Google Howdens. Might be enlightening. Was a Guardian (I think) article about them a few years back about their rather variable pricing.

Be Vigilant (found: piece of wood with nails in it)
Sue replied to seenbeen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Surely it's just something dropped from one of the zillions of houses with builders in round here? -
So do I :) ETA: And you would not be far from LL anyway, walk or bus.

Thanks malumbu, I think I will investigate the Shaw Trust place first, it's a very worthy cause.

Thanks. It won't be a model, just a flat mock-up of the top of the lid. Sadly I don't have a big enough piece of cardboard to do it in one piece, so I'm going to have to tape several pieces together :(

Well I haven't actually done the cardboard thing yet, though I've got as far as bringing sufficient bits of cardboard back from my allotment. However I've got an email from John Lewis which says no problem with turning the freezer on its side to move it, they will install it into the exact place it needs to go, and if at the end of the day they can't fit it in they will take it away again and refund my money. So all good. (Though I don't have 100% confidence in John Lewis, having had some issues with them before ..... ). Now I'm going to paint the walls and floor under the stairs before I order the freezer ..... I did try and do the cardboard thing with garden canes cut to size, but as could have been predicted, that was a dismal failure :))

Does anyone know where I can get new or reclaimed scaffolding boards locally which the supplier would cut to size for me? Or else pressure treated timber similar to scaffolding boards, also cut to size? And at a reasonable cost? I've found a place on the Isle of Dogs, but I'd rather somewhere more local. They are for raised beds on my allotment.

East Dulwich pubs ? intolerable music volume

Fitzgeraldo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Meat Liquor ? I?m much too old Ah, come on, I'm ancient and I like it in there, and one of the reasons is they play good music, so - unusually - I don't care if the music is loud! The drinks are expensive though. I wouldn't go in there just for a drink. ETA: When I say "good music", I mean of course, music that I like :)) -

Yeh, I noticed that the other day. Please please please don't bring back the Harvester, it was horrible (in my opinion).

The staff in Franklins are lovely, in my experience, and the drinks are not expensive compared to other places round here. The bar menu is also very reasonably priced. They have a fantastic Welsh Rarebit for about seven pounds. The music is never too loud. KK, we have gone into the Great Exhibition a few times lately and come straight out again because of the noise level. At least in warm weather you can sit outside (and get smoke blown in your face, but that's for another thread ....) -
Recommendation for printer (company not device)

Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quick Print just off Maxted Road - our community > centre has used them for a number of years and > they are always reliable and reasonably priced. We found Quick Print very expensive compared to other options, at least for what we wanted printed (double sided A5 flyers on card). -

Franklins or Palmerston, I reckon, if we are talking SE22. Both nice places to have a drink, too, even if you aren't eating. -

That's weird, because I had to train a whole load of people when the legislation was brought in, both in my own company and their clients' companies. http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1841

Maybe address the issue in question for once? It was you who raised the issue of cruelty in the first place on this thread. A thread which I started. A thread about noise from foxes locally. A "necessity to eat" as you call it need not entail eating dead cruelly treated animals if you are concerned about animal welfare, which from your post earlier on (accusing me of cruelty) it appears you are. Would you like to comment on that, instead of attempting to divert attention from it by calling everybody else hypocrites?

Recommendation for printer (company not device)
Sue replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
Depending on what you want printed and how, I can highly recommend a company called Vital Concept. We get our double sided flyers printed there very cheaply, and they deliver free and very quickly. They are also very helpful. https://www.vitalconceptprint.co.uk/ They have good reviews too. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vital+concept+printing&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=QOTxWYGBJs-g4gSQ-5zQBg#gfe_rd=cr&lrd=0x4876118fa03b99c9:0xb95661c39e0cc092,1,, However I recommended them to someone local once and I'm not sure what happened but the printing she got done was extremely expensive, I think it must have been a different printing method or something, so you would need to double check what exactly you were ordering. There is also a printer in the Old Kent Road I recently found but haven't used yet (for posters), I will try and find the name. -

Oh God, that reminds me of when I wore my Hope Not Hate t-shirt out locally (acquired after I had been leafleting in Dagenham in 2010). I thought I was getting strange looks, and it wasn't till I got home that I realised that although the t-shirt said on the front "Barking & Dagenham Council Elections 2010 Final Score Hope 51 BNP 0" my jacket had obscured most of the words apart from BNP :)) I've been wary of wearing it since then :))

Yes it is illegal to ask your age. I stopped putting anything which could indicate my age on my CV (although of course a long work record is significant if somebody wants to make guesses). Many moons ago I used to train managers of various organisations in non discriminatory recruitment methods, and you would expect large companies to adhere to those (if for no other reason than potential bad publicity), however I suppose you can't expect a small shop to know (or possibly care) that they are breaking the law. Though there may be exemptions for small businesses, I can't remember now. Even apart from legal aspects, they should be looking at relevant skills and experience and matching those to the person spec. Many young people would be crap at the job. Many older people would be excellent. The same applies to other non job related characteristics such as race and gender (except for a very few specific jobs where there may be reasons for wanting people from a particular group, which is legal). What particularly used to bug me was companies specifiying that they wanted graduates (not sour grapes, I am one myself). In the vast majority of cases, having a degree per se bore no possible relevance to the job. Rather, the recruiter made particular assumptions about what qualities all graduates must have (eg quick to learn, maybe) without considering that many people without degrees might also have those qualities. Anyway, I could go on. Oh, I did. Gaynor I would like to know which this shop is. I suppose one consolation might be, would you want to work somewhere where you felt that they thought you were too old for them? I wouldn't. ETA: Very sorry for your loss, btw.

That's promising, and as you say a fast response at least. Let's hope it produces results!
