AOL seems to be bad again today :'( Am at my brother's using his cable connection to get my email :'(
-
Well to be fair, I've been with AOL for years and that's the first time I've had real trouble with their being offline, and I use the internet a lot :) Don't know anything about their quizzes though :) Edit: What do you mean by the lagg ??

Thanks Keith and Snorky but can't do either till the AOL contract runs out .... :'(

AOL was having problems on and off all day yesterday. At one point they had a notice in red on their online help page to that effect (not much help if you couldn't get online to see it!) There was also a recorded message on their phone helpline basically saying "Don't bother waiting twenty five minutes to speak to one of our advisers, they won't be able to help you connect." I hadn't realised it was just in this area though :( Must say, I've always been reasonably happy with AOL in the past, but in the last few months I do seem to have had quite a few problems. Difficulties with my e-address book have been the worst (addresses which I had deleted have been randomly restored by AOL, for example, which is a pain when they are in a big mailing group which is not easy to check). AOL originally said this was due to a server problem which they couldn't say when would be fixed (grammar) and they gave me the great sum of ?5 compensation for the hours I had spent trying to make sure the names in each group were actually correct :-S Now they say I can't edit the group, but have to delete it all and start again. WOT ?!?!?! Anyone know anything about the best way to set up a mass emailing group if AOL can't handle one? It is possible to use another ISP but still keep your AOL email address. Sadly I can't do this as I am locked into a contract (seduced by the free laptop offer - only to find firstly that I had to buy more RAM as the 1gb provided is not really enough if you have Windows Vista, and secondly that the phone provider I also had to move to is far from being, as I was assured, "cheaper than BT"). Oh well, the perils of modern technology, eh :)

Some of the posts on this thread have really opened my eyes. I had no idea about this pubco thing. I've signed the petition. Just hope something can be done about it. :)

Do You Know Anyone Who Has Been Mugged Recently?
Sue replied to gerry's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please don't worry about moving here, it is a very safe area. Anywhere in the world you go there will always be a few people who have had a bad experience. I have never felt unsafe in East Dulwich, and I quite often used to come home very late on public transport by myself. Edited to say: But just like anywhere else, you need to be aware of what's going on around you, and avoid situations/people which you have a bad gut feeling about, eg by crossing the road -
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the last few years, on one evening in the Summer, a load of young people descend on Ulverscroft Road and run down it very fast. Many times. Whilst making a lot of noise. When I politely ask them to go and make the noise somewhere else, they do (eventually!) :)

SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > PS I agree with what Sue just said too (and Sue > was a 1st time attendee at last drinks so might > offer newbie insight) Newbie insight coming up :) (Very sorry admin, please don't lounge this thread because of this excursion away from the main topic .....) Well I was very nervous about going, even though I was with my partner and am not known for enormous shyness (is that a word?), so respect to those who go on their own the first time :) I found it a bit difficult at first because a lot of people were sitting at tables and so it was hard to move around easily and talk to people. However once I did I found everyone very friendly. And a few drinks helped :)) And thanks to those people who came and talked to me - it was much appreciated!! I have awful problems remembering names and faces, so whoever brought the labels that was a good idea for me, though I also can see why some people didn't like them (too much like a workshop your employer has forced you to attend). But hey everyone was wearing someone else's name by the end of the evening anyway !!! Oh and the labels were left behind, and I have them, if whoever brought them is wondering where they are .... :) And - I've lived in East Dulwich on and off for sixteen years, and I live just round the corner from Whateley Road, and I've never been mugged. But anywhere in a big city, you have to be aware of who's around, don't you, and just be streetwise :) -

For some reason info about the forum drinks gets posted in the lounge section rather than the what's on section - I wasn't aware of them for ages either as I never went into the lounge :) which used to be labelled as for threads unrelated to East Dulwich (isn't any more). EDIT - to save you looking, 4 April at the CPT in Crystal Palace Road. Sorry admin but she did ask! -
Fined ?75 for dropping a cigar butt - fair?
Sue replied to seanmlow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hear Hear SeanMac. I am delighted that finally people are actually being fined for dropping litter. Maybe a few hard lessons need to be learned by some so that we can live in a decent environment with clean streets. -

Agree with all you said, Bignumber5. Am tempted to have a rant, but won't. And litter is litter, whether it's a food wrapper or a cigar/cigarette butt, Christian 952, surely people don't need a public information campaign to tell them that. And as I previously posted, cigarette ends are not just litter but potentially dangerous, particularly to small children. :X -
Do You Know Anyone Who Has Been Mugged Recently?
Sue replied to gerry's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why not let's just bring back hanging and flogging while we're at it. And dispense with a trial. In fact let's just hang anybody we think might become a robber in the future. Or hey, let's just hang anyone we don't like the look of, that would make the world a far far better place :)) -

I was referring to a Fall song. Victoria, Victoria, Victori-a, Victori-a Bash bash bash bash etc etc etc Edit: This quoting business is a bit hard to make sense of, innit - it wasn't me who mentioned queens, just in case anyone thinks it was .....

If only the protest had been at Victoria, geddit :)) Sorry :-$

Pity the flocks of starlings in my garden do not disappear to a safer haven, I might have some smaller and less bullying varieties at the feeders :) Those beaks !!!! :)
