I have no idea, but I wonder if they want to avoid copycat incidents. And also, to avoid making the perp feel important, but maybe that's a stretch too far.

Reminds of when I went to see some friends I hadn't seen for a while, in their new house. I said "I can see why you want a new kitchen." They said "This is the new kitchen." Ooooops.

I imagine that we will only hear anything if somebody/some people are arrested/prosecuted. The police are unlikely to tell us much for fear of hindering their investigations, I imagine. There was a case in Oxford last year where a schoolgirl (I think aged fourteen) walking to school was dragged into a car and taken to a house by several men. The girl was later dumped in Oxford (alive but physically hurt and mentally traumatised, obv) and so far as I know the men were never caught. This apparently happened in a busy road during peak hours, yet no witnesses came forward. It's very hard to know how things like this can be prevented. An increased police presence in the area might be something of a deterrent, but that isn't going to happen, is it? Budgets have been cut. And in any case, the people who will do this sort of thing don't seem to be risk averse.

  5. Are they keeping the existing Xoco decor, Fox? Hope not.
  6. Don't think it's illuminated but might be wrong!
  7. What is Dvis? Another school?
  8. I've just passed the establishment in question. Apart from the Xoco sign still there (understandable if they haven't got the new Memsaab one yet) there is still a Xoco menu in the window, and nothing at all to say the place has changed hands, let alone to promote their "grand opening" in just a week's time. Surely at least they could take the old menu out and put some kind of notice in the window?!
  9. Their Facebook page says they are offering 40% off food at their grand opening: As the grand opening getting close by and we are sincerely waiting to serve you great authentic quality Indian food. To do us the honour to serve you please book your table by calling on 07969 994122 to get the 40% off on food But underneath the text they have a picture of their flyer (which I have just received through my door this morning) which says the special offer at their grand opening is 30% off food. So which is it? ETA: Oh, just seen a note on the back of the flyer - thanks Foxy! :)

  11. Well none of those things is going to happen unless Memsaab fails, which let us hope it won't ....
  12. I can assure you that any council would not risk disturbing nesting birds. I worked at a council where contractors did this, and there was an outcry. The situation re the cemetery has been made so sensitive that that there is absolutely no way things will not be done to the letter of the law.
  13. I think people should be called out whether or not that results in exchanges like the above and whether or not it might be a wind-up. To ignore it implies you agree with it. On this kind of relatively small scale that may do little harm. But it leads to not speaking out in the wider world when there are much more important things you see are wrong. And that can do a great deal of harm.
  14. I scanned a load of photos using a printer I had bought partly because it specifically did that. However my son in law told me that the resolution was not high enough and it would be better to have them done by a specialist (which I never got round to). If you are not bothered about that because you just want the memories, then that wouldn't matter, and I have no idea how much it would cost to have them done elsewhere (or even if my son in law was right) but it's something you might want to take into account. And Fox is right, it's a very boring job and dust on the scans is not what you want ...
  15. Which charity was it?
  16. I am not "trying" to do anything, let alone wind anybody up. I don't have that sort of manipulative mind. And I don't give a f*** what you think of my posts, so go and play your tedious games somewhere else.

  19. Ah yes, I see all that.
  20. Louisa, you are trying too hard. You are becoming a parody of a parody .....
  21. Or this one ..... Memsaab, London Rd, Wooburn Green, High Wycombe HP10 0NJ I'd like to see the menu on their Facebook page, rather than pictures. I'm not holding my breath, but I would be extremely delighted if the East Dulwich Memsaab turns out to be a cut above the others on the Lane serving this kind of food ......
  22. All very curious. I clicked on one of the photos on their Facebook page and a restaurant in Dubai came up??? Maybe a Facebook glitch??? https://www.facebook.com/memsaabjlt/ ETA: If you want to be at their grand opening and you want 40% off your great modern quality of Indian food on 23 March/July, get in touch with them quick! At the East Dulwich Facebook page, not the Dubai one, obv. This changeover all seems to have happened rather quickly, to say the least .....

And they say they are opening on 23 July but they look forward to seeing us on Thursday??? And I searched on memsaabeastdulwich as suggested and a memsaheb on Thames came up, Memsaab in Islington and Memsaab in High Wycombe, but nothing in East Dulwich. But if the new restaurant is part of a chain, possibly this is the cause of the confusion. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=memsaab%20indiancuisine
