  1. Sometimes you have to laugh... Back in March, the Sun laid into a few members of the judiciary, berating them for being too soft. The campaign was called 'The Sun Says No To Soft Justice'. One of the judges targeted was... a Lord Justice Brian Leveson. Let's hope he can show the Sun how hard he can come down on criminals, mainly by chucking a few of them in jail.

  4. Isn't it based on the highest number David learnt at school?
  5. Tsk, *Bob*. You need to go back and rewatch.
  6. That's back when he was seventeen, going on eighteen.

  8. Oy - hands off Rolf. The man's a legend. You should be happy Australia lent you him for so long. For evidence... this is the funniest thing I have heard in ages... Rolf covering I Touch Myself

  10. What'll we get in return for Allfornun/TT3/sagatel/georgegarrett? They might send us Pauline Hanson.
  11. Erm... the 345 doesn't go to ED.
  12. Well, colourbond fencing (and, not to forget, colourbond garage rollerdoors) are as Aussie as a gum tree, so I'll grant you that one. And leather sofas in Aussie heat is a bad idea. It did takes us a while to work that one out. I fell asleep on a leather sofa once - nearly drowned in my own sweat.
  13. The naturally produced heat of the composting process kills most seeds.

  15. I was about to say there was an HSS in Camberwell too, but it seems to have disappeared off the HSS site.
  16. Cameron seems to be curiously floundering on this one. He's usually up front leading on stuff like this, especially when public opinion is so united. But he seems to be dodging the limelight at every opportunity. Labour and the Lib Dems seem to be taking the reins here. It'll be interesting if Labour word their BSkyB motion in a way that the Lib Dems and some Tories can support it.
  17. Squatting should be criminalised. Full stop. Easy. No brainer, really. The long term empty buildings issue is a bit harder, but one I have some sympathy for. But whatever the solution is, it must be controlled by councils. Councils should be able to identify long-term empty buildings and through a legal process be granted a lease to use by the court. This process would involve an attempt to contact the owner. But what do you do with the building then? Let's take an example - the old Thai Pavillion on Melbourne Grove, closed now for about 10 years. Who is going to take on the cost of turning into somewhere habitable? And, when returned to the owner, make good the changes, as it supposed to be a restaurant. The only other way would be some sort of compulsory purchase scheme. But that takes money as well.
  18. ... or Cornea is trying to buy a property in the area and is trying to get rid of competition and drive the price down. Sneaky.
  19. I live on Abbotswood Road rather than Burrow Road, so can't comment on the lane running down the side of the football club... but "kids riding and burning stolen motorbikes will leave your 2am slumber in tatters too.". Pfffft. Come off it. You are making it up. There is a noticeable lack of burnt out bikes round here for that to be true.

  21. Kindle pretty much *is* a library. I just checked and there are currently 19,407 free titles available, including most of the classics like Dickens, Swift, Austin, etc. Plus you can access other free libraries with a bit of conversion.
  22. Did you see that idiot ex-journo on newsnight the other night, when Steve Coogan laid into him? He actually tried to defend hacking into people's phones.
  23. I think the Gruniad is the best paper in the UK, even if it does spend a lot of its time wallowing in its own bizarre moral indignation. The bigoted nature of some of their columnists (sometimes offensively so) is thankfully more than balanced by their news coverage and they high quality of the less indulgent columnists.

I corected the puctuation. Speling is eckstra.
  25. Well, that's probably because the Americans don't like big government, even the Democrats. So they've gone with a private solution with enough public oversight to haul it in if need be. Not the way I'd do it, but it seems to work.
