Go there now, Selma, and you can park wherever you damn well like. -

Thread of merged messages about incidents outside ED
Loz replied to Administrator's topic in The Lounge
OK - A quick Twitter summary (so treat with usual caution): - ED, Camberwell, Sydenham, Penge, Putney, Richmond - all shut down but no sign of trouble - McDonalds in Camberwell was never on fire - False rumour starting that Kings is evacuating - Plenty of police but nothing happening on Walworth Road -

I have just walked up and can confirm Sainburys DKH has closed. My wife has just returned from the hairdressers and all ED businesses have been advised to shut. -

Sorry Josie, but you are trying to redefine the word 'poor'. Inequality is not the same as poverty and being poor. Why do social commentators do that? Did they all sit down and decide that 'inequality' was not a strong enough concept and so they felt they had to hijack the word 'poverty'. Sudan has poverty. India has poverty.

There was an unconfirmed (and I think debunked) report about Sainburys DKH on another thread and someone opposite the Plough said the Local was fine.

Is it my imagination or are most of the riots/looting centred around branches of JJB Sports?

whibel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There is a context to London's riots that can't be ignored > http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/08/context-london-riots Honestly, really and truly just f-off with the sodding hug-a-hoodie context. Just send in the damn army if there are not enough cops. The little twunts that robbed and smashed windows in LL didn't do it because of any social context - they did it because they knew the police are stretched to the limit and they can get away with it. Take your socks and sandals somewhere else.

According to Twitter it is the ED Road branch.

Fabricio the Guido Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > WELL bankers take their money out of a country or > downgrade the USA's credit rating ... I hate to spoil a good rant, but bankers don't actually do the credit ratings. 'Credit Rating Agencies' do. (And, no, credit agencies are not bankers. Unless you have a weird definition of 'banker') > ... and the yoof, what have they got? Admittedly not a lot, which is why looting and burning you own backyard seems a little counter productive. As my Dad would say, "S**tting in your own nest".

LadyDeliah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The under-educated and societally disconnected > youths who went to the police station for answers > on Saturday have expressed their resentment > differently. I think you need to do a bit of separation here. There was a protest on Saturday afternoon by friends and family of Mark Duggan who, quite justifiably in my opinion, wanted some answers to some pretty valid questions. Then came the bandwagon jumpers on Saturday night. I'm guessing that most of them had never met, nor knew of, the dead man.

LadyDeliah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why would the bullet be police issue if Duggan > supposedly shot the cop? You are jumping to conclusions, based on scant evidence. The bullet is a hollow point. They are used by police, but not exclusively. They do not know, as yet, which gun it came from.

And "Cycling Serial Killers", of course.

Ha ha. More like people who live a mile or so from the station and are too lazy to walk.
