  1. Torn on this. On one hand, it is essentially theft when done on purpose. But there are many incidents where 'evasion' is accidental or due to faulty equipment or lack of facilities. But aren't you given the opportunity to pay the fine and it goes no further? Doesn't it only go to court if you don't pay the fine? But, it doesn't matter anyway as your petition seems to have been withdrawn.
  2. 11pm with no lights and a child on the back? Is there nothing that a cyclist can do that would be classed as 'wrong' by some people? I think I going to go into t-shirt production. Every cyclist should have one.
  3. Tell me about it, KK. Must. Not. Post.

I do both in our household. Care to post the names of these products so us guys can boycott them?
  5. We could really have a "Stupid Comment Pieces in the Guardian" thread. This one last week was a classic... http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jul/20/is-it-ok-to-buy-coffee-from-an-independent As someone in the comments said, "I think we have now reached peak Guardian."

That is one long summary. Can anyone summarise the summary?
  7. I think they're ahead of you, Jeremy - 'Dick' is not available.
  8. Nope - the ticket system on the bus prints out a list of the last 4 digits plus expiry date of all cards processed. The inspector will check your card against that list.
  9. Whoa there, henryb. Chuggingtons? That's fighting talk around here.
  10. I think I remember reading somewhere that one contributor got about ?90 for their article. I suspect the payment depends on the author.

Another good article in the Gruin, this time from a guy with both Palestinian and Israeli passports. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/24/israelis-palestinians-losers-conflict-suffering-rights
  12. Or you can use any contactless card and get the Oyster price. I don't think you can get capping, though.
  13. There are supposedly quite a few available, though I've not seen any of the more unusual. http://www.shareacoke.com
  14. Yesterday is history Tomorrow is a mystery But today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
  15. Ha - that's the best rubbish article since they commissioned someone to write 500 words on how Compare the Meerkats was a shocking piece of racism. ETA: I found the Meerkat article. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2009/aug/22/advertising-racism-meerkats

That's a very different thing. Which ties in with his rather excellent quote: "If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all."

Not that it matters - you are all figments of my imagination anyway.

  20. Twitter comment: The Olympics gets Danny Boyle The commonwealth games gets Susan Boyle. Personally I watched about five minutes - which happened to include Subo forgetting the first line of Mull of Kintyre.

Another friend's dreadful attempt - he was from Wigan, so imagining the accent helps. He walked up to a fairly large chested girl in the pub, pointed straight at her chest and said, "'Eck - I bet you din't get many of them to tha' pound". She wasn't impressed.
