The Big Society - what does it mean?
katie1997 replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hmmmm - 'The Big Society'. Two major u-turns so far (fucking forests - un-fucking-believable) - it strikes me that the present Government are treating being in power like an exercise set by their Eton House Masters and now they are waiting on the adults to come in and sort out the mess. Once their assignments have been marked. -
[pre] [/pre] Childish distractshons you shay, Mish Moneypenny? Are you a vegetarian, Mr Schribe?

Hmmmmm.... plenty of hunting, baiting and all-round mischief making on this thread...oh, and recipes too. *Bob* I reckon the post-nuclear holocaust world timetable is fairly similar to the existing one (except Sundays).

No, as Valentine's Day is a load of old cobblers what with all that forced 'romance'. Although today wasn't all bad, the guy who was browsing for cards (yes, Valentine's ones) in the shop on North Cross Road, at the same time as me this morning, was kinda nice... PS - WTII? :-S Katie :))

I think its all in the timing, depends if its been 'done' for 45 seconds or 45 minutes. I'm being serious too.

[quote name= I even received Next high-heels in a parcel (on credit).] This is the bit that upsets me the most. High heels from ... Next? You'd think they'd have the decency to exhibit better taste in footwear. Even if it is acquired by fraudulent means. PS Good luck, hope you sort it out soon KK.

HAL9000 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As it happens, I've been following the recent > onion crisis in India, which I think provides some > perspective for this thread: India bans onion > exports after eye-watering price rise Absolutely right Hal - the price of onions is a massively contentious subject in India and has been for a long time. Riots and all. I can never forget the advice I got from my manager when I first moved there, 'never underestimate the value of 1 rupee in India'. He was absolutely correct. Of course you can eat cheaply and its not really comparable to a pound over here but I think Alec has helped make us think about the issue. Raising awareness is no bad thing. I'm also reminded of a friend in India explaining to me why there were so many products for sale in such tiny quantities (eg washing powder, tiny bottles of shampoo, baby oil, cotton buds etc). Its apparently very common in economies with very poor people. My friend worked in the micro-finance and charity sector and had a far greater understanding than I of the daily issues people face.

Absolutely! :)) PS It was only a few days ago that I overheard my neighbour talking about what a great bargain he'd got (false teeth btw) on the "big, fat, feckin' East Dulwich Forum" ...

Or at least get rid of annoying 'elen archer for a start. Yeah, I like radio 4 as it is too and somehow started listening to it when I was in my late-twenties (I still listened to cr@p on other stations tho) I think it was about the same time as I stopped reading the Guardian. Result.

There's a very, very, good reason why there's an 'I'm in love with HonaloochieB Donald Zec/Stuntman' thread...... (Anyway, am I on the Naughtie Chair now?)

Yes, sure I get that we all like to shop close to home and we may not want to order take away either; my comment was a response to the claim that we need more supermarkets on LL for this very purpose because there is 'no food and they starve' if they travel back late from the city on occasion. I don't get the relevance about associated avoidable pollution either.
