  1. Why, of course we can. I often think if only we had a decent supermarket here then we wouldn't be forced to go out in the evenings to eat mediocre Italian meals, would we?
  2. *looks aghast* Who needs a recipe for bubble & squeak? Who? (apart from er, Franklins, eh Sue?) :)) its supposed to be simply leftovers of cabbage and potato, fried. And if not *actual* leftovers, then lots of cabbage and potato, fried. Dearest HonaloochieB, what's all this about thyme? That's a bit bloomin' well fancy, no? *heads to Maria's cafe* (thanks Val) (tu)
  3. Hi Applespider - sorry to be dim but won't it be cheaper to simply replace whatever needs replacing in around 18 months time (chain and tyres as you say above) rather than buying a whole new bike when the Cycle to Work Scheme comes around? Although its nice to get a nice new shiny bike for a good deal I guess. I reluctantly had to buy a new hybrid last year (not having the benefit of that scheme) and I am hoping I don't have to replace it for a while (although I expect mine doesn't get used nearly half as much as it should) :-$ Hi intexasatthemoment - just wanted to say, if you are in ED (and not texas) ;-) then you can't go wrong by popping into BC Bikes here in ED to ask for their advice, which - in my experience - has always been very helpfully given and with no pressure to buy their products. I have got no clue about bmx stuff btw.
  4. Hear, hear!! Love the singing of the birds in the garden, its beautiful. I am also finding it difficult to walk past all the gorgeous gardens in my street without stopping to admire the roses.

Me too. I'd add the persuasive argument for AV to that. In fact, if it wasn't for Loz, I'd be surprised if anyone else could be arsed reading the arguments for it on the AV thread (in MY humble opinion, oh yes). Chris Huhne and the speeding tickets - hilarious. And I look forward to the publication of his former wife's book next year. Do I think they are broken? I'd rather vote Green than Lib Dem.
  6. You could always deactivate yourself from FB for a while. Or just don't look at it. Don't burn your bridges. Given time, you *might* end up wanting an 'EDF-divorce' :-S

  8. Good grief Alan! It's fairly easy to realise that you've likely (accidentally) switched two digits of your phone number. It really is. Here's how: You could have the same telephone number for years (as I have) and still make a muddle of giving your number to others when asked (as I do). I can only imagine even more so if its someone you like and hope will keep in touch. Then you remember that thing you occasionally do where you get the number mixed up, the same two digits every time!! For example, you ended with 235 instead of 253, and you kick yourself for doing it again, especially in this situation. Or it could be, let's say, a new mobile or a work mobile, or you've borrowed your brother's spare mobile till you get your own replaced after you put it through the washing machine by mistake ... and you've not memorised the number yet. So you write it down. Except you've written it down incorrectly! Damn! And when you get back to NY, you wonder why you're not getting any calls so you check the number and hey, you realise your mistake etc etc. Good luck Ben and I hope you find each other. I can imagine the people of East Dulwich listening out for lovely french-speaking ladies so they can point her to your message :)
  9. A sorry state of affairs indeed for a fine establishment such as this. Understanding the various methods of preparation and cooking of potato and cabbage-based dishes is a key skill. Does anywhere offer bubble & squeak as it should be? (6)

    Cry babies

What straferjack said! I'm the opposite of my other half - a complete cry baby! Quids, don't ever change.

Honaloochie, I knew you wouldn't let me down. I'd love to buy you a limeade cooler from M&S. I really would! :)-D

  14. Hi AJM - yes, I did mean the reverse of your statement (eg English in Scotland) as well as the other non-reverse (?!), cannot think of the right word to describe it, (eg Scottish in Scotland) London is very welcoming and it annoys me how much people can moan about it (and the English). You're spot on about selective memories too, I am sure that the Highland clearances were perpetuated by ... Scottish landowners? (no doubt someone will call me up on that if I am mistaken)! Oh and that flipping Alex Salmond makes me (6)
  15. I think I just cross-posted with yours Dully. And yes, it is possible to keep it as a discussion!
  16. I have to say that was my first instinct when I read the OP. Dully - you posted on here to have a discussion about it yet you don't appear to have answered the question that someone else asked If so, what was the response? And out of interest, if you didn't (and as you say, you found what they were selling offensive), why not? I don't think ethnic background comes into it either (eg as to whether you can find them offensive or not) but can see that your previous posts have been shown to be somewhat misleading hence why others doubted the validity of your claim in the OP. Btw, I don't doubt that you did see these items on sale - I have recently returned from somewhere where there were lots of 'vintage-style' shops selling them (not condoning it, just saying that it seems plausible that a fair with similar type crafts and 'vintage-style' items would have them too).

I smiled when I read this. I know quite a few English people now living in the Scottish Highlands and this is exactly what they say happens and they get pretty annoyed about it too! Absolutely agree and I hope that any sort of referendum will prove that the majority of Scots do not favour this. > Many many ex pat Scots of my acquaintance would > probably vote in favour of independence on an > emotional basis, their view of Scotland being > clouded by a misty remembrance of the past - but > they would not return to live in Scotland, > independent or not. So sorry for 'fisking' but I also agree with this, all that expense and for what end exactly? I know so many Scots living in England and vice versa. If the Scottish get to vote on whether to remain in the Union or not, I think the English should get to vote on whether to keep it too - no, in fact, they should get to vote on whether to keep us Scots in! :) My personal opinion - the only good thing to come out of a break up of the Union would be a renegotiation of the Treaty and a chance to get out of the EU.

  20. "Oh look, how exciting, its another A380! No, of course we don't mind aircraft noise here in ED." "No, of course I wouldn't complain about a local business on the local forum in the first instance... I'd be sure to address any issues in real-life beforehand."
  21. Fabulous. Invite him/her along. What could go wrong? You don't mind square plates, I hope.
  22. Ha - Tunnock's tea cakes and their gorgeous red and silver foil wrappers, clustered neatly together in their pleasing yellow box. I could get my former boss to agree to almost anything simply by bribing him with these. I don't think he realised that they are as easily obtainable down here as they are up there.
  23. Jerry, George, Kramer, Lorraine and *Bob*
  24. Argh what an awful question for a Friday afternoon! In short, no its not a good thing at all. Most Scots I know don't want this.
