bus lane between East Dulwich station and Sainsburys
Loz replied to duffy10's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
... which is another reason why it would be better all round to allow the left-hand turners to use the entire length of the lane. -
I assume all the shops boarded up, even the veggie shops. It wasn't so much looting, but that they seems to like smashing windows and setting fire to things. I doubt anyone made off with a three-piece suite before torching that furniture store in Croydon.

I am *loving* GreenMediaC's tweet...

No Sign = 24/7 apparently. According to the rules: Gulp. My approach is the same as ratty's. -
Are you one of the million? (Facebook london met support page)

Considering the ones he didn't disassociate himself from, how was was the *Junglebook* tweet? First I've heard of it. Interestingly, one of the White Supremacist groups was posting furiously on the group page on Monday night. At the time I just assumed they were making the most of an open thread with lots of passing people... -

To be fair, the MPs did have to pay their dodgy expenses back. More of them could have been sent to prison, though.

Just about everything, Jonathon. It carefully avoids any indication of how much the units cost. I wonder why?

bus lane between East Dulwich station and Sainsburys
Loz replied to duffy10's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is a bit silly. It should be a bus lane and left hand turn lane for the entire (20m?) stretch. I suspect it complies with some legislation about bus lanes somewhere and can't change. -

The Met were very poor in contacting the family - they've admitted as such. The family deserved some answers to some quite reasonable questions. They are not to blame for the riots.

parent and child spaces in sainsbury's car park

Commendable defence, but frankly her post was on par with the rather funny Ocado post elsewhere, but without the irony. Besides, the (long running) thread is interesting. It was an interesting debate on the validity of providing P&C places. > *Thinks again* > > Why on earth is this thread in the "General" > section rather than "Family Discussion"? As I said, it was a good debate and deserved a wider audience. Having it the Family Room would just end up wallowing in justification via self-interest. -
edresi10 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wonder if teh Notting Hill Carnival can possibly > go ahead this year? I thought about that the other day. Given it is already the event that needs the most number of police in the UK, my bet is that the Met will cancel it.

camberwell70 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Maybe some of them do work. From the reports coming out of the courts, quite a few did. So far a graphic designer, a youth worker, a British Army applicant, and a 14-year-old schoolboy accused of looting a mobile-phone shop have been charged. Now they'll have a criminal record. That's their lives royally screwed.

On the other hand, complaining that someone put a tent up covering a few special spaces (given that the rest of a very big car park was also available to them) seemed to plumb new depths of triviality. -
Also, from the Guardian: "Mark Duggan was a member of the Star gang. Made up of less than 10 members, it had a notorious reputation for being armed, dealing Class A drugs and intent on making money. It was affiliated to larger, older gangs in the area known as the Tottenham Man Dem or the Farm Boys, with around 30 members each from different generations."

My bet for tomorrow's foaming rant: "Why are we spending money on overseas aid, when we could be using it to put bobbies on the beat?".

I can imagine disabled badges being able to use the P&C places, but I'd be appalled if the reverse was the case. -
police in east dulwich (or "some kids detained on Grove Vale")
Loz replied to sebadoh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You are, of course, correct and there are always some that will criticise the police no matter what (as northlondoner's posts demonstrate). But I think the police have picked their battles poorly in the past, going in hard at relatively peaceful demonstrations and kettling innocent by-standers, then finding themselves hamstrung when trouble really kicks off. As a liberal myself, I agree fully with SJ - had the police gone in hard this time around, I would be applauding, not condemning them. But whatever, I sure as hell applaud them anyway, just for having the balls to be out there. -
