  1. As an expert in BS, I'm suggesting there are NO other hunters in East Dulwich.
  2. So ... basically we've established there are er, no other hunters in east dulwich (unless we're counting the wellies that you could only get in green or erm, blue, before kate moss wore them to a festival once and now everyone wears in all manner of pretty colours, with fleece linings too)
  3. Narnia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is there any truth in the rumour that the city > workers only have to work late 'cause they spend > so much time during the day being witty etc on > here and have to catch up? What rumour's that then? A lot of people don't work from ' 9 till 5' anymore, so not sure that people 'working late' is necessarily meant to be 'catching up' time. I could be wrong of course... Iceland on LL opens late. Plenty of well-stocked fresh bags of salad, vegetables etc there if you MUST have a supermarket to shop in.
  4. JHC on a bike.

I sometimes work in the city and quite often work late. There are branches of M&S (open late) at London Bridge, Liverpool St...etc, isn't it easy to pick something up from there on the way home when you have run out of food at home? Alternatively, you could provide feedback directly to the Co-Op or Sainsbury's on LL, perhaps they'll better understand what areas to improve upon if so? (unless they are glued to this thread....)

I grew up where hunting was commonplace. I became a very strict veggie as a teenager (not anymore) and I still cannot bring myself to eat game or venison (sick of it). > in some shape or form to cull old or sick animals > or also a means to thin overpopulated habitats. > If hunting is done so that the animal is not made > to suffer I have no problem with that. > If you do not like my point of view I am really > sorry but I dont think I am the only one who feels > this way. > I am holding a Olive branch out to Scribe.....just > make sure you are a good shot. You are entitled to your point of view, wasn't meant to imply otherwise. Edited to add: *I'm outta here*

You may get some sense but unlikely. Right I'm off to the gambling thread (not really)...
  9. Captain Scarlet Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cannot abide hunting........how about we stick a > target on your back and hunt you? I don't like football, cricket or golf so you won't see me bothering with those topics on here. If you want a debate on whether hunting is right or wrong, there's probably one in the drawing room. Scribe - don't bother with those twee Scottish lowland estates for the tourists. Get yourself further up north and to the rugged western highlands if you are really serious.

Anyway, our bedroom was absolutely massive, all walls panelled with ancient wood, and complete with Priest hole. The place oozed history and a sense of past times but oh god, it didn't make for a restful night. Creepy was an understatement.

  14. At extreme ends of the spectrum, yes, they're all rubbish.
  15. I love cooking, I love reading cookery books and I collect them wherever I go. Haven't counted them, they are all like old familiar friends in some way. Although I don't strictly follow recipes and make up my own. Elizabeth David is a lovely food writer esp on Meditteranean and French food. Weirdly, I hated that Simon Hopkinson book that came out a few years ago that 'everyone' was raving about (Roast chicken and other stories. Loada pants.) I agree that there's a load of cr@p cookery programmes too but you cannot diss the wonderful Michel Roux jnr, oh no. PS Mick Mac - this is your best thread yet, thanks ever so much.

Sure, they might guarantee a huge profit that night but are they regulars? I agree with you atticus, I much prefer places that don't reserve seats. that sort of thing really gets on my nerves. Unless of course, karter has invited me to the Palmerston? B)

Its a very good question Mick Mac. I often think of the young scullery maid, worse for the wear after a night down the gin palace*, furtively tiptoeing up the narrow, creaky stairs, trying hard not to awaken the others in the house. With a day of drudgery and servitude to look forward to. Not too dissimilar to me after a night on the lash that ended up in the back bar of a certain kebab house. On a school night. With a day of drudgery and servitude to look forward to. *historical inaccuracies aside.
  18. Were you dreamin' when you wrote this? (Btw, I thought he'd be in the Heinz camp)

  20. Beans 'on' toast is a culinary minefield. 1. Heinz beanz / 'new and improved' Branston beans 2. on the toast / on the side* 3. with / without marmite 4. with / without grated cheese Otherwise don't fuck about with this classic dish. * I know someone who cannot eat it if the beans are even remotely coming into contact with the toast (*rolls eyes*)
  21. Dark brown wallet found today on Hindmans Road, (Patrick Cox logo inside) Please send a personal message if you think it could be yours, otherwise I will take it to the police station. Thanks.

Oops, I am rubbish with numbers, I think its the INR 50 notes that are the same as the blue 500s. (I'll get my pashmina :-$ ) Also, reading KK's post above (tu) makes me think that people who have lived in India for a considerable length of time (and managed it!) will likely have a very different perspective from someone who has visited for a holiday or shorter visits.
