I have a freezer full of home cooked plant-based meals, plus three ring binders of recipes :)) Though I am no longer strictly vegan, as the vegan diet I was on gave me digestive problems :( ETA: Oh and I do occasionally eat fish.

DulwichFox, I am comparing prices :) If you don't want to look at prices per kilo, I gave you a price (above) of ?1.28 per 100g at Real Foods. In any case, many people would buy a kilo and split it with friends. I know lots of people who do that with various "whole foods" online. Your original post seemed to be solely to have a pop at the local traders in Bellenden Road, and by implication the people who shop there. Yet you haven't actually told us what the price of fresh turmeric is at any of the shops in Bellenden Road, for example the shop which has lots of very good quality vegetables outside (assuming it sells it). I have no idea why you posted it on this thread, where turmeric has to the best of my knowledge never been mentioned, fresh or otherwise :)) probably because most people don't eat turmeric as part of a plant-based diet :)) Oh, and obviously anything frozen is "no longer fresh" when defrosted. But frozen peas, for example, are better than fresh peas (unless you have cooked them straight from picking them yourself) because peas, like many vegetables, lose their nutritional value very quickly after they have been picked. According to this: https://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-queries/can-you-freeze-fresh-turmeric-root-and-for-how-long the freezing process preserves most of the turmeric root's nutritive qualities, as you would expect, so I'm not sure what your point is? And just to add, shopping in Bellenden Road is supporting local traders. If you don't like the prices (assuming you actually know what they are) then nobody is forcing you to shop there :)) Shopping in Sainsbury's is supporting a massive chain.

I use both Sainsbury's and Tesco depending on what I need and who has what on offer, plus sometimes Iceland. So what? I now get a lot at once, rather than shopping weekly, because Tesco's delivery charges have rocketed. Not of perishable things obviously. Luckily I have space to store it.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No its not per kilo.... > > FRESH TURMERIC ROOTS 100g > > Price: ?5.81 (?58.10 / kg) & FREE Delivery > > Foxy I have edited my post above. Sainsbury's is ?15 a kilo. Amazon is ?58 a kilo. Here is ?12.75 a kilo: https://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/21503/organic-fresh-turmeric ETA: If you think it is ?8 for 100g in Bellenden Road- which would be ?80 a kilo, which obviously nobody with any sense would pay - how about providing some evidence? ETA: Organic Village sell it. I have bought it there in the past. I can't remember how much it was. And as Malumbu said, there are probably loads of other shops in Peckham and elsewhere around here which sell it, but I'm not going out much at the moment, for obvious reasons.

You can get it online for less than that. For example: https://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/21503/organic-fresh-turmeric ?12.75 a kilo, or ?1.28 per ?100. The Amazon price you quoted is ?58.10 a kilo!!!!

It's appalling, isn't it. And that contractor is presumably going from house to house (as was the Tesco delivery person). What's wrong with these people? And surely Southwark Council must have some rules which its contractors should be adhering to? No wonder the virus is getting out of hand.

You are paying for the unnecessary packaging. BTW people add turmeric to food for health reasons, not because they are on a plant-based diet :)

I'm also in a vulnerable group, but they should be treating everybody the same, regardless, given the seriousness of the present situation, surely? I reluctantly decided to make a complaint, because I think this is quite a serious issue, if Tesco are not training their staff during a pandemic which is getting worse.

I just had a Tesco delivery. I had four or five crates full of stuff which came without bags, so that I had to put it all into my own bags at the door. The crates were too heavy to carry into the house and unpack them there. The delivery person just stood there, next to the crates, practically breathing into my face, without a mask, whilst I did this. Except he didn't do that for very long, because I had to ask him to stand further away once it became clear that he wasn't going to do that of his own accord. I've never had to do that before, and it was a bit embarrassing. Surely Tesco must have rules, and surely they must train their staff? I haven't had the same issue with Sainsbury's - they have stood at the gate and only come closer to take the empty crates away. Has anybody else had this, or was I just unlucky?

But obviously Covid won't have helped, plus we've just gone through the holiday season. There has been a lot of previous discussion about it on here, I seem to recall, but I can't now remember what it said. I do remember that at one point my then postie said to me something along the lines of "You don't know the half of what's happening down there" (ie at the Peckham office).

Many departments text as well as sending a letter. I've had the same happen, but luckily I had also been sent a text. I don't know why they don't all do it, even my hairdresser reminds me when I have an appointment due!

Pavement repairs on Ulverscroft road
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They'll be finished before they even started at this rate. Like something out of Tenet 🤣 -
intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's bad . Closing the Sylvester Road delivery office caused the problem. Nothing we can do now. Some of us - and Helen Hayes - tried to do something at the time, but all water under the bridge now.

I am receiving multiple duplicate texts today from the same person. Apparently this can be due to intermittent connection issues at either the sender or receiver's end. Just wondering if anyone else has had this today? I'm with iD, which uses Three, and I've never had any problems before. She is with a provider using EE (I think there have been EE problems round here? But she doesn't live in East Dulwich).

Perhaps it's art 🤣 But if they want to plant trees, which I'm all in favour of, couldn't they do it on the area/s behind the fence where people throw rubbish? (or did, I haven't been up there since lockdown).

Saw it, didn't follow it, read the below, still don't know what the hell happened 🤣🤣🤣 I still enjoyed it, though 🤣 We saw it up the road, there were only four people there! https://www.vulture.com/2020/09/tenet-explained-whats-going-on-in-the-plot-of-this-movie.html Empire described it as "bonkers". I agree. Bonkers in a good way, though! All the acting was brilliant, apart from Michael Caine, who just seemed to be going through the motions. But then - he's Michael Caine ..... Oh, and there were a few good jokes amongst the violence 🤣

I've just received this morning (21 September) 20 bulbs of Gladiolus Byzantinus which were posted on 17 August, second class, with an estimated delivery date of 19 - 20 August. Unfortunately I had forgotten all about them, or I would have contacted the sender ages ago (I have now). They look much as you would expect small bulbs to look which have evidently been languishing in a delivery office for a month in very hot weather, ie sad little long brown sprouts emerging from the bulbs. I doubt they're viable, but who knows. I'm not a happy bunny. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. ETA: They only came from North London, as well.
