Just received this from Northern Rock - wasn't expecting them to reply actually! Many thanks for your email. We confirm that the email you have received was not sent from Northern Rock, we will be investigating this issue with the highest priority. I do think it's an interesting possible explanation for some of her inappropriate behaviour - though I wouldn't have thought it would explain the lying?

Funnily enough I've just had one about half an hour ago purporting to be from Northern Rock fraud department but clearly not. What's a bit worrying is that I've only quite recently bought a Northern Rock ISA so I wonder how they knew or whether it's just a coincidence. I've forwarded it to Northern Rock's phishing department (and obviously not clicked on the link in the email :)) ) ETA: OOER, what's really weird is that when I went to delete it, the email from "Northern Rock" had disappeared completely from my system. I know it existed because it is at the bottom of the forwarded email in my "sent" box.

Wouldn't it > be a sad society if we just turned a blind eye. > Thieving is thieving and you need to be dealt with > accordingly. xxxxxxx I think the situation changed when it became apparent that the guy was extremely violent. As I said above, he could have had a knife. As somebody else said, normally shoplifters who are caught do not resist in such a violent way. This was not a normal situation of apprehending a shoplifter. Would you all be saying the same things if Sam had been killed? That the loss of his life was worth it because it showed society's thieves that they could not get away with it? The theft would have been on CCTV. The thief would have been caught and dealt with anyway. That's how society deals with thieves. Intervening to help somebody who is being attacked is a different issue, and I think this thread has sometimes confused Sam's reaction to the thief with the subsequent intervention of bystanders once Sam was being attacked.

If you're really > innocent why lie?? xxxxxx I think - although I haven't studied this case - that that is the one main thing which makes me question her innocence. However I guess, like some of the other stuff, it's not hard proof. And you can't/shouldn't convict without hard proof. But (as with other cases) one such thing in itself might not mean a great deal, but as similar things stack up, you wonder what the odds are of them all happening together if the person concerned is innocent.

Cassius Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Tuesday - blue bin emptied early morning, brown > bin emptied mid afternoon. Must be different teams then. Looks like the non-collection might have been just around the Crystal Palace Road/Ulverscroft Road area. Do you live at the "bottom" end of CPR, Horsebox, ie around North Cross Road?
-
I got through eventually, so I reckon the delay in answering may be due to the number of calls due to missed collections.
-
So, does anybody have any information about how Sam is after his very unpleasant experience?
-
That's interesting as Crystal Palace Road is just round the corner from Ulverscroft Road, sounds like it could have been this whole area. Who else was supposed to have a Tuesday collection? Or is it the whole of East Dulwich?
-
Yes of course it could be, that's what I'm trying to ascertain :) Whatever happened it was obviously a mistake, I'm not suggesting anybody did it deliberately! But if it was due to a lack of communication, that's rather worse - a failure of good PR on the first day of a new scheme, to say the least.

It's that judging even just by posts on this forum (and bear in mind that a lot of people won't read or post on the forum) the problem is wider than that. My brown bin was in full view, and in fact had to be moved so that the recycling in my blue box could be taken out. Which is why I wonder whether it is a different team doing the brown bin recycling. It's possible that it was just Ulverscroft Road which was missed, which was why I also wondered whether the other people who said their food waste hadn't been collected yesterday all lived on that road. I know one does.

redjam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > > In any case, I'm now worrying that my new smaller > brown bin (when it arrives) will be too small - > I've just seen a neighbour's and it does look > smaller than I'd realised. xxxxxxxx There are two sizes of the "small" brown bins - the one which goes into the kitchen and just holds one of the little green bags, and the larger one which goes outside and holds more. They are both a lot smaller than the large brown bin, but unless you have vast quantities of food waste the larger "small" brown bin should be OK :)

tomsav Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No brown bin collection here either. Come on > Southwark, don't stuff it all up in Week One! xxxxxx Has anybody else apart from me reported this to the council? Because when I phoned them just now they said they'd report mine as a "miscollection" and it would be collected within 48 hours :)) When I said it wasn't just mine which hadn't been collected, they more or less said they would only know if people reported it. Then they said maybe it was just my road which had been accidentally missed out. I'm on Ulverscroft Road. Is anybody else whose brown bin hasn't been emptied on a different road to that?
