I think Ed is finding his feet as leader of the Opposition. He has recently been on paternity leave and thats a private time for people. As media is now reporting on a coaltion government - its not all about Cameron, there's the Libdems in the spotlight too, could be a factor in people's perceptions? Cameron can get away without pandering to the traditional right of his party, eg on Europe, in order to 'appease' the coalition and argue the case for strong government. Perhaps that factor brings less difference between policies of Government and the Oppostion to the fore.

Having read most of the thread from start to finish (responded above only on north sea revenue), I fully agree with James B's points on energy efficiency and ????s on nuclear - spot on. There is a need for investment in other renewable technologies too (not wind); I personally support deep-sea drilling also. Loz got it right - the human race needs energy, in a variety of sources.

Unlike the UK, Norway has sensibly invested proceeds from their NS revenue. Their petroleum fund is now huge, mainly due to rising oil prices, so they have nothing to worry about when it comes to providing for state pensions. Apart from the understandable concerns over diversity - and security - of our energy supplies, we need to have greater awareness of our energy use and become more energy efficient (eg better home insulation).

Good King Wenceslas looked out On the feast of Stephen When the adverse weather conditions lay round about Deep and crisp and even Brightly shone the moon that night Though the (adverse) weather conditons were cruel When a poor man came in sight Gath'ring winter fuel "Hither, page, and stand by me If thou know'st it, telling Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?" "Sire, he lives a good league hence Underneath the mountain Right against the forest fence By Saint Agnes' fountain." "Bring me flesh and bring me wine Bring me pine logs hither Thou and I will see him dine When we bear him thither." Page and monarch forth they went Forth they went together Through the cold winds wild lament And the adverse weather (conditions). "Sire, the night is darker now And the wind blows stronger Fails my heart, I know not how, I can go no longer." "Mark my footsteps, my good page Tread thou in them boldly Thou shalt find the winter's rage Freeze thy blood less coldly." In his master's steps he trod Where the adverse (weather) conditions lay dinted Heat was in the very sod Which the Saint had printed Therefore, Christian men, be sure Wealth or rank possessing Ye who now will bless the poor Shall yourselves find blessed. PS I'm singing along ...

When you are feeling a bit low, what does it for you?

... and on a more serious note, if you have any pets (and I don't necessarily mean wabbits), they can provide an amazing source of comfort and are lovely to be around, making you feel more content and at ease with the rest of the world around you. -

When I'm on the 176, I sometimes think how great it would be if I could use arrow keys to direct the bus away from its route and stop outside my front door instead. (thread makes me think of those futurists and theories about the Singularity ... hurts my head trying to imagine the future)

There are a few houses on Uplands and Barry Road with Christmas decorations already up :X (Not ED-specific but the UK's leading pharmacy chain has had a 'Festive' sandwich* on offer since, oh, let's see, sometime around mid-September!) * edited to say, there's more than one. And they don't look the least bit mouldy.

6. My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli. A strong currant pulled him in. ....thus ruling out all possibility of a cereal killer on the loose.
