    a joke

I think that one lost something in the translation...
  2. Given how uncomfortably close Dave Cameron is to both Coulson and Wade/Brooks, how close are we to having Prime Minister Clegg?

The box junction law is a lot more complex than 'you are not allowed to stop in a yellow box'. The highway code says: So, you can enter and stop in the box if you are turning right. Also, the highway code and the actual law don't exactly match up. The law says: There are technicalities in the law that aren't in the highway code contained in the phrase: "the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles". This has led to a defence where if you stop behind due to a stationary car, but the other lane is clear you have therefore chosen to stop (as you could have escaped if you had wanted to). It also means that if you stop for pedestrians you should appeal as well. Also, the offence is at the time you enter the box, so if conditions change while you are in the box then you should appeal as well. There are a lot of loopholes in the law that many councils ignore and just send out contravention notices to anyone that stops in a yellow box. Another example that supports my long held view that illegitimately issued tickets should be punished by the council having to pay the amount of the fine to the person involved.

Given the ringfencing of the proceeds, that's probably not true either.
  5. According to the Standard three school girls did it all on their own.
  6. Especially as they are now investigating the Soham murders for evidence of the same sicko behaviour.

What does the Sixth Sense and Titanic have in common? Icy dead people.

I'm a corporate c..nut then, cos it's the standard issue mobile in our gaff. No choice. Actually, it's not so bad now they are the 'cheap' option and loads of non-corporate people have them. I think an iPhone makes you look a bigger twunt, as this video demonstrates...
  9. You don't need a doll to explain "she punched me in the face..."
  10. I'm boycotting boycotts. I blame Geoff Boycott.
  11. PGC, It wasn't me. It may have been a very dodgy private investigator that can be traced back to me very easily. But not me. No sirree...
  12. There are some nice new features, I grant you moos, but everything has moved to non-intuitive places. When you deal with something new, you expect a learning curve, but two years later I am STILL looking up the help section just to find out where they've hidden some function. And don't get me started on how complicated they've made macro writing.

Idiots. After two years of using Excel 2007 I STILL CAN'T FIND ANY BLOODY THING WHEN I NEED IT!!! And breathe...

There's one near Waterloo station that will happily trot past you in the tunnels like you weren't there. It passed about 2 feet away from me.
  15. HTC Desire S (not the older Desire, it can't run the new OS) and the cheaper HTC Wildfire S (again, not the older one as it has a low-quality screen). Many friends of mine have the HTC Desire and love it. Now if someone can just explain to me the ins and outs of contracts. I've been looking into them for the missus and comparing them seems intentionally difficult, coupled with the sheer number of shysters out there. You notice a good deal and then find email and data are extra - like you'd want a 3G phone without data or email. Anyone got a good deal they'd recommend for a low-use user?
  16. .. and as soon as you move to Android your evolution will be complete. Blackberries have their use. Email is terrific and the corporate control is what companies want. iPhone is very good, but it is an Apple locked down product and you may only do what Apple say you can do (c.f. Flash). Android is an iPhone untethered.

I know James can get a little party political at times, but in general he is a very big force for good around here. That sort of tiresome political posturing, however, is just a cheap shot and not much use to anyone. And, AFAIK, you don't have the mitigation of actually being useful to the general community, puzzled.

  20. Just found the same model for a touch under ?520 on Dabs. That Insight deal is a bargain.
  21. A Tosh with Intel Dual core, 3GB RAM, 320GB disk and wireless support. Nice choice, acm. That'll do PR nicely. No Bluetooth, but you can pick up a dongle for a tenner if that's needed. PS I think the pink thing was a joke.
  22. The Drawing Room is for weightier matters. The News of the Screws, by very definition, doesn't count.
  23. I can assure you I have been boycotting the NOTW for ... well, ever. Mainly because it is crap.
