. Yes to be honest I don't understand the point of the thread. Is there a point? I mean, who really cares? I would welcome a Waitrose because I think they are kinder to the suppliers and a more ethical company to deal with. For the same reason, I'm not so keen on M&S. That said, I think the Co-op has a good reputation with suppliers. So I'm kinda happy then. Is Louisa trying to make a point because I'm not getting it and to be honest I'm bored with all mention of Waitrose on the forum. Waitrose is the new Foxtons.

Beckenham has a Waitrose AND a Nandos. Let's all move there.

  17. Now now Brendan. Or have you been snacking on those Stupid Bars again?
  18. I wonder what will happen to the in-store Predator?
  19. Hi James, Advice please. I applied for planning permission in April for a really simple matter. The planning officer has been round and verbally said yes. I still haven't had anything in writing. The excuse being used is "backlog". My architect won't move without something in writing. It's August and this puts the council in breach of its statutory duty regarding planning (for an application that went in in April). Who's bottom can I kick at the council to get something in the post yesterday? Thanks in advance James. P
  20. Yes I expect your all right (S Mac / K Ford) but the staff were exceptionally lovely people (especially the lady with the cute kids). I hope they all manage to find other jobs.
  21. What like Nandos? p.s. I love Nandos
  22. This is a Hyacinth Bucket thread if ever there was one. And what's wrong with Ocado? Brilliant service.
  23. There's a decent article in today's FT about women dressing for work. "Is low-cut too hot for the office" in the Dear Lucy column on page 12. I found it interesting. Unfortunately, I don't know my way around the FT Online or I would post a link. That's not helpful - sorry.
  24. The river walk that you can do on the south bank from Westminster up to the Tower of London is fantastic and there is so much to see on the way. It goes past the Festival Hall, Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern. Lots of places to stop and eat or have coffee. Spectacular views.
