Who to call to dispose of a dead fox please?
Sue replied to Smiley_blue_1234's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's very useful, thanks. Just hope I never need to use it. Thank you for caring ❤️ Unlike the horrible driver, who must have known they had hit something 🤬 -
Who to call to dispose of a dead fox please?
Sue replied to Smiley_blue_1234's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Try Fox Angels. They respond very quickly locally if you send them a message via their Facebook page. They took a fox I found dying in my garden to a vet. Unfortunately it didn't survive. If they can't help I'm sure they will know who can. -
A lovely night and conversation, and a great venue! Fewer people than expected, though 😥 If you were intending to come but couldn't make it, hope to see you next time! Think we will stick to this venue as it's friendly, comfy and convenient!

Silly question, sorry, but are there speedometers for cyclists? Because if not, how do they know how fast they are going? And how will they (or anyone else) know if they are breaking a new speed limit? And how will they be identified if they are (as presumably they would be fined?)

This is TONIGHT! From 7pm in the lovely new lounge bar upstairs at the EDT/East Dulwich Tavern (the pub at the end of Lordship Lane, on the corner by the roundabout at Goose Green). Please buy a drink at the downstairs bar before you come upstairs, as the bar upstairs won't be open (purely so you won't have to come back down again once you've got upstairs. Well, not immediately, anyway!) The entrance to the lounge bar is now through a door INSIDE the pub, on the right as you come in through the main doors. Turn right at the top of the stairs. We will be in the area by the windows. Please message me on here in good time if you will need help getting up the stairs. I probably won't be checking my phone after 7pm so may not see messages after that, though I'm sure the friendly bar staff would help if needed. Looking forward to meeting old and new faces. (I am face blind, so please don't be offended if I ought to recognise you and don't. I often don't remember names either. I'm just mentioning this as I know I can seem rude otherwise. It's an actual thing. I now have a little card to carry around 🤣 ).

Request for bells on cat collars near Crebor Street
Sue replied to Kritina's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I completely agree. A cat with a bell comes into my garden and sits patiently beneath the bird feeders. Sometimes I hear the bell first and can chase him out before he gets there, and hopefully birds can also hear the bell (but only when he's actually moving). This has got worse since prickly rambling rose stems were removed from fences at the back of the garden. I'm looking at what cat deterrents I can put there. You have probably done this already, but if not you might want to look at ways you can try to stop the cats getting into your garden in the first place? It's very difficult. I love both cats and birds, but as you say, cats will be cats. -
This is tomorrow! Would be great to see forum members there! It's a cosier venue than last time, and hopefully easier to mingle and chat 👍

Whilst I agree, I have been thinking about this recently in relation to some of the other posts on here about anti social behaviour. We are all products of our upbringing - our experiences at home, school and beyond - plus whatever we have inherited genetically which might affect our behaviour (the nature/nurture thing). So in this case, if people haven't been brought up to love and appreciate trees and other wild things, plus as you say they may be deeply unhappy (or have other undiagnosed issues) it's easy to see how they could have ended up doing this. Also, it's possible they had quite low intelligence and didn't really grasp what they were doing and the effect it would have on so many other people. But that's just surmise and possibly completely wrong. From what I've read about it, they seemed to be two mates egging each other on, like two big kids. I'm not for a minute excusing what they did, and it's right they should be punished, but I really hope they might get some sort of rehabilitation in prison (it would be appropriate to have them do some kind of community service like planting saplings, wouldn't it, or working in woodland conservation). And the same goes for phone robbers and shoplifters (rehabilitation, not planting saplings), though for SOME shoplifters there might also be other issues at play, not excluding poverty. Sorry Jasonlondon, I've gone off at a real tangent here, lucky it's in the lounge! Oh oops I've just noticed it isn't. Sorry admin. Oh, and then there's a whole philosophical discussion to be had about free will and determinism ..... 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks! I'll find out in a few weeks when I get the results! It was one of those disconcerting things where a disembodied voice keeps booming at you to breathe in and hold it, then breathe normally. Apart from that it was OK, all completely painless. I imagine there will be quite a few people going from ED, though I presume it covers the whole Southwark area

Yes, the appointments were scheduled for every ten minutes. And there is no waiting area at all this time (sometimes for medical checks there they have a very small area inside with 3 or 4 seats). If you have come by public transport, you have to sit on the steps up to the van if you are early, which isn't pleasant in very hot sun or pouring rain, or else wander round Asda (there's no cafe in Asda, despite it supposedly being a superstore). It's one in, one out. I don't know what happens if you are late, but I doubt they would hold up everybody who came after you in order to fit you in. There was someone immediately before me and someone immediately after me. That's what I did in the end , so thank you for that. I gritted my teeth and got some exercise. It wasn't as bad as I expected 😀 I did get a 37 from Nigel Road back to Goose Green on the return journey, though!
-
There is an NHS van in the Asda car park which is a local centre for lung cancer screenings. I'm an ex smoker (haven't smoked for decades but still at risk). My appointment was at 2pm. Any other sarcastic comments? Do feel free 🙄
-
How will poverty be measured? I couldn't see this anywhere, but I might have missed it.
-
Yes, that was what I was thinking of, thanks!
-
Ah, I remember the Kings Arms I think, though had forgotten the name. Wasn't it some kind of club?
-
Thanks jazzer, jazzer, Jazzer 😀 I don't know either of those pubs, believe it or not, so I will google the Heaton Arms, thank you (and thanks for the tip about the easiest way!) ETA: Well, I googled it and apparently it was demolished in 2005 🤣 but I guess it was somewhere near Heaton Road. ETA again: It looks like I can get a 63 or 363 from the stop near the end of Barry Road, so assuming that's open that would be easier.
-
I need to go to Asda in the Old Kent Road tomorrow. Theoretically I can get a 78 or 363 bus, but it looks as if the bus stop at East Dulwich Road/Peckham Rye may be closed. I don't know why, but I assume it may be due to gas or water works. Does anybody know if it is just this bus stop, or are other bus stops (or the routes) affected? I don't want to get a nasty surprise tomorrow, as I have an appointment, so it's time critical.

A description limited to just " white, 50s, male" would be equally useless in identifying anybody, because it could apply to so many people. What point are you trying to make? And I didn't "jump down the OP's throat." The way the thread has developed is how threads work. Different people have different views on things. And the point about media references to migrants and single mothers was relevant to the discussion.
-
But it's a forum. For discussion. You can't control what other people want to say in response to somebody else's post! Threads go in all sorts of directions.

If you haven't been to the EDT since the refurb, to get upstairs you now come in through the main entrance, turn right and go through the door marked Lounge Bar. Then go to the top of the stairs and turn right. We will be in the area past the top bar (which will be closed, so please get a drink at the bar downstairs before you come up!) As said above, please message me in advance if you need help in getting up stairs, and we can arrange it.
-
How was what I posted in any way childish? I stand by what I said, that the description given could apply to many people and was not helpful in identifying the person. It is not clear why it needed to be posted on here at all.
-
The original post was about one shoplifter. Nobody is suggesting that the shoplifter wasn't totally in the wrong, or that there may be issues with what shop staff and security guards can or can't do in this and similar situations. However a description of a woman which includes only skin colour and perceived age is problematic in my view.
-
That description could apply to many people. Why have you said what her skin colour was but not what she was wearing? What do you think will be achieved by posting this on here? If you think the security man should have stopped her, would it not be more constructive to complain to the Co-op? And what has one shoplifter got to do with "the state of this country"? There have always been thieves.
