  1. Yes it would be easier, and I give a lot to the hospice shops, but for various reasons there are certain things I prefer to give to Oxfam. However I might go through the books and see if some could be donated more locally. I think in any charity shop staffed by volunteers, the reception you get must depend on the member of staff. The Oxfam bookshop have always been very happy when I've taken shedloads of books there in the past. On the other hand, I've taken things to the hospice shop that were received very grumpily when they hadn't even looked in the bag or asked what they were. It felt like I was being a nuisance and causing them more work. I don't remember a previous thread on here about the Oxfam shop and parking, but that's possibly because it wasn't relevant to me at the time.
  2. The other side of P13 drivers being risk averse is that I have been on P13s at night that speeded (?sped?) down Underhill Road so fast I seriously thought they might crash.
  3. It's the P13. The bus from hell. At least it's running somewhere.
  4. I think books are ok. It's the Oxfam book shop I'm taking them to, not the small Oxfam shop opposite, and they have taken loads off me in the past. But I will call and double check, thanks.
  5. Thanks, I'd thought about that, but I'd still have to park, and it's very near a bus stop. Good idea to call the shop and see whether/when there may be less busy times to go, thanks.
  6. Admin, please move if in wrong section. I have a load of books to take to the Oxfam book shop in Herne Hill. It's opposite the Half Moon pub at the bottom of Half Moon Lane. It would be two trolley loads on the bus or walking, and I've already done that once this year! And books are very heavy! Is it possible to park nearby, does anyone know? There are so many restrictions these days, and I don't want to risk a fine.
  7. Definitely no surprises there.
  8. We had a very nice meal there as well recently.
  9. Well, that makes me feel better about my presently chaotic "office" (aka dumping ground for random stuff 😀) I do use it for an office as well though. That's what I'm supposed to be doing now, instead of mindlessly scrolling on my phone 😭
  10. There is a repair workshop which runs every so often near The Old Nun's Head, where things can be fixed for free. Afraid I don't have the details, but I'm sure someone on here will.
  11. The fact that there are blind and poorly sighted people about is why there are bumps on the pavement before some road crossing places. I'm guessing it isn't feasible to put such bumps round every possible obstacle on a pavement, such as litter bins. I'm also guessing that's why people with extremely poor sight have a guide dog or a long white stick - to avoid obstacles on or adjacent to the pavement or path where they are walking. And therefore presumably people with less poor sight are able to see such obstacles, and avoid them. Including a bollard.
  12. The P13 is a bit unreliable, unfortunately. In my experience anyway, on several occasions. And it only (in theory) runs about every 15 minutes, I think. So it's probably a good idea to check on the TFL app for the wait for the next bus. Not that that's always very reliable either 😢
  13. Both ours did. Very loudly! As did the phones of everyone around us! We were in Nunhead. Maybe it depends on the location?
  14. Sorry to be dim, but where has that link come from and why is it relevant to this thread? I'm not doubting you, just wondering if I've missed something above!
  15. There's something odd about the whole thing. Why has it not been in the local press? Or has it?
  16. The police have "refused to take the fingerprints from it"? That's a bit odd, isn't it? Why would they do that?
  17. I just assumed someone was having a party.
  18. So is anything if you drive into or trip over it! You would have to have pretty poor vision to trip over a bollard, I would have thought.
  19. If you read the article posted above, it is all very carefully worded. However I've found this: https://uknip.co.uk/news/uk/uk-news/peckham-rye-park-attack-man-seriously-injured-august-2025/
  20. 😮 Interesting wording by the Met. Do you have a link to that? Are they just being very careful what they say, or are there any grounds to suspect the man wasn't telling the truth? Do you have a link to that other than what's already been posted?
  21. Thank God Doris Stokes is not still alive, then 🤣🤣🤣
  22. There are planes going to more than one London airport. It's been discussed on here before, but I can't remember the exact details. Also if memory serves it depends on the prevailing wind exactly what route the planes take on a particular day, but I may be wrong there. Or maybe they vary the route so the same people don't get the noise each time? I moved here (also North Cross Road area) over thirty years ago and the plane noise has always been bad. I don't think it's got any worse, though it may have done. It has always started around 5am or a bit earlier ( on the days the planes take that route, I suppose?) Concord used to fly over around 5pm each day. That was excellent. It always seemed to be directly over my house, but due to the height of planes I guess many people think they are directly over their house! Triple glazing in my bedroom has helped, but not completely, though it wasn't installed for that reason.
  23. Yes, that was why I deleted my post! Only not in time, it seems! I realised I had mixed up two restaurants!
