  1. More likely to be "Levels" by Avicii, which sampled Etta James' version.
  2. Errm. Yes. obviously. It's the context of how warnings on what is perceived as suspicious behaviour are posted to this forum. Yes, we could have got people of various genders, ages and races to wheel bicycles needlessly up people paths, going though bins, jiggle locks/doorhandles, etc, etc, and gauge if they were reported on the forum. I sure it would make a great sociological experiment. But that hasn't happened, has it? But we do have the context of the other 'suspicious people' reports made this year and that does show all manner of genders, ages and races are cropping up. Calling the OP a racist because, in this single case, it happened to be someone of a certain age/gender/race doing something unexpected is, frankly, a bit out of order.
  3. No, I admit that such prejudices exist. I think that is pretty much undeniable. It's just I do not believe this is an example of that, when you take into context all the other (many) warnings on here.
  4. Which group in particular, RPC? The one that pictures women eating, men sitting with their legs "too far apart" or the one where women and gay men post pictures of men they find sexually attractive?
  5. ?800k including a flat? Am I completely in the dark on business property, or is this a bargain for ED?
  6. Er, yeah. Let's divide this up with non-gender words: 1) Photos of people eating 2) Photos of people's crotches. Which is creepier?
  7. But I saw that article before, numbers, as I read the Gruin. And it's no creepier (in fact, slightly less) than this... http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/22/men-legs-splayed-on-train
  8. I'd love to know how much of a "Streisand Effect" that Guardian article had on that Facebook group.
  9. The problem, charlesfare, is you are looking at one thread. Check out these: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1116067,1116503 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1287419,1288969 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1267030,1269786 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1234757,1252324 (ok, this is one white guy and one black guy) People are forever posting warnings on here about suspicious people of all races and both sexes. You are seeing racism where there is none.
  10. Oh, and I had a kid in my ski group called Korbinian. Took me all week to pronounce his name correctly.

  12. No - two cheese knives are best for that very problem.

If you were out and picked up ladies called Brie and Chardonnay you could have the best wine and cheese night ever.
  14. I think you've confused 'socialist' with 'sociopath'.
  15. No, no. Unlurked wants James Barber to run around and do stuff for him, just so he can abuse him afterwards.
  16. PokerTime Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The issue is that a few people are profitting from property portfolios they were > allowed to acquire with NO capital investment and are charging high rents to cover the mortgage on > those rental properties. That's not quite right - the market decides the maximum rent, not the landlord.
  17. Going off the kids name subject a little (I blame LN), but when working in Berlin there was a Herr Titz working in the office. This was not helped by the fact that Germans tend to answer the phone with just their surname.
  18. I think this sudden demand in ED has very little to do with BTL anyway. It's not a good time to enter the market. As someone pointed out above, a 500k property (i.e. 2 bed) would need a monthly rental of ?2500 to get a decent yield to make it a worthwhile investment. Ain't gonna happen. You'd be lucky to 1500/1600 at the moment. Something is driving the prices in ED, but I doubt it is BTL.
  19. charlesfare Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > hahaah the way people bend over backwards to > defend racist bullshit is astounding sometimes. Would you like to quote any racism? There was one rather unacceptable comment, but that was, rightly, deleted. Also, if you think a comment is racist, then the 'Report this Message' button is there for your use.

People misunderstand rent control in Germany. The only control is the control over rises after you begin the tenancy - there are no controls over the initial rent. Austria has a similar system and private rents for a small two bed flat in Vienna start at about 1000 euros a month. Cheaper than London, but not amazingly so. Mind you, Vienna has a lot of social housing.

The Leader of the Opposition in Australia, back in the days when Bob Hawke was PM, was called Andrew Peacock. Fortunately for him, no one spotted that joke at the time.

  23. Actually, check around all of them, find the best deal then go through Quidco and get the ?50+ commission yourself.
  24. My sister swears blind there was a kid in the school she used to teach at called Ophelia Dick.
  25. True, but the 'I MUST OWN A HOUSE' mentality is too deeply embedded here. Maybe when they do become too expensive the mentality will change to a German-style rental-is-OK approach. But I believe you used to have more assured tenancies here (back in the 70s??), but they were dumped as they were discouraging the rental market (from a landlord's perspective).
