Literally. The recent use of it literally drives me mad. That.

Turmeric has recently been much recommended for its apparently miraculous healing properties. Maybe that recipe was medicinal :)) So how did the meal turn out, Louisa?

Phew, glad I didn't risk it then, sod's law I would have been clamped. I presume as well as a fine it would have upped my future insurance premiums?

Heads up - door knockers re "energy report"

Ah, junk mail. I'm never sure how that is defined. I deliver the booklets for the Dulwich Festival to some local streets. I take the view that people would probably like to know about it so it isn't junk mail. Same in the past with info about street parties (to houses in the relevant streets, obviously). Am I wrong? -

M&S currently fulfils my tooth rotting requirements, though admittedly you don't get the thrill of choosing extremely expensive chocs one by one and having them put in a pretty little box and tied up with a red ribbon. ETA: But hey! If Hope and Greenwood hadn't gone, we would never have had Maison Dog. Every cloud, etc ...

Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You would probably be breaking the law for that > day as it was on the street. Who is to know you > weren't insured for a day and didn't have your car > off street? I'm assuming there are shared records between insurance companies, police etc and that therefore it could at some time have come to light. I think if a car is uninsured and off the road you have to make an official declaration now to that effect (SORN??) What I wasn't sure about is whether the one day would have affected anything in the future. I did consider just taking the risk but I am too easily stressed and would have worried about it ever after!! Luckily in the end it was sorted in time.

I have also been with First Direct for years. I still use them as my main bank and their "regular saver" is still reasonable though interest rates have come down quite a lot since it was introduced. Very good customer service (though if you phone them the waiting time is a lot longer than it used to be) and easy online banking. Less convenient if you need to pay in cash or cheques as HSBC closed in ED, but you can use the Post Office. I have other current accounts as well now and move money back and forth between them to fulfil their requirements, plus some direct debits go from them. But it's becoming increasingly difficult to get good deals and they keep changing ie getting worse. The Money Saving Expert website is good for impartial advice and making comparisons.

Heads up - door knockers re "energy report"

He wasn't aggressive with me. They went away when it was clear I wasn't interested. -
My car was very nearly uninsured for a day (would have been tomorrow) while changing insurers. Luckily I realised in time to sort it out. If it had been, and had been parked on the road but not driven for that day, could that have had any implications for future insurance, or would I just be thanking my lucky stars that nobody had run into it?

Just had two people call at my door, one with official looking ID round his neck on a ribbon with "staff" all over it. They wanted to know if I had got my copy of "the energy report" or words to that effect. Basically I think they are trying to get people to change their energy supplier, on the doorstep. Take care people. Might be cheapest option for you, but probably isn't. Don't sign anything you can't get out of! I just told them I was happy with my present supplier, who they didn't seem to have heard of, and they went away.

I have seen posts suggesting that many of Louisa's comments are not based on fact, and indeed not based on anything apart from her own prejudices, and that this is getting very tiring.

Because it can't be just me who is tired of reading this tedious crap.

JoeLeg Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I'd be interesting to know if there's any proof > that folk do that? Louisa doesn't have any proof for any of the crap she posts. She just likes, metaphorically speaking, poking a bear with a stick. So she will say that people sit in windows to be seen, rather than to see out. And people queue for cheese to be seen, rather than to buy cheese. And people go to a new place, post their opinions on here (sorry, "bore us all with posts about how amazing their experience is") and then "rarely if ever return." Would you like to provide some evidence for any of these risible statements, Louisa?

Dulwich Fox seems to be living in some alternative parallel universe. We see queues on Saturday of people who can't get to shop in the week because they are working. He sees a hysterical frenzied mob. We see what looks like a great new place opening. He sees somewhere he will never ever venture in (unless it's a new Indian restaurant with the usual familiar food). Maybe try what I do with my grandkids, Foxy, and try one food a day you've never eaten? You might even like some of it. Nothing ventured, and all that :)

Very impressive lightning streaking across the sky. The storm obviously moved, but at one point seemed pretty close judging by the lightning/thunder interval.

True.

Don't you ever feel like trying something or somewhere new? Flans are hardly exotic!

At a wild guess, I'd say most people in East Dulwich are not going to trek over to Nunhead to buy a flan ....

Anyone take any good pictures of the lightning over East Dulwich?

Ha ha Malumbu. As the Half Moon has been mentioned on this thread, just want to say that we went there on Saturday and were very impressed indeed at the quality of the refurb. Didn't eat however so can't comment on the food. I think it's great that the Dog is addressing its current shortcomings. Good on the Dog.
