  1. Forgive me if I have misunderstood you, but the 47 doesn't seem to be much help as a step in the journey to get to East Dulwich from London Bridge? Also, the 484 doesn't just stop at ED station? It also stops at Goose Green and Oakhurst Grove (the Oakhurst Grove stop is near the bottom end of Crystal Palace Road). If memory serves, the 12 and the 197 also go from Peckham Rye to East Dulwich?
  2. There are safety issues relating to that. For example, what if you were trapped inside a car for some reason eg in a ditch after an accident, and nobody could see the car or knew where you were?
  3. Thanks. I have used the 78 on occasion, but not to get to and from London Bridge. It does indeed take quite a roundabout route. I usually use Google maps set to public transport, but I will try the TfL site as well if stuck, to see if that comes up with different options.
  4. But there are loads of flats next to it, and loads of houses opposite it? What would you call " not many people"?
  5. I was sure I had replied to this, but I must have dreamed it! I googled Victus and Bibo and found a reference to them on this forum from years ago 😮
  6. Places like the MoneySavingExpert website have been advising people to switch to a fixed rate tariff for ages, for this reason. Most of them have closed now. If you are an existing Octopus customer, I think they still have their fixed tariff option open to change to, if you aren't already on it. I took my eye off the ball so I missed what were probably better deals, but I was able to change to the Octopus one at least, as I was already with them.
  7. I just looked this up. The 78 doesn't seem to stop anywhere very near London Bridge? Is my geography all wrong? It's also quite a long walk from Nigel Road to ED, depending on where in ED you live! I have no idea why whoever put this route online seems to think that the stations are at the Nigel Road bus stop and not the Peckham Rye Station bus stop 🤣 Does nobody at TfL (or whoever does these) not actually check them before they put them into the public domain?!
  8. But if there is "something going around", as Azalea says, it could be complete coincidence that a dog became ill with similar symptoms after drinking water from a puddle on the Rye? I know absolutely nothing about things like this, but if there could be an issue with ground water making it toxic to animals, would that not be tested for as a matter of course? I will ask my daughter, who is a hydrogeologist!
  9. Might Cowling & Wilcox have any relevant info which could help your case? I bought an easel there recently. Now I'm very glad we lugged it home on the bus rather than collecting it by car, particularly as the shop took some time packing it up! Hope you get things resolved. It seems an odd place to have a loading bay with those restrictions if there's nowhere immediately adjacent to it to load from?
  10. Has your cat come back or been found? Hoping so x
  11. Sorry, I know you already posted the reasons for the change of the 40 route. My question re what was the financial reason was aimed at ab29, who said that the change was about money. I didn't think they would have an answer, as indeed they didn't. And my reference to "a random Friday afternoon decision" was specifically saying that it couldn't have been that. I probably caused confusion by the question mark!
  12. I'm tempted to say wrap it round a brick and throw it through their window, but that wouldn't be a great idea for various reasons ....
  13. I didn't seriously think it was a random decision - it was obviously based on some kind of data. What was the financial reason that the 40 route was changed?
  14. Surely it would need someone to look through things for years, and I doubt the camera recordings are kept that long? Also, how would you define a "near miss"? In any case, there would be absolutely no point! All somebody needs to do is stand at that crossing during a time of reasonably heavy traffic (or even low traffic) and it will be quite obvious what the problem is, and that it's a risky situation for any pedestrian trying to assess when/if it is safe to cross. For anybody with a buggy or children it must be even worse. Basically if you really want to cross there you just have to cross your fingers and go for it. And in my experience, most cars do not slow down going round that corner.
  15. The genie is out of the bottle now. Just one more sign that the world/humanity is going to hell in a handcart. Not that I'm pessimistic about the future at all 🤣
  16. You want to wait for someone to die? Nice. Obviously data isn't kept on "near misses". If you are crossing from the side where the entrance to the woods is, there is no view of vehicles coming from the Forest Hill direction until they have come at great speed round the corner. For years I have walked up to the bus stop on that side of the road up the hill to get a bus, rather than risk crossing the road at that junction to go to the much nearer bus stop outside the old Harvester. See Insuflo's post above!
  17. Really? I thought they worked on a percentage? But it's a long time since I moved house!
  18. To be fair, I've only ever seen one "incident" on a bus round here, it was years and years ago and it wasn't between the Elephant and ED. I'd much rather travel on a bus late at night than the underground or train. And the changing drivers thing is a pain anywhere! The Elephant will be a mess till all the work in the area is finished, I guess, but even so it's a much more pleasant area to walk around than it used to be.
  19. To be fair (and I know absolutely nothing about what is involved in roadworks etc) they have said exactly what they are doing and within what time period for each stage of the work. I imagine they are doing a load of necessary work in one go rather than have several separate periods of inconvenience and having to keep taking down and putting up signs, barriers etc? That junction is presently a death trap in waiting for pedestrians, so I am delighted there is finally going to be a crossing there, regardless of the inconvenience before it is completed. I'm sure there is somewhere you can complain if you think the total time period is excessive? MP? Councillors? TfL? Mayor?
  20. I'd much rather just sit on one bus from the Elephant to ED, however slow, than get a train to DH and then have to get another bus! But each to their own, obviously! I'm old and lazy these days! Isn't there only one exit now from the Elephant, or have I dreamed it?! I thought that if you come out of the tube station at the Elephant and turn right there is a bus stop very nearby? However not all the buses to ED come down that road.
  21. No. It starts and stops from the TCR end of Charing Cross Road, and has done for years now, unfortunately.
  22. That's a bit bonkers, have I misunderstood? I thought estate agents made more money if the house sold for a higher price? Is that not the case? How can they be working for the buyer if they are supposed to be "employed" by the seller?
  23. Why do you think it is pompous? I thought it was a really nice post. And all true. Paitro's post, not the original article, in case that's not clear!
  24. Beansprout, I think that's quite unfair. I was only trying to help. How was I to know you had your phone checked out last week? I thought I was making a useful suggestion. It's good that you have now eliminated that possibility. What I couldn't understand is, if it is an iD (and hence 3) issue, and the connection all over London is as bad as you are experiencing, then everybody using iD or 3 would be having exactly the same problems. I hadn't seen any publicity, so I just googled. It seems that reception in central London and other densely populated areas is a known problem with 3/iD, so I must just be lucky. Though none of the posts I could find were recent. I hope you have better luck with a different provider.
