  1. Given the number of people complaining about BTLers, taxing home owner-occupiers and big tax advantages for landlords will cause a riot, SJ.

German banks, for instance, are rarely permitted to lend more than 80 percent of the value of a property, thus a would-be home buyer first needs to accumulate a deposit of at least 20 percent. To cap it all, ownership of a home is subject to a serious consumption tax, while landlords are encouraged by favorable tax treatment to maximize the availability of rental properties. I can see that going down well...
  5. Use the URL tag... [ur1=http://blah.com]Text explaining the link[/ur1] Which looks like Text explaining the link (don't copy/paste that - I used a number 1 instead of an 'L' to stop the forum software converting it.)
  6. Oh, yes. LM. I've been known to take buses for one stop post cap... because I can and it's free.
  7. In Vienna, all the pretentious shops have English names.
  8. If not, he/she must have been very pleasantly surprised. (Assuming the baseline is Sly and Reggie)

My dad was in a wheelchair and we had a blue badge for him. We had parked the car and gone into a shopping centre, but came out a different door. So, I left dad with mum, and walked back around and moved the car to the new door, parked in the disabled bay (as we are allowed) and went inside to fetch him. Halfway across the footpath I suddenly figured, "if anyone is watching this..."
  13. With the Aussies going out early, it's nice of England to cheer me up a little with that inept performance.
  14. I've had wildly varying experiences within the same solicitors. The conveyancer I had for a failed sale was OK, competent but nothing great. When I lined up another sale, I went back to the same company and got one of the most useless individuals ever. Fortunately, she left the company and she was replaced by someone who was a bit slow, but very, very diligent and her work saved the sale after some last minute complications. I think all conveyancers have a big workload shoved onto them, which is why they take ages to respond to any emails. I've also used one of those cheapie on-line companies for a reasonably simple mortgage change. They did the job, but they work on job queue system, so you get a different person every time you contact them. You get no single point of contact to work with, which is not good.
  15. So Amy Lame didn't get the gig then. There's a surprise.

    Kate Bush

I still think that the Wuthering Heights video shows that she was marvellously the right side of completely barking. You just can't imagine a record company today producing this video.
  17. Ha - Moxtons. An even fishier version of Foxtons!
  18. On that note, the Climate Conferences where people all fly to. Shouldn't they be leading the way with viseoconferencing?

    "Royal Mail"

With the name, I don't believe the Royal Bank of Scotland (when it was private) or the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) do, so probably not. The image is a bit more complex. Decent comment on the subject at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/sorry-maam-but-royal-mail-selloff-means-no-more-crowning-glory-8857579.html

  23. So with you on that one Louise. And the conductors/ticket people do sod all about it. Mind you, on First Great Western they blast stupid announcements about the buffet car into the quiet carriage after EVERY station, complete with the ultra-annoying 'bing-bing-BONG' at the start and end.
  24. ultraburner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Nothing "cosmic" about being sad at an old lady > being hit by a car loz, so spare your awwwing. Being sad is understandable and commendable. But you weren't saying that, were you? You were saying it was all someone else's fault based on... ermm, absolutely no evidence whatsoever. Just your own magical belief that little old ladies could never, ever be responsible for such a thing. Bit of a difference, isn't it?
  25. Do you write for Sly and Reggie in your spare time, by any chance?
