  1. Just need to figure out how to convince a baby and a toddler to stay in bed for an extra hour tomorrow?!
  2. Mr Pickle walks to the start of the 40 bus route in the morning, gets a good seat and says he enjoys sitting and reading a book before the work day begins. On the way home he catches a train from London Bridge to Peckham Rye, then a bus up Barry Rd (there's a few options) - much quicker than using ED station. If you were catching the train in the morning I would say Peckham Rye would be the faster option - a shorter walk to catch a bus (unless you're lucky and manage to catch the P13 down Underhill Rd) as you only need to go as far as Barry Road.
  3. I love Peckham Rye Park, and much prefer it to Dulwich. Definitely worth a visit, it's great. You're unlikely to find a band performing, but it's generally a lot quieter and somehow has a more tranquil feel than Dulwich Park.
  4. I got totally disheartened with Sainsbury's home delivery - I found it hard to get a delivery slot that suited me unless I was organised enough to order about a week before I needed it, and got totally sick of deliveries turning up late/not at all/with half my stuff missing. Their best substitution was trout fillets instead of the chicken roast I'd ordered. Someone in the warehouse must have seen the logic in that? I now use Ocado primarily, and Tesco for my large "stock up" shops. Both good, but Ocado definitely stands out in terms of customer service.
  5. Yes, they definitely do... I asked them yesterday when I was in there
  6. I agree that by that age they should know better (or maybe I'm just living in hope that my kids will be well behaved at that age). Part of me feels sorry for kids that are with an au pair/nanny in the weekend... maybe the parents work weekends, but for our family weekends are time for the kids to spend time with parents, not carers. Maybe the kids were playing up because they would rather have been with Mum/Dad than in a shoe shop with the au pair?
  7. I think the original signs said it would be within 6 months of January 2008 which passed without any sign of completion, but I notice that they've now changed it to 9 months... so possibly by the end of the month. Not sure how you'd find out for sure.
  8. I heard it too, couldn't figure out what direction it was coming from though! Seems to be quiet now thankfully
  9. I love the view from the top of Upland Road/Dunstans Road. I'm often out for a walk late afternoon and it's really quiet, especially at the top of Dunstans Road - I used to work amongst the chaos of Canary Wharf and I love the fact that I can see it yet am surrounded by silence! And also the view as you turn into Barry Road at the Peckham Rye end, fabulous.
  10. ... and PM me if you fancy a game!
  11. Try this link: http://apps.facebook.com/livescrabble/
  12. My addiction was cured for all of 5 minutes until I found Scrabble (the actual licensed version) on Facebook. In some ways even better than Scrabulous, worth a look (the actual application is called "Scrabble Worldwide").
  13. Just googled the Jonas brothers, worryingly I find them quite attractive given that I am also old enough to be their Mum :-$ LuvPeckham - let us know how she gets on. Reminds me of me at that age... I would have done anything to meet Morten Harket! In fact I'd still quite like to meet him! Didn't like his music, just fancied him.
  14. Stephen King's "Pet Sematary" for me... first saw it as a young teenager at a friend's birthday party. And even though it's not really all that scary to most people, "Arachnophobia" is another one that terrified me!
  15. I was watching it fully expecting them to get eaten!!
  16. Couldn't agree more! And I hate the way you have to sign up for a whole term at most of them, quite unrealistic when you've got small children as there are so many reasons why you may not be able to attend - in which case you're throwing away money. I went to a taster session of one of the groups you mention above, and found it was really stuffy with far too many rules and regulations to realistically be any fun for a toddler. I've been going to a great music class for over a year now with my oldest child. It's called "Ruby Rhymes", and is at the church at the top of Red Post Hill - not ED, but pretty close by. You don't have to sign up for a term, just turn up when you can, it's ?5 a session, and she doesn't use a CD. She plays guitar, sings a mixture of traditional and original songs and has a good selection of instruments for the kids. It caters for young babies through to school age kids.

I meant to watch it, but completely forgot. Just had a look on Sky and can't see it listed - has it finished now?
  18. Have you considered joining one of the local running clubs? I was a member of Dulwich Park Runners when I was training for the marathon - between all the members they had loads of great routes, ranging from short runs right up to my final 22 mile training run before the race. I used to do my weekly long run with other club members which was great fun, and easier than going it alone (I did an 18 miler alone and almost lost the will to live!). It's been a few years since I trained properly, so unfortunately my memory of the good longer routes has gone! But I'm sure there are other runners on this forum that will have some good ones for you.
  19. He put holes in my leather belt for free too! Really nice guy, very helpful.
  20. Definitely seem to be a lot more planes at the moment going directly overhead. Long may it last, they keep my toddler entertained for hours!
  21. >:D< ... actually he's silver!
  22. There's a great black cabbie lives on Underhill Road - John. We use him every time we need to go to Heathrow, and often for other smaller jobs. We also book him when we return from holidays and he meets us at the airport - very handy when you've got small children in tow. He's extremely reliable, and a nice guy. His number is 07956 481 142. Solves the problem of them not wanting to come out this way when they already live here!
  23. I remain addicted to their chocolate brownies, might have to seek help!
  24. Thanks Uplander, I can sleep easy knowing the full story! I saw the guy walking round the corner and assumed he was something to do with it as he was standing chatting to the police for a while. We must be almost neighbours!
  25. We had water all day yesterday (Upland Rd), but the pressure was reduced. I wonder why some homes had none at all? Seems completely fine today.
