  1. There are some lovely big houses on Colyton Rd that I would love to look inside, one in particular that's been refurbished recently - I see them daily as I walk into Peckham Rye Park. Also the big detached place opposite the Herne, although not sure about the location. There are some gorgeous houses in Dulwich Village, but I much prefer living in ED!
  2. I love the pie van on Northcross Rd - even better the lady that runs it is from NZ, so the pies and sausage rolls are just like the ones I had growing up. Northcross Rd does my waistline no favours on a Saturday - cakes from the Blackbird Bakery stall, fudge from the "fudge lady" and pies!
  3. There was a lone man putting posts in the ground round the edge of the playground yesterday, but certainly didn't look much much (if any) progress had been made on the large structures in the centre of the area. I noticed the sign advertising table tennis etc... hardly activities you'd expect to do at an "adventure" playground!
  4. Fascinating info, I'm from New Zealand so will be sure to go and visit the graves. Interesting thread, thanks all
  5. Yes, they do... I noticed a sign outside today advertising 2 for 1 deals on pizza certain nights of the week (can't remember which nights though, sorry).
  6. I agree with TJS, always use Chelsea bridge, seems to be the quicker route.
  7. My bridesmaid wore green (totally coincidental, I'm not a saddo honest)! I'm from NZ and Mr Pickle is Scottish, we didn't even think about the fact that it was St Patrick's day when we booked our wedding, but at least we get plenty of warning that our anniversary is about to happen when all the pubs start putting up their boards advertising the celebrations... no excuses for forgetting!
  8. On St Patrick's day 3 years ago I wore a wedding dress :))
  9. Wardy, I've really enjoyed reading both of your chapters, and hope you'll post more of them when you get a chance :)
  10. andy&kez, I know what you mean. There have been other shootings on Barry Road and in the area in the time I've lived in ED, but they've never really got to me as much as this one, and I think it's because I now have young children. It's definitely made me stop and think, and my condolences are with the young guy's family. No matter whether he had gang connections, whatever, at the end of the day he was a young man, and nobody should die in the way he did. I had to walk down that way today with my kids and seeing where it all happened really bought the reality of it home for me.
  11. I'm fairly sure you can halt it (if not reverse it) by adopting a healthy eating and exercise regime - certainly losing weight will help if you're currently carrying a bit of excess weight. I had a client a few years ago who had early signs of diabetes and she had been told to come to my classes by her doctor as a way to help (I used to run weight loss classes). Might be worth getting a referral to a nutritionist or similar to get some good advice on what you should & shouldn't be eating. Good luck.

    Wormery

You can get a wormery for ?10 through the council... we got one a couple of years ago but it wasn't a success - the worms didn't seem able to cope with the quantity of kitchen waste we had, everything went mouldy, then the worms died :'(
  13. Never date a man who spends longer getting ready in the morning than you do
  14. I'm a Mum with two small children (toddler and baby), and agree with you completely. Horrible, especially as I know how foul toddler's nappies can be!!
  15. Oh I dunno... a nice Carhartt one from ED maybe?
  16. Is Magic uncool. If so, yes, I'm uncooler than you Buggie :-$
  17. Louisa, that's a shame. We've been lucky where we are - had a regular postie who retired (he was brilliant), followed by a few weeks with various temps who were hopeless (seemed to adopt a time saving method which involved dropping all my neighbours mail through my door so that I had to deliver it!). But we've had our new regular postie for a few months now and he is excellent.
  18. I agree it's so sad, and as crass as her life in the public eye is/has been in the past, I do feel she's doing a good job of raising awareness of cancer amongst a group who maybe would have felt themselves to be immune. All that aside, I can't imagine how heart breaking it must be for her, and her family. Her sons are so young, and shouldn't be faced with such a horrible thing at their age. I do hope she takes a step back from the cameras over the coming weeks/months.
  19. I've just received post for the 3rd day running. The postman rang the bell as there were a couple of parcels, he's our regular postie and always says a cheery hello if I pass him on the street when out and about during the day. I sympathised with him negotiating his way along our street in the ice and said it was much appreciated that our post was getting through. He thanked me, before going on to say that he wished everyone was as appreciative, as he's been subjected to people moaning at him today because their post is slightly later than usual! So here's a big thanks to our lovely postie, doing a great job as always! (tu) I don't know his name, but he does Upland Road, near Goodrich.
  20. I'm near Goodrich School, and our post came this morning just after 9.
  21. TJ, I agree completely. Seems to be full of lots of nice toiletry gift ideas for your gran, but lacking in a lot of the basics that you'd expect from a pharmacy. It's such a good space in a great location, I hope they can save it but I think they'd do well to have a rethink about stock.
  22. My milkman bravely made his way to my door today too (also with 2 days worth of milk, maybe we've got the same milkman!). Poor guy looked frozen, but still managed a cheerful chat before trudging on his way (being pelted with snowballs by my neighbours kids!). I saw an Ocado van driving down my road at about 10am, so there are some vans out.
  23. Here's our effort (he's now pretty much covered by the new snow that's fallen!) Edited lots of times cause I keep breaking the thread when trying to embed my image directly into it!
  24. That's dedication from Mr Mellors! Hope he gets home safely this evening.
  25. Mr Pickle has just returned from a walk to Peckham Rye station (half hearted attempt to get to work), to find no trains running and staff at the station saying it's unlikely any will be running for a while yet.
