  1. Count us in. Mine are 2.5 and 1 :)
  2. I'm so glad to hear he is still out and about with the dog as I haven't seen him for ages. He used to frequent Northcross Road and always stopped for a chat, lovely man.
  3. Was lovely to meet some of you today, my two enjoyed themselves and it was nice to put some faces to names. Hope tonight goes well for those of you that make it - I'll do my best to come along to some drinks without the kids next time so I can have a proper conversation!
  4. There's a great shoe repair shop down towards the station - I think it's called Merrifields.
  5. We'd probably get there round 3ish, see you there Lorraine
  6. As it's our local I might try and come along with the Picklings (2.5 and nearly 1). Our first forum drinks - exciting!
  7. Upland Road has a street party every year (the upper end), although I'm yet to make it to one as we always seem to be away on the day it happens. I'm not sure who organises it etc., but am sure someone on here must. From all accounts it's always a really good day.
  8. Brilliant, I love it! I'm in NZ at the moment and it's surprising how many people here have never watched it... I've been trying to find it on Sky to show my parents (although I think the humour may be lost on them!).
  9. Flu with a view, nice ;-)
  10. NZ has now made an anti-flu drug "Tamiflu" available over the counter to anyone showing symptoms of flu. $75. Apparently will only be given to people who the pharmacist deems to be showing genuine flu symptoms, yet they suggest anyone showing flu symptoms should stay at home... Saw face masks being sold for a bargain $2.50 today, but so far haven't seen anyone wearing one. Only a matter of time. In the meantime, 30 people in the region I'm currently staying in have recently been diagnosed with measles, yet that barely warrants a mention in the local paper.
  11. The couple mentioned in other posts are by far my favourite ED characters. Many a time I've been in a shop on LL to have the old man simply walk in, say a cheery hello to everyone, and leave. I love the fact that the shopkeepers on LL seem to know him, and always respond with a smile and a wave. Harmless, friendly, and I bet they have a few great stories to tell.
  12. I'm currently in NZ and took my kids to a music group this morning... the lady at the door said she was surprised to see so many people out "what with this swine flu and everything". NZ media is making a really big deal of it, people seem genuinely scared. Maybe I'm being too relaxed?!
  13. Very very sad news. My thoughts are with her family.
  14. My thoughts exactly... the machines aren't meant for small children, and there are signs stating that. I have small kids, we use the playground - I think it's a shame that the gym equipment is swarming with children as it could be a great facility for people who want to use it properly.
  15. I agree that Sema's is good. We go there often and they are always happy to cook me fresh chips (I like mine crispy, almost burnt!) even when they're busy. I prefer them to Sea Cow, I find Sea Cow can be quite greasy and find it hard to justify the extra cost.
  16. Ah, but does it have a swimming pool *Bob*??
  17. A bargain at a mere ?1m per bedroom! Something tells me that won't sell very quickly. Nice kitchen though!
  18. The funny thing Gordon Brown does with his mouth when he breathes while delivering speeches (apologies if you haven't noticed it before, it will now become really obvious and annoy the hell out of you too!)
  19. When driving, people who swerve onto the wrong side of the road to avoid speed humps, and expect you to stop for them (which I do, otherwise they'd hit me!). Happened so many times this morning driving up past North Dulwich station it was unbelievable (6)
  20. I don't have school age kids, but from what I gather all schools collect them. One of the schools we go to for a playgroup has a collection box in their reception area so I've started dropping mine there. I'm sure if you offered them to a local parent they'd take them to their school on your behalf.
  21. He was directing traffic with a combination of whistling and exaggerated hand signals at the junction of Underhill and Barry Rds yesterday evening (around 6ish), I was a bit worried for him at one point as he kept running out onto Barry Rd in front of cars :'(
  22. We get loads of stag beetles in our garden every year, amazing things. Always quite funny to watch our cat being scared off by them! I haven't seen any bats, to be honest I didn't realise they existed in these parts, so will keep an eye out for them this year. In both the houses we've owned in ED we've had frogs (toads?) in the garden - I'm figuring it must be quite common around here.
  23. >:D< If ever there was an area to be underwhelmed by, that's it. When I first arrived in the UK I actually got off the tube at E&C to have a look around because I thought it sounded really interesting :-$
  24. It certainly already happens on our street - there is often stuff outside houses with a "help yourself" note, and we have also put things out that we no longer need. I've also had a couple of instances of people knocking on the door asking if they can take stuff that I've left out for the council to collect.
  25. A really tasty hot cross bun from the Blackbird Bakery stall on Northcross Road - 50p, big, full of fruit and very nice. Don't tell my Mum, she's got a thing about not eating hot cross buns before Easter!
