But the Dualit toaster with replaceable parts costs (or did do when I bought a toaster) in the region of ?200!!!! Their "cheaper" (still vastly expensive) models do not have replaceable parts.

This is obviously absolutely awful and I'm so sorry for the dog and her owner. I hope the owner of the attacking dogs can be traced. But ... Why are vets' fees so extraordinarily high?

Where abouts on East Dulwich Road did this happen? Violence won't stop if nobody does anything about it. I don't know how old your son is or who he was playing football with, but were there no adults nearby?

I think Callows are a good locksmith, so what they have recommended is fine by me :) The lock has lasted at least the thirty years I have lived here with no previous attention, and until a day or so ago it was fine. Since the WD-40 it is as smooth as a very smooth thing. Don't think it needs any further lubrication (ooh missus) and Callows didn't suggest I needed to use anything else.
