  1. You can also use Pataks curry paste. Various kinds, and quick and easy. Making an Indian meal from scratch with several different dishes can take a very long time, at least when I do it! Poppadums take a minute in the microwave. Rice, raita, chutney etc all easy. So why eat out? Because it's a nice experience??

KK greenery at this time of year is about the Solstice and the return of light and growth. It's got nothing to do with religious superstition. A bit like Easter eggs. ETA: The Christians hijacked existing festivals and superimposed their own beliefs onto them, so Christmas and Easter were previously celebrating something completely different. Google it :)
  5. Thanks we've sorted it, thanks to Facebook. Someone is kindly lending us one. Phew!!!!!
  6. There are other kinds of Cotoneaster though which have smaller berries? Eg Cotoneaster horizontealis (I think it is) ETA: horizontalis

We quite often have a roast at home, though not usually at lunchtime. But sometimes it's nice to go out and have a walk in the woods or the park and then a meal and a pint and let someone else cook and wash up :) Would be a dull old world if we were all the same, eh Foxy?!

  9. I know, also Amazon, but see above, it's a matter of getting the right one in time for Thursday, but thanks.

  11. I have a new laptop and most annoyingly it doesn't have a port which is compatible with the Ivy House projector. Although it would have been with the Old Nun's Head projector (which I had to buy an adapter for for my old laptop, grrrrr). I need an HDMI to VGA adapter. Maplins say they only have one kind, and it is ?50!!!! I can get one from Amazon but not sure it would be the right one or would come in time. Does anybody by any remote chance have one I could borrow and try out by Thursday at the latest? It's the last time I can try it out before Sunday, which is when I need it for, as the Ivy House is busy after that. Keeping fingers crossed someone can help! ETA: It has to be compatible with Windows 10. I think. I don't understand these things :(
  12. Two identical first posts? Hmmm.
  13. Raw carrots are really hard. I can't see how you could ball them without cooking them a bit first!
  14. Many people think nothing of spending that sort of money on a Christmas tree, which also only lasts a few weeks (unless it's pot grown and has roots) so I can't see the difference really. And then you have to shell out more money on decorating the tree! Go for it and enjoy it, I'd say. It will bring pleasure to passers by too if it is as beautiful as you say :)
  15. I thought that, but I've never seen a Rowan bush (only trees) and their berries are usually orange. I don't think they are poisonous though, in fact I think you can make jelly from them. Will look it up! Here you go: http://britishfood.about.com/od/recipeindex/r/rowanjelly.htm This recipe does describe Rowan berries as red. Has pics at the end too so you don't poison yourself! But many other trees/bushes have red berries. If the berries are very small, Cotoneaster springs to mind.
  16. Do you have a photo? Lots of possibilities!

  18. You don't have to buy into all that (literally!) You can just let it pass you by ..... We had our family pre-Christmas get-together yesterday (only date everybody could make) and it was lovely. Good company and home made food from several different family members. You can have a feel-good time without spending loads of money on crap food and over-advertised gadgets etc.
  19. I make mine with stuff from the woods and my garden. Bits always fall off it, but I just bung them back in again. But having said that, if you can afford to spend ?65 on a wreath, you don't need the money for anything else and you really really love it, why not? If you feel guilty, give another ?65 to a homeless charity or something.

  23. There should be a plate on the side of the bus which identifies the particular bus on that particular route and time. It's usually near the front at the side you get on at. Otherwise, the license plate number (or even just the route number), and the time and place should be sufficient for the company to identify the bus and driver. I have reported bad driving in the past (fearing for my life due to speed) and the bus company were very responsive. I doubt the revenue inspector would have reported it, because how the driver drives is not really his concern, plus presumably he'd be snitching on a colleague, but I may be wrong.
  24. Does anybody on here know lavender27 in real life and could make contact? Lavender a post like that is going to worry a lot of people, if you are able can you post again?
