I received the following email from Tesco yesterday (though I've only just picked it up). It doesn't address the issue of training, but at least they are following it up: Hi there Sue, Thanks for getting in touch. I am really sorry to hear about what happened during the delivery of your last order. I would also feel really uncomfortable if someone stood so unnecessarily close to me while delivering the shopping. He should have never been putting you in that position. Moving forward I have now gone ahead and fed this back to the Store Management Team to make sure this addressed with the colleague in question, and all the other delivery drivers in the team. This will make sure this doesn't happen again. I hope this helps to allay your concerns for future deliveries. Please have a lovely weekend. Kind regards Alisdair Paton Grocery Customer Service Tesco Customer Engagement Centre

Can hear a great tit singing somewhere near. Can't see it though 😐

I have just looked back through the thread and seen that I asked about where to get fresh turmeric, so profuse apologies, Foxy 🦊 Still don't know why you are so against the Bellenden Road shops though. You specifically mentioned them as being very expensive. And they are not much more of a walk for you than Sainsbury's is! Down CPR and Adys Road and you're nearly there!

I have feeders with mixed seeds and suet balls (also a feeder with niger seeds, but still I get no goldfinches!) I also put crushed up (since a squirrel made off with one) suet balls on the ground, and mixed seeds on the ground, plus sunflower seeds and dried mealworms (but I think a robin eats the mealworms). The sparrows also sometimes seem to eat insects from the roses and climbers, and I think rosehips in late Summer/Autumn, though less so now as my rambling rose on one side have been drastically reduced (see below). Also there is quite a lot of shelter and places for them to perch in my garden, but less so lately due to somebody nearby making all their neighbours (including me) cut back trees, shrubs and climbers :( on the grounds that they were blocking their light (they have a North East facing garden, but don't seem to realise the implications of that ..... ) I also have large saucers and bowls for birds to drink from/bath in :) and I try to keep them topped up (not a problem at the moment, obviously :)) But this particular flock of sparrows seems to be around a lot of the time, I'm not quite sure why. They seem to be mainly very young (though less so now), apart from one older male (who is maybe showing them the ropes?). The little male ones are just getting their black bibs.

All I get lately is sparrows (up to thirty of them at once, which are fun to watch), wood pigeons and lately - for some reason - feral pigeons. Who arrived shortly after my partner commented on the fact that I never got any feral pigeons in my garden. A couple of days later, there were two at the front of my house. A few days after that, they (well, possibly not the same ones :)) ) arrived in my garden. Strange, eh?

Nnobody is telling you what to do, Foxy, but you seem very anti the shops in Bellenden Road for some reason, as you seem to have come onto this thread just to have a go at them out of the blue? ETA: Oh, and Sainsbury's had loads of shops in the fifties. It was a chain then! It started in 1869! Amazing what you can find out by googling! By the fifties, it had even gone self-service in some stores (not the one in Streatham Hill, though). https://www.sainsburyarchive.org.uk/timeline/150 The first self-service store that I remember was Waitrose in Streatham, which opened in 1955 just up from St Leonard's Church. Made a change from shopping with my mum in Home and Colonial, just a little way down the hill on the other side of the church :))

I have a freezer full of home cooked plant-based meals, plus three ring binders of recipes :)) Though I am no longer strictly vegan, as the vegan diet I was on gave me digestive problems :( ETA: Oh and I do occasionally eat fish.

DulwichFox, I am comparing prices :) If you don't want to look at prices per kilo, I gave you a price (above) of ?1.28 per 100g at Real Foods. In any case, many people would buy a kilo and split it with friends. I know lots of people who do that with various "whole foods" online. Your original post seemed to be solely to have a pop at the local traders in Bellenden Road, and by implication the people who shop there. Yet you haven't actually told us what the price of fresh turmeric is at any of the shops in Bellenden Road, for example the shop which has lots of very good quality vegetables outside (assuming it sells it). I have no idea why you posted it on this thread, where turmeric has to the best of my knowledge never been mentioned, fresh or otherwise :)) probably because most people don't eat turmeric as part of a plant-based diet :)) Oh, and obviously anything frozen is "no longer fresh" when defrosted. But frozen peas, for example, are better than fresh peas (unless you have cooked them straight from picking them yourself) because peas, like many vegetables, lose their nutritional value very quickly after they have been picked. According to this: https://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-queries/can-you-freeze-fresh-turmeric-root-and-for-how-long the freezing process preserves most of the turmeric root's nutritive qualities, as you would expect, so I'm not sure what your point is? And just to add, shopping in Bellenden Road is supporting local traders. If you don't like the prices (assuming you actually know what they are) then nobody is forcing you to shop there :)) Shopping in Sainsbury's is supporting a massive chain.

I use both Sainsbury's and Tesco depending on what I need and who has what on offer, plus sometimes Iceland. So what? I now get a lot at once, rather than shopping weekly, because Tesco's delivery charges have rocketed. Not of perishable things obviously. Luckily I have space to store it.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No its not per kilo.... > > FRESH TURMERIC ROOTS 100g > > Price: ?5.81 (?58.10 / kg) & FREE Delivery > > Foxy I have edited my post above. Sainsbury's is ?15 a kilo. Amazon is ?58 a kilo. Here is ?12.75 a kilo: https://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/21503/organic-fresh-turmeric ETA: If you think it is ?8 for 100g in Bellenden Road- which would be ?80 a kilo, which obviously nobody with any sense would pay - how about providing some evidence? ETA: Organic Village sell it. I have bought it there in the past. I can't remember how much it was. And as Malumbu said, there are probably loads of other shops in Peckham and elsewhere around here which sell it, but I'm not going out much at the moment, for obvious reasons.

You can get it online for less than that. For example: https://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/21503/organic-fresh-turmeric ?12.75 a kilo, or ?1.28 per ?100. The Amazon price you quoted is ?58.10 a kilo!!!!

It's appalling, isn't it. And that contractor is presumably going from house to house (as was the Tesco delivery person). What's wrong with these people? And surely Southwark Council must have some rules which its contractors should be adhering to? No wonder the virus is getting out of hand.

You are paying for the unnecessary packaging. BTW people add turmeric to food for health reasons, not because they are on a plant-based diet :)

I'm also in a vulnerable group, but they should be treating everybody the same, regardless, given the seriousness of the present situation, surely? I reluctantly decided to make a complaint, because I think this is quite a serious issue, if Tesco are not training their staff during a pandemic which is getting worse.

I just had a Tesco delivery. I had four or five crates full of stuff which came without bags, so that I had to put it all into my own bags at the door. The crates were too heavy to carry into the house and unpack them there. The delivery person just stood there, next to the crates, practically breathing into my face, without a mask, whilst I did this. Except he didn't do that for very long, because I had to ask him to stand further away once it became clear that he wasn't going to do that of his own accord. I've never had to do that before, and it was a bit embarrassing. Surely Tesco must have rules, and surely they must train their staff? I haven't had the same issue with Sainsbury's - they have stood at the gate and only come closer to take the empty crates away. Has anybody else had this, or was I just unlucky?
